Due to its additional frequency response,dual-frequency ultrasound has advantages over conventional ultrasound,which operates at a specific frequency band.Moreover,a tunable frequency from a single transducer enables sonographers to achieve ultrasound images with a large detection area and high resolution.This facilitates the availability of more advanced techniques that simultaneously require low-and high-frequency ultrasounds,such as harmonic imaging and image-guided therapy.In this study,we present a novel method for dual-frequency ultrasound generation from a ferroelectric piezoelectric micromachined ultrasound transducer(PMUT).Uniformly designed transducer arrays can be used for both deep low-resolution imaging and shallow high-resolution imaging.To switch the ultrasound frequency,the only requirement is to tune a DC bias to control the polarization state of the ferroelectric film.Flextensional vibration of the PMUT membrane strongly depends on the polarization state,producing low-and high-frequency ultrasounds from a single excitation frequency.This strategy for dual-frequency ultrasounds meets the requirement for either multielectrode configurations or heterodesigned elements,which are integrated into an array.Consequently,this technique significantly reduces the design complexity of transducer arrays and their associated driving circuits.

To the Editor:Idiopathic cough is associated with laryngeal hypersensitivity and chronic pain syndromes.Idiopathic cough can be diagnosed when patients have no cause of chronic cough after treatment of cough.Patients with chronic cough experience impaired quality of life(QOL),interruption of daily activity,and depression.Therefore,better approaches to refractory chronic cough areneeded.

Extrapleural solitary fibrous tumor of the thyroid gland: A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumor(SFT)is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm that arises from the pleura.A few SFTs have also been described in extrapleural sites.however,SFT of the thyroid gland is rare.Here,we report a case of extrapleural SFT on the thyroid gland,in addition to a literature review.CASE SUMMARY A 59-year-old man visited our hospital in July 2017 complaining of a large mass in his neck.His thyroid function test results,including antibody levels,were within the normal limits.Ultrasonography showed a 4.7 cm×4.0 cm×3.2 cm solitary mass of intermediate suspicion in the left thyroid lobe.A fine-needle aspiration biopsy was subsequently performed.The pathologist reported a benign follicular lesion.however,the size of this nodule increased to 5.5 cm×5.0 cm×3.4 cm by April 2018.After a multidisciplinary discussion,a left lobectomy was performed in May 2018.The specimen showed a well-demarcated,partly encapsulated,soft nodule of whitish and tan/brown color on the cut surface.Light microscopy revealed high cellularity with moderate cytologic atypia.The mitotic count was 5/10 high-power fields.There was no tumor necrosis or lymphovascular invasion.The tumor was CD34-positive and signal transducer and activator of transcription 6-positive.Neither thyroid transcription factor-1 nor cytokeratin expression was detected.The Ki-67 showed intermediate proliferative activity.The final diagnosis was extrapleural SFT of the thyroid gland with a clear resection margin.The patient was discharged without complication three days after the surgery.CONCLUSION In the literature,extrapleural SFT of the thyroid gland has been reported to behave indolently with the capacity for recurrence and rare metastasis,although surgical resection is the treatment of choice.Understanding this disease entity is important for accurate diagnosis and proper management.

Impact loads generated by tandem cavitation bubble on solid wall

Experiments on two cavitation bubbles,which are generated at the same instant,with three different sizes near solid wall are conducted and their impulses on the boundary are registered by polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)sensor.Due to being near the boundary,bubble interactions and deformed features are in contrast with those in infinite fluid medium.In this paper,five morphologies of bubble deformation during growth and collapse phases are observed by high-speed camera.These profiles are strongly influenced by inter-bubble distance(η),stand-off distance from boundary(γ),and bubble size differences.Analysis of photographs coupled with sensor measurements enabled qualitative investigation of two bubble interactions on the boundary.From sensor data acquisition,it is confirmed that lower bigger bubble with upper smaller bubble configuration produces highest impulses on the boundary compared with other vertical arrangements of the tandem cavitation bubble employed in this study.

