Use of three-dimensional printing in preoperative planning in orthopaedic trauma surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis

A general model of a hybrid inteffacial domain wall （HIDW） in ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic exchange biased bilayers is proposed, where an inteffacial domain wall is allowed to extend into either the ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic layer or across both. The proposition is based on our theoretical investigation on thick.ess and field dependences of ferromagnetic domain wall （FmDW） and antiferromagnetic domain wall （AFDW）, respectively. Good match of the simulation to the hysteresis loops of a series of NiFe/Femn exchange-biased bilayers confirms the existence of the HIDW, where the AFDW part is found to preferentially occupy the entire antiferromagnetic layer while the FmDW shrink. with the increased magnetic field as expected. The observed asymmetry between the ascending and descending branches of the hysteresis loop is explained naturally as a consequence of different partition ratios between AFDW and FmDW.

Depth determination of the moho interface beneath the Tibetan plateau and other areas of China

We apply the adaptive moving window method of Sun et al. to the most recent catalog data and the data recorded by portable stations to construct the velocity structure of the crust and upper mantle, and to determine the depth of the moho interface beneath the Tibetan plateau and other areas of China. We first select 2 600 locations in the study region with 1° intervals, then at each location invert for a five-layer 1-D P-wave velocity model from the surface down to the uppermost mantle by performing a monte Carlo random search. The moho depth at each location is then determined, and the moho interface beneath the study region is obtained through proper interpolation with certain smoothing. Compared to depths obtained by previous studies, our results show more accurate moho depths in the Tibetan plateau, Tianshan region and other areas of the study region.

Transepithelial leak.in Barrett's esophagus patients: The role of proton pump inhibitors

AIm: To determine if the observed paracellular sucrose leak.in Barrett's esophagus patients is due to their proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use. mETHODS: The in vivo sucrose permeability test was administered to healthy controls, to Barrett's patients and to non-Barrett's patients on continuous PPI therapy. Degree of leak.was tested for correlation with presence of Barrett's, use of PPIs, and length of Barrett's segment and duration of PPI use. RESULTS: Barrett's patients manifested a near 3-fold greater, upper gastrointestinal sucrose leak.than healthy controls. A decrease of sucrose leak.was observed in Barrett's patients who ceased PPI use for 7 *** initial introduction of PPI use (in a PPI-na ve population) results in dramatic increase in sucrose leak. long-term, continuous PPI use manifested a slow spontaneous decline in leak. The sucrose leak.observed in Barrett's patients showed no correlation to the amount of Barrett's tissue present in the esophagus. CONCLUSION: Although future research is needed to determine the degree of paracellular leak.in actual Barrett's mucosa, the relatively high degree of leak.observed with in vivo sucrose permeability measurement of Barrett's patients reflects their PPI use and not their Barrett's tissue per se .

Seasonal exports of phosphorus from intensively fertilised nested grassland catchments

We carried out a one year （2002） study of phosphorus （P） loss from soil to water in three nested grassland catchments with k.own P input in chemical fertilizer and animal liquid slurry applications. Chemical fertilizer was applied to the grasslands between march and September and animal slurry was applied over the twelve months. The annual chemical P fertilizer applications for the 17 and 211 ha catchments were 16.4 and 23.7 k. P/ha respectively and the annual slurry applications were 10.7 and 14.0 k. P/ha, respectively. The annual total phosphorus （TP） export in stream-flow was 2.61, 2.48 and 1.61 k. P/ha for the 17, 211 and 1524 ha catchments, respectively, compared with a maximum permissible （by regulation） annual export of ca. 0.35 k. P/ha. The export rate （ratio of P export to P in land applications） was 9.6% and 6.6% from the 17 and 211 ha catchments, respectively. On average, 70% of stream flow and 85% of the P export occurred during the five wet months （October to February） indicating that when precipitation is much greater than evaporation, the hydrological conditions are most favourable for P export. However the soil quality and land use history may vary the results. Particulate P made up 22%, 43% and 37% of the TP export at the 17, 211 and 1524 ha catchment areas, respectively. As the chemical fertilizer was spread during the grass growth months （march to September）, it has less immediate impact on stream water quality than the slurry applications. We also show that as the catchment scale increases, the P concentrations and P export decrease, confirming dilution due to increasing rural catchment size. In the longer term, the excess P from fertilizer maintains high soil P levels, an antecedent condition favourable to P loss from soil to water. This study confirms the significant negative water quality impact of excess P applications, particularly liquid animal slurry applications in wet winter months.
