Abnormal liver chemistries as a predictor of COVID-19 severity and clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients

BACkGROUND Abnormal liver chemistries are common findings in patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19).However,the association of these abnormalities with the severity of COVID-19 and clinical outcomes is poorly understood AIM We aimed to assess the prevalence of elevated liver chemistries in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 and compare the serum liver chemistries to predict the severity and in-hospital *** This retrospective,observational study included 3380 patients with COVID-19 who were hospitalized in the Johns Hopkins Health system(Baltimore,MD,United states).Demographic data,clinical characteristics,laboratory findings,treatment measures,and outcome data were *** regression modeling was used to explore variables associated with abnormal liver chemistries on admission with disease severity and prognosis REsULTs A total of 2698(70.4%)had abnormal alanine aminotransferase(ALT)at the time of *** more prevalent abnormal liver chemistries were aspartate aminotransferase(AsT)(44.4%),alkaline phosphatase(ALP)(16.1%),and total bilirubin(T-Bil)(5.9%).Factors associated with liver injury were older age,Asian ethnicity,other race,being overweight,and *** ALT,AsT,T-Bil,and ALP levels were more commonly associated with disease *** adjusted Cox regression analysis revealed that abnormal AsT and T-Bil were associated with the highest mortality risk than other liver injury indicators during *** AsT,T-Bil,and ALP were associated with a need for vasopressor drugs,whereas higher levels of AsT,T-Bil,and a decreased albumin levels were associated with mechanical ventilation CONCLUsION Abnormal liver chemistries are common at the time of hospital admission in COVID-19 patients and can be closely related to the patient’s severity and *** liver chemistries,specifically ALT,AsT,ALP,and T-Bil levels,can be used to stratify risk and predict the need for advanced therapies in t

Automatic palmprint identification has received much attention in security applications and law enforcement. The performance of a palmprint identification system is improved by means of feature extraction and classification. Feature extraction methods such as subspace learning are highly sensitive to the rotation variances, translation and illumination in image identification. Thus, Histogram of Oriented Lines (HOL) has not obtained promising performance for palmprint recognition so far. In this paper, we propose a new descriptor of palmprint named Improved Histogram of Oriented Lines (IHOL), which is an alternative of HOL. Improved HOL is not very sensitive to changes of translation and illumination, and has the robustness against small transformations whereas the small translation and rotations make no change in histogram value adjustment of the proposed work. The experiment results show that based on IHOL, with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) subspace learning can achieve high recognition rates. The proposed method (IHOL-Cosine distance) improves 1.30% on PolyU I database, and similarly (IHOL-Euclidean distance) improves 2.36% on COEP database compared with existing HOL method.

Purpose-Extracting suitable features to represent an image based on its content is a very tedious *** in remote sensing we have high-resolution images with a variety of objects on the Earth’s *** distance metric is used to measure the similarity between query and database *** low distance obtained image is indexed at the top as high relevant information to the ***/methodology/approach-This paper aims to develop an automatic feature extraction system for remote sensing image *** texture features based on Contourlet transform are fused with statistical features extracted from the QuadTree(QT)decomposition are developed as feature set to represent the input *** extracted features will retrieve similar images from the large image datasets using an image-based query through the web-based user ***-The developed retrieval system performance has been analyzed using precision and recall and F1 *** proposed feature vector gives better performance with 0.69 precision for the top 50 relevant retrieved results over other existing multiscale-based feature extraction ***/value-The main contribution of this paper is developing a texture feature vector in a multiscale domain by combining the Haralick texture properties in the Contourlet domain and statistical features using QT *** features required to represent the image is 207 which is very less dimension compare to other texture *** performance shows superior than the other state of art methods.

