Characterization of particulate matter from diesel passenger cars tested on chassis dynamometers

Emission characterization of particle number as well as particle mass from three diesel passenger cars equipped with diesel particulate filter（DPF）, diesel oxidation catalyst（DOC）and exhaust gas recirculation（EGR） under the vehicle driving cycles and regulatory *** particle number emissions（PNEs） decreased gradually during speed-up of vehicle from 17.3 to 97.3 km/hr. As the average vehicle speed increases, the size-segregated peak of particle number concentration shifts to smaller size ranges of particles. The correlation analysis with various particulate components such as particle number concentration（PNC）,ultrafine particle number concentration（UFPNC） and particulate matter（PM） mass was conducted to compare gaseous compounds（CO, CO2, HC and NOx）. The UFPNC and PM were not only emitted highly in Seoul during severe traffic jam conditions, but also have good correlation with hydrocarbons and NOxinfluencing high potential on secondary aerosol generation. The effect of the dilution temperature on total PNC under the New European Driving Cycle（NEDC）, was slightly higher than the dilution ratio. In addition, the nuclei mode（DP： ≤ 13 nm） was confirmed to be more sensitive to the dilution temperature rather than other particle size ranges. Comparison with particle composition between vehicle speed cycles and regulatory cycle showed that sulfate was slightly increased at regulatory cycle, while other components were relatively similar. During cold start test, semivolatile nucleation particles were increased due to effect of cold environment. Research on particle formation dependent on dilution conditions of diesel passenger cars under the NEDC is important to verify impact on vehicular traffic and secondary aerosol formation in Seoul.

FEA technique of hot plate forming process using cell-typed die with cooling device

Hot plate forming using a cell-typed die is a process for forming a large thick plate with a spherical shape for the manufacture of a large spherical LNG ***-typed upper and lower dies made of a framework of steel plates fitted to make a grid pattern are used in this process,and an air-cooling device is separately installed inside the lower die.A finite element analysis (FEA) technique was developed,which included hot forming,air flow,cooling and thermal deformation analysis for the hot plate forming process using the cell-typed ***,the convective and interface heat transfer coefficients were used to reproduce analytically the effects of the cooling device in the hot plate forming analysis.A small-scale model test of the process was conducted to verify the FEA *** analysis results show that the curvature of the final plate agrees well with that of the designed experiment within a maximum relative error of 0.03% at the corner of the plate.

Anti-obesity Effects of Ginsenosides in High-Fat Diet-Fed Rats

Objective: To examine the anti-obesity effects of ginsenosides in Korea Red Ginseng(KRG, Panax ginseng) in rats fed with a high-fat diet(HFD). Methods: Twenty-five 4-week-old obesity rats after receiving an HFD for 5 weeks;subsequently, they were additionally treated with ginsenosides Rb1, Rd, Rg1, or Re(10 mg/kg, intraperitoneal injection) for a further 3 weeks(n=5 in each group). The control rats were fed a normal diet. The food consumption, body weight, locomotor activity, serum lipids, adipose tissues, nitric oxide(NO) expression, leptin, neuropeptide Y(NPY), cholecystokinin(CCK) in the brains were measured. Results: In the HFD-fed rats, body weight, body fat mass, serum levels of leptin and NO were significantly higher than in the control rats(P<0.05 or P<0.01). However, the treatment of Rd, Re, and Rb1 markedly decreased body fat mass and body weight(P<0.05). The serum level of leptin and NO in ginsenoside-treated rats were markedly lower than the control group(P<0.01). The expression of NPY and CCK in the hypothalamic nuclei showed insignificant difference among groups. However, the expression of NPY immunoreactive neurons in the hypothalamus was significantly reduced in the Rb1-treated group(P<0.05). Conclusion: PD-type ginsenoside Rb1 from the crude saponins of KRG may be a useful compound for the treatment of obesity and related disorders through the modulation of peripheral and central appetite-regulating signals.

Texture development and grain boundary phase formation in Ce-and Ce-La-substituted Nd-Fe-B magnets during hot-deformation process

In this study,the influence of Ce-and Ce-La-substitution for Nd in Nd-Fe-B magnets on their magnetic and microstructural changes in the course of the hot-deformation process was investigated to gain insight into further reducing the Nd content in fine-grained Nd-Fe-B hot-deformed *** found that the[001]texture and microstructure of the RE-rich grain boundary phases,which are the factors that de-termine the remanence and coercivity of hot-deformed magnets,were deteriorated by the Ce-and *** is because the volume fraction of the RE-rich liquid formed in the grain boundaries during the hot-press and hot-deformation decreased due to the Ce-and Ce-La-substitution,thereby in-creasing the friction between the 2:14:1 grains while the c-axes of grains were aligned by grain rotation and decreasing the RE concentration of grain boundary *** particular,the Ce-La-co-substitution further prevented the liquid formation within the grain boundaries of the magnets during hot-press and hot-deformation because the wettability of the RE-rich liquid on the 2:14:1 grains became poor when La was substituted for Nd in the 2:14:1 *** results indicate that there is room for further im-provement in both the remanence and coercivity of the Ce-and Ce-La-substituted magnets by intro-ducing additional liquid into the grain boundaries prior to hot-press and *** applying the Nd-Cu infiltration process to the melt-spun ribbons(intermediate infiltration,I-infiltration),both the remanence and coercivity of the Nd-saving(Nd 0.7 Ce 0.3)-Fe-B and(Nd 0.7 Ce 0.225 La 0.075)-Fe-B hot-deformed magnets were successfully improved.

