Ultrafast dynamics of femtosecond laser-induced high spatial frequency periodic structures on silicon surfaces

Femtosecond laser-induced periodic surface structures(LIPSS)have been extensively studied over the past few *** particular,the period and groove width of high-spatial-frequency LIPSS(HSFL)is much smaller than the diffraction limit,making it a useful method for efficient ***,compared with the low-spatial-frequency LIPSS(LSFL),the structure size of the HSFL is smaller,and it is more easily ***,the formation mechanism of HSFL is complex and has always been a research hotspot in this *** this study,regular LSFL with a period of 760 nm was fabricated in advance on a silicon surface with two-beam interference using an 800 nm,50 fs femtosecond *** ultrafast dynamics of HSFL formation on the silicon surface of prefabricated LSFL under single femtosecond laser pulse irradiation were observed and analyzed for the first time using collinear pump-probe imaging *** general,the evolution of the surface structure undergoes five sequential stages:the LSFL begins to split,becomes uniform HSFL,degenerates into an irregular LSFL,undergoes secondary splitting into a weakly uniform HSFL,and evolves into an irregular LSFL or is *** results indicate that the local enhancement of the submerged nanocavity,or the nanoplasma,in the prefabricated LSFL ridge led to the splitting of the LSFL,and the thermodynamic effect drove the homogenization of the splitting LSFL,which evolved into HSFL.

Regular uniform large-area subwavelength nanogratings fabricated by the interference of two femtosecond laser beams via cylindrical lens

Inhomogeneity and low efficiency are two important factors that hinder the wide application of laser-induced periodic surface structures. Two-beam interference is commonly used to fabricate gratings with interference periods. This study reports regular and uniform periodic ripples fabricated efficiently by the interference of two femtosecond laser beams via a cylindrical lens. The interference period is adjusted to be an integer multiple of the wavelength of a surface plasmon polariton. Regular and uniform subwavelength nanogratings(RUSNGs)on a silicon wafer of a diameter of 100 mm are fabricated with a scanning velocity of 6–9 mm/s. Bright and pure colors(including purple, blue, and red) are demonstrated on different patterns covered with RUSNGs.

Extremely regular periodic surface structures in a large area efficiently induced on silicon by temporally shaped femtosecond laser

Femtosecond laser-induced periodic surface structures(LIPSS) have several applications in surface structuring and functionalization. Three major challenges exist in the fabrication of regular and uniform LIPSS: enhancing the periodic energy deposition, reducing the residual heat, and avoiding the deposited debris. Herein, we fabricate an extremely regular low-spatial-frequency LIPSS(LSFL) on a silicon surface by a temporally shaped femtosecond laser. Based on a 4 f configuration zero-dispersion pulse shaping system, a Fourier transform limit(FTL) pulse is shaped into a pulse train with varying intervals in the range of 0.25–16.2 ps using periodic π-phase step modulation. Under the irradiation of the shaped pulse with an interval of 16.2 ps, extremely regular LSFLs are efficiently fabricated on silicon. The scan velocity for fabricating regular LSFL is 2.3 times faster, while the LSFL depth is 2 times deeper, and the diffraction efficiency is 3 times higher than those of LSFL using the FTL *** formation mechanisms of regular LSFL have been studied experimentally and theoretically. The results show that the temporally shaped pulse enhances the excitation of surface plasmon polaritons and the periodic energy deposition while reducing the residual thermal effects and avoiding the deposition of the ejected debris, eventually resulting in regular and deeper LSFL on the silicon surface.

