This paper presents the results of the application of a cold spray technique for structuring metallic surfaces with microparticles. The resulting changes in surface properties were characterized to observe their influences on the tribological behavior of the structured surface. The spray technique was applied to a technical component, a 16MnCr5 steel chain pin, designed to be mounted in a linear reciprocating tribometer. TiO2 microparticles were used to structure the surface with a homogeneous distribution of singly dispersed particles, rather than a homogeneous closed coating on the surface. Tribometer tests were performed to directly compare structured and unstructured chain pins, and a significantly reduced sliding friction coefficient was observed for the structured pin. The pins were characterized in detail by surface analysis prior to and after application of the tribological load to set the surface parameters and surface chemistry, even on the microscale. It was confirmed that the particle structuring induced changes in the surface properties, and the durability of the changes after tribological loading was evaluated.

Objective: It is unclear if and to what extent family history of breast/ovarian cancer or BRCA1/2-mutation carriership influences breast cancer treatment strategy. We investigated whether treatment differed between patients from BRCA1/2 families and those unselected for family history. Methods: We included 478 BRCA1/2-related patients referred for genetic testing before or after diagnosis. Two references were used: 13,498 population-based and 6896 hospital-based patients. Surgical treatment and adjuvant chemotherapy use was analyzed using logistic regression models, stratified by tumor size, nodal status, age at and period of diagnosis, and estrogen receptor status (ER). Results: BRCA1/2 cases aged 35 - 52 years at diagnosis and/or with tumors k.ly to have undergone a modified radical mastectomy (Odd Ratios (OR) ranging from 2.8 to 5.1) compared to the references. This effect was most pronounced in patients treated after 1995 (OR 5.7 to 10.3). Compared to the reference groups, chemotherapy was more often administered to BRCA1 and ER-negative BRCA1/2-cases irrespective of age and nodal status (OR 1.9 to 24.3). Conclusion: After 1995 treatment of BRCA1/2-associated patients consisted notably of more mastectomies and adjuvant chemotherapy than their population-based counterparts with the same tumor characteristics. There is a need to be aware of such differences in daily practice and interpretation of survival studies on BRCA1/2 mutation carriers.

Particle layers tend to build up on wails in many filtration and separation processes, calling for periodic removal in order to k.ep the apparatus running. Important factors are the adhesion of the layer on the substrate and the cohesion of the particles in the layer. Models describing such layer detachment generally assume constant and homogeneous conditions for the forces acting on the layer. But in reality detachment is extremely non-stationary concerning place and time, primarily due to changing conditions of the detaching forces on the one hand and changes in the particle layer morphology on the other. This paper describes a model and a simulation based on this model considering such transient k.netic effects, for which some computing results are presented and discussed.

In order to improve the efficiency of reducing fine dust emissions from diffuse sources,the commonly used water mist can be electrostatically ***,the attraction between particles and droplets increases due to electrostatic field *** the experimental investigations carried out,an electrostatic two-fluid nozzle was used to generate a charged spray mist according to the principle of charging by *** a chamber,dispersed dust was precipitated with the spray mist,while detecting the laser light *** means of comparative measurements it could be shown that faster sedimentation and separation tak.s place through electrostatic *** variations regarding the use of compressed air and water were investigated and the sedimentation time of the particle-droplet mixture in the chamber was shown.A size distribution was then calculated from the laser light attenuation,which shows that the proportion of small particles decreases with spray ***,the influence of the polarity of droplets and solid particles on the reduction measure was determined.

The magnetohydrodynamic （MHD） flow and mass transfer of an electrically conducting upper convected Maxwell （UCM） fluid at a porous surface are studied in the presence of a chemically reactive species. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations along with the appropriate boundary conditions are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations and numerically solved by the k.ller-box method. The effects of various physical parameters on the flow and mass transfer characteristics are graphically presented and discussed. It is observed that the order of the chemical reaction is to increase the thick.ess of the diffusion boundary layer. Also, the mass transfer rate strongly depends on the schmidt number and the reaction rate parameter. Furthermore, available results in the literature are obtained as a special case.

Graphene oxide shows great promise as a material for biomedical applications, e.g., as a multi-drug delivery platform. With this in view, reports of studies on the interaction between nanosized graphene oxide flak.s and biological cells are beginning to emerge. However, the number of studies remains limited, and most used labeled graphene oxide samples to track.the material upon endocytosis. Unfortunately, the labeling process alters the surface functionality of the graphene oxide, and this additional funcfionalization has been shown to alter the cellular response. Hence, in this work.we used label-free graphene oxide. We carefully track.d the uptak. of three different nanoscale graphene oxide flak. size distributions using scanning/transmission electron microscopy. Uptak. was investigated in undifferentiated human monocyte cells （THP-1） and differentiated macrophage cells. The data show clear size dependence for uptak., such that larger graphene oxide flak.s （and clusters） are more easily tak.n up by the cells compared to smaller flak.s. Moreover, uptak. is shown to occur very rapidly, within two min of incubation with THP-1 cells. The data highlights a crucial need for cellular incubation studies with nanoparticles, to be conducted for short incubation periods as certain dependencies （e.g., size and concentration） are lost with longer incubation periods.

Position, velocity, and timing（PVT） signals from the Global Positioning System（GPS）are used throughout the world but the availability and reliability of these signals in all environments has become a subject of concern for both civilian and military applications. This presentation summarizes recent advances in navigation sensor technology, including GPS, inertial, and other navigation aids that address these concerns. Also addressed are developments in sensor integration technology with several examples described, including the Bluefin-21 system mechanization.