Uncertainty analysis of flow rate measurement for multiphase flow using CFD

The venturi meter has an advantage in its use,because it can measure flow without being much affected by the type of the measured fluid or flow ***,it has excellent versatility and is being widely applied in many *** flow of a liquid containing air is a representative example of a multiphase flow and exhibits complex flow *** particular,the greater the gas volume fraction（GVF）,the more inhomogeneous the flow *** a result,using a venturi meter to measure the rate of a flow that has a high GVF generates an *** this study,the cause of the error occurred in measuring the flow rate for the multiphase flow when using the venturi meter for analysis by *** ensure the reliability of this study,the accuracy of the multiphase flow models for numerical analysis was verified through comparison between the calculated results of numerical analysis and the experimental *** a result,the Grace model,which is a multiphase flow model established by an experiment with water and air,was confirmed to have the highest ***,the characteristics of the internal flow Held about the multiphase flow analysis result generated by applying the Grace model were analyzed to find the cause of the uncertainty occurring when measuring the flow rate of the multiphase flow using the venturi meter.A phase separation phenomenon occurred due to a density difference of water and air inside the venturi,and flow inhomogeneity happened according to the flow velocity difference of each *** was confirmed that this flow inhomogeneity increased as the GVF increased due to the uncertainty of the flow measurement.

Chikungunya fever is a vector-borne viral disease transmitted to humans by chikungunya virus(CHIKV)-infected *** have been many outbreaks of CHIKV infection worldwide,and the virus poses ongoing risks to global *** prevent and control CHIKV infection,it is important to improve the current CHIKV diagnostic approaches to allow for the detection of low CHIKV concentrations and to correctly distinguish CHIKV infections from those due to other mosquito-transmitted viruses,including dengue virus(DENV),Japanese encephalitis virus(JEV),and Zika virus(ZIKV).Here,we produced monoclonal antibodies(mAbs)against the CHIKV envelope 2 protein(CHIKV-E2)and compared their sensitivity and specificity with commercially available mAbs using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA).Two anti-CHIKV-E2 mAbs,19-1 and 21-1,showed higher binding affinities to CHIKV-E2 protein than the commercial mAbs *** particular,the 19-1 mAb had the strongest binding affinity to inactivated ***,the 19-1 mAb had very little cross-reactivity with other mosquito-borne viruses,such as ZIKV,JEV,and *** results suggest that the newly produced anti-CHIKV-E2 mAb,19-1,could he used for CHIKV diagnostic approaches.

In a recent issue of Nature Immunology,Kennedy et *** that CTLA-4(CD152)differentially targets two distinct ligands,CD80 and CD86,on antigen-presenting cells(APCs)for destruction or recycling following transendocytosis(TE),resulting in separate fates for CTLA-4 on T_(reg) cells and thereby regulating ***,whereas CTLA-4 tightly binds CD80 for TE and causes ubiquitination and trafficking to late endosomes and lysosomes for degradation,CTLA-4 weakly binds CD86 for TE,resulting in dissociation under acidic conditions(pH<6)and recycling of CTLA-4 to the plasma membrane for further CD86 ***,CD86 targeting by CTLA-4 regulates T-cell function in autoimmunity[1]and presumably immune surveillance of cancer cells(Fig.1).

Confucian Ethical Practice as a Method of Creating and Sustaining Whiteheadian Beauty

I argue that Confucian ethical practice can be considered as a feasible method of creating and sustaining Whiteheadian beauty. I first investigate Whitehead＇s understanding of value, beauty and morality. Next, I show the affinity between Confucius and Whitehead in their understanding of value, beauty, and morality through an analysis of the Analects （Lunyu 论语）, focusing on the aesthetic aspects of Confucian ethics understood as role ethics. Finally, I argue that Confucian ways of moral self-cultivation can be viewed as methods that foster our disposition to create and sustain the beauty of experience.

Hwangryunhaedok-tang induces the depolarization of pacemaker potentials through 5-HT3 and 5-HT4 receptors in cultured murine small intestine interstitial cells of Cajal

AIM To investigate the effects of a water extract of Hwangryunhaedok-tang(HHTE) on the pacemaker potentials of mouse interstitial cells of Cajal(ICCs).METHODS We dissociated ICCs from small intestines and cultured. ICCs were immunologically identified using an antic-kit antibody. We used the whole-cell patch-clamp configuration to record the pacemaker potentials generated by cultured ICCs under the current clamp mode(I = 0). All experiments were performed at 30 ℃-32 ℃RESULTS HHTE dose-dependently depolarized ICC pacemaker potentials. Pretreatment with a 5-HT_3 receptor anta-gonist(Y25130) or a 5-HT_4 receptor antagonist(RS39604) blocked HHTE-induced pacemaker potential depolarizations, whereas pretreatment with a 5-HT7 receptor antagonist(SB269970) did not. Intracellular GDPβS inhibited HHTE-induced pacemaker potential depolarization and pretreatment with a Ca^(2+)-free solution or thapsigargin abolished the pacemaker potentials. In the presence of a Ca^(2+)-free solution or thapsigargin, HHTE did not depolarize ICC pacemaker potentials. In addition, HHTE-induced pacemaker potential depolarization was unaffected by a PKC inhibitor(calphostin C) or a Rho kinase inhibitor(Y27632). Of the four ingredients of HHT, Coptidis Rhizoma and Gardeniae Fructus more effectively inhibited pacemaker potential *** These results suggest that HHTE dose-dependently depolarizes ICC pacemaker potentials through 5-HT_3 and 5-HT_4 receptors via external and internal Ca^(2+) regulation and via G protein-, PKC-and Rho kinase-independent pathways.