Objective:The present study was designed to study the role of Gas6 in H9C2 cells in the presence of LPS, and the role of Axl/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in regulating TNF-a and apoptosis and their regulators NF-κB and MAPKs pathways. Methods:To identify this, we stimulated H9C2 with LPS(10 ug/ml) to mimic septic cardiac dysfunction in some ways and applied Gas6(100 ng/ml) exogenously. And then evaluated MAPKs and NF-κB activation, TNF-α expression and apoptosis in the presence or absence of TP-0903(15 nM) and Wortmannin(3 nM). The morphological change of H9C2 cells were visualized by phase-contrast microscopy. Cell viability was determined by CCK8 assay and LDH release and the release of TNF-α was determined by ELISA. Cell apoptosis was analysed by flow cytometry and TUNEL assay. Nuclear morphology change was obversed by Hoechst staining and the activity of caspase-3 was determined by biochemical Methods. The expression of Bax and Bcl-2, the phosphorylation and expression of Axl, Akt, IkB-α, p65, JNK, ERK, p38 were determined by western blot. Immunofluorescence analysis was administrated to visualize the translocation of NF-κB p65. Results:A significant finding in this study was that Gas6 suppressed cytotoxicity, LDH and TNF-α release, the expression of pro-apoptotic protein Bax, caspase-3 activity, nuclear shrinkage and apoptotic rate in both viable and non-viable apoptotic cells, whereas increased the expression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. Specially, the phosphorylation and expression of Axl and Akt in H9 C2 cells in LPS+Gas6 group were increased obviously compared with LPS group, among which the phosphorylation and expression of Axl and Akt were both inhibited by TP-0903 and the phosphorylation and expression of Akt were abolished by Wortmannin. Furthermore, TP-0903 and Wortmannin abrogated the inhibitory effects of Gas6 on LPSchallenged H9 C2 with TNF-α release, the expression of pro-apoptotic protein Bax, caspase-3 activity, nuclear shrinkage and apoptotic

Pt nanodendrites with a PtIr alloy surface structure exhibit excellent stability toward acidic hydrogen evolution reaction

The development of effective and stable electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in acidic electrolytes is a significant *** this work,homogeneous Pt nanodendrites(Pt NDs)with a PtIr shell were successfully synthesized by a two-step wet chemical *** open three-dimensional(3D)dendritic structure exhibited exceptional electrocatalytic characteristics,exposing as many active sites as ***,by alloying Ir with Pt on the surface,catalytic activity was greatly enhanced while ensuring extremely high *** surface-enriched platinum nanodendritic catalysts(Pt@PtIr NDs)outperformed the control samples and the commercial *** acidic HER test,Pt@PtIr NDs had a lower overpotential(22 mV)than Pt NDs(26 mV)and commercial Pt/C(31 mV)at 10 mA/cm^(2),and the activity of Pt@PtIr NDs remained consistent even after undergoing a continuous durability test for at least 168 h,which was much superior to the performance of commercial Pt/C(10 h)under identical test *** study revealed that the application of 3D Pt dendritic metal alloys may offer a chance for the development of enhanced electrocatalysts in acidic HER.

Purpose:To evaluate whether and how mitochondrial fission interacts with oxidative stress in PQ-induced apoptosis in mouse alveolar type II(AT-II) cells. Methods:CCK-8 assay was used to assess cell viability. Hoechst 33342 staining was used to observe nuclear fragmentation or apoptotic body. Fluorescence microscope and Western blot were utilized to analyze the mitochondrial fission and fusion. Flow cytometer was used to measure the apoptosis of cells. DEFH-DA was used to detect the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS). Anti-Cyt-c antibody was used to visualize Cyt-c under fluorescence microscope. Mdivi-1 was used as an inhibitor of Drp-1 to suppress mitochondrial fission. Results:1. PQ inhibits cell viability and induces apoptosis as well as Cyt-c release in AT-II cells. 2. PQ induces mitochondrial fission in AT-II cells. *** mitochondrial fission reduces the apoptosis of cells, ROS production and release of Cyt-c after incubated with PQ. 4. Downregulating production of ROS alleviates PQ-induced mitochondrial fragmentation, Drp1 mitochondrial translocation and cell apoptosis. Conclusion:PQ induces oxidative stress and apoptosis through mitochondrial fission, whereas downregulation of ROS generation inhibits Drp-1 mitochondrial translocation, mitochondrial fission as well as cell apoptosis.