This article studies a design and implementation of state-feedback control problem for dc-dc Positive Output super Lift Luo (POsLL) converter by considering the line and load disturbances for needing desired power source for various portable electronic equipments like battery charger, hard disk drives, medical device, LED TV etc. The POsLL’s dynamic performance becomes non-linear in nature;the designed controller able to get superior dynamic performance given by load estimation is done by using an observer and by combining the state-feedback control with the load estimator, a controller which is explicitly developed with strong robustness using separation principle. An effectual stability analysis is exemplified to prove that by carefully selecting the state feedback control and observer gain matrix, the output voltage of the dc-dc POsLL converter tracks the desired value irrespective of the uncertainties. Extensive simulation is carried out using MATLAB/simulink model. The result based on time domain analysis is done by using the controllers for various disturbances given to the converter.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and vitamin C on ventral prostatic antioxidant system in adult male rats. Methods: A group of 20 adult male rats were administered ip Aroclor 1254 in corn oil at a dose of 2 mg·kg-1·day-1 for 30 days. Ten control rats were administered only the vehicle. After 30 days the treated rats were divided at random into 2 sub-groups of 10 animals each. One sub-group received vitamin C at a dose of 500 mg·kg-1·day-1 for 10 days. The other group was maintained as Aroclor 1254 control. Twenty-four hours after the last treatment the rats were killed by decapitation. Ventral prostatic homogenate was prepared and used for the estimation of enzymatic antioxidants, including superoxide dismutase (sOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione-s-transferase (GsT) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), lipid peroxidation (LPO) and prostatic acid phosphatase. The serum levels of total T3, total T4, TsH, testosterone and estradiol were also assayed. Results: The body weight and ventral prostatic weight were reduced in PCB treated rats. The activities of sOD, CAT, GsT and acid phosphatase were decreased while the levels of H2O2 and lipid peroxidation were increased in the ventral prostate of PCB treated rats. Administration of vitamin C restored these parameters. serum levels of thyroid hormones, estradiol and testosterone were decreased in PCB treated animals. Administration of vitamin C restored the thyroid hormone levels. Conclusion: PCB induces oxidative stress and decreases the antioxidant enzymes in the ventral prostate of adult male rats; the effects could be reversed by the administration of vitamin C.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between serum electrolyte changes and cisplatin induced ***:We collected data from 18 patients undergoing cisplatin chemotherapy including serum electrolytes,creatinine,blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and urine potassium,sodium and pH levels before and after the cisplatin *** the patients had cancer and were treated with 40-50 mg/day *** injury was assessed by measuring serum electrolytes,creatinine,BUN levels and urine potassium,sodium and pH levels. Results:The five cycles of cisplatin based chemotherapy resulted in hypomagnesia(P=0.029), hypocalcaemia(P=0.001~*),hypophosphatemia(P=0.003*),hypokalemia(P=0.001~*)and increased serum creatinine(P=0.001~*)and BUN(P=0.292~*)*** urine analysis,decrease in potassium(P=0.024~*)was found,except potassium there was no significant changes in sodium and urine pH. Conclusions:The present study demonstrates that,acute nephrotoxicity was observed in patients with different types of cancers undergoing cisplatin based chemotherapy due to electrolyte disturbances,when no corrective measures were initiated.

Objective:To isolate the phytoconstituents from the methanolic extracts of the stem bark of Pongamia glabra and Ficus glomerata,characterize spectroscopically and screen for in vitro immunomodulatory activity on human ***:A flavonoid(PGF)and an alkaloidal compound(PGA)from the extract of *** and a steroidal compound(FGs)and tannin fraction(FGT)from the extract of *** were isolated using column chromatography technique and were subjected for the spectroscopic(FT-IR,1HNMR and LC-Ms)and TLC studies to identify the *** isolated compounds were screened for in vitro immunomodulatory activity on human neutrophils using nitroblue tetrazolium(NBT)dye test,phagocytosis of Candida albicans and neutrophil locomotion and chemotaxis assay at the concentration range of 100,50,25,12.50 and 5.00μg/***:From the spectroscopic and TLC studies data,the isolated compounds were identified as glabrin(PGA),karanjin(PGF),β-sitosterol(FGs),and tannin fraction(FGT).The isolated compounds PGA,PGF,FGs,and FGT exhibited significant(Ps ***:The steroidal compound,*** was found to be more immunopotent than all constituents alkaloid,flavonoid and ***,these constituents could be attributed to the immunomodulatory property of the plants.