Increased incidence of indeterminate pancreatic cysts and changes of management pattern: Evidence from nationwide data

Background:Pancreatic cysts are common.however,most studies are based on data collected from individual centers.The present study aimed to evaluate the changes of management patterns for pancreatic cystic lesions(PCLs)by analyzing large epidemiologic data.Methods:Between January 2007 and December 2018,information regarding pancreatic cystic lesions was acquired from the nationwide Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database in Korea.Results:The final number of patients with pancreatic cysts was 165277 among the total claims for reimbursement of 855983 associated with PCLs over 12 years.The total number of claims were increased from 19453 in 2007 to 155842 in 2018 and the prevalence increased from 0.04%to 0.23%.For 12 years,2874(1.7%)had pancreatic cancer and 8212(5.0%)underwent surgery,and 36 had surgery for twice(total 8248 pancreatectomy).After ruling out claims from the first 3 years of washout period,the incidence increased from 9891 to 24651 and the crude incidence rate of PCLs expanded from 19.96 per 100000 to 47.77 per 100000.Compared to specific neoplasm codes(D136 or D377),the use of pancreatic cyst code(K862)has been remarkably increased and the most common since 2010.The annual number of pancreatectomies increased from 518 to 861 between 2007 and 2012,and decreased to 596 until 2018.The percentage of pancreatic cancer in patients who received pancreatectomy increased from 5.6%in 2007 to 11.7%in 2018.Conclusions:The incidence of PCLs is rapidly increasing.Among PCLs,indeterminate cyst is increasing outstandingly.A trend of decreasing in the number of resections and increasing cancer rates among resected cysts may be attributed to the updated international guidelines.

Social Edge Service(SES)is an emerging mechanism in the Social Internet of Things(SIoT)orchestration for effective user-centric reliable communication and computation.The services are affected by active and/or passive attacks such as replay attacks,message tampering because of sharing the same spectrum,as well as inadequate trust measurement methods among intelligent devices(roadside units,mobile edge devices,servers)during computing and content-sharing.These issues lead to computation and communication overhead of servers and computation nodes.To address this issue,we propose the HybridgrAph-Deep-learning(HAD)approach in two stages for secure communication and computation.First,the Adaptive Trust Weight(ATW)model with relation-based feedback fusion analysis to estimate the fitness-priority of every node based on directed graph theory to detect malicious nodes and reduce computation and communication overhead.Second,a Quotient User-centric Coeval-Learning(QUCL)mechanism to formulate secure channel selection,and Nash equilibrium method for optimizing the communication to share data over edge devices.The simulation results confirm that our proposed approach has achieved effective communication and computation performance,and enhanced Social Edge Services(SES)reliability than state-of-the-art approaches.

Inhibitory Effect of the Extract of Phellodendron amurense Ruprecht Root on Collagen-Induced Arthritis in Mice

Objective： To investigate whether the dried root of Phellodendron amurense Ruprecht（Phellodendri cortex; PC） extract improves arthritic symptoms through anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory effects in collagen-induced arthritis in mice. Methods： Rheumatoid arthritis（RA） was induced in male DBA/1 mice by immunization with type Ⅱ collagen（ColⅡ）. CIA mice were divided into 5 groups（n=10 per a group） with normal, CIA control, PC extract（50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg）-treated, and meloxicam（50 mg/kg）-treated as the reference drug. The PC extract or meloxicam were administered orally in CIA mice once a day for 14 days after arthritis induction. Arthritic score, levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a antibody, prostaglandin E2（PGE2）, tumor necrosis factor（TNF）-α, and interleukin（IL）-17 in the sera of CIA mice were measured. Histopathological changes in the ankle joints of CIA mice were also analyzed by staining with hematoxylin and eosin（H and E）, safranin-O and immunohistochemistry using anti-TNF-α and anti-IL-17 antibodies. Results： The arthritic score was increased in CIA mice in a time-dependent manner, as were the serum levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a antibody, PGE2, TNF-α, and IL-17. however, the oral administration of PC extract at 50 and 100 mg/kg in CIA mice significantly decreased the arthritic scores, and the serum levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a, PGE2, TNF-α, and IL-17 compared with those in the CIA group（P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）. Furthermore, histopathological improvement of the joint architecture in CIA mice was observed after administration of PC extract. PC extract also significantly inhibited the expression of TNF-α and IL-17 in the joints of CIA mice by suppressing the expression of their m RNA and proteins. Conclusion： PC extract may improve the pathological progression of RA through the inhibition of joint destruction by synovial inflammation and immune-stimulation, therefore, it would be a potential anti-arthritic agent in RA.

Ecological evaluation of marine macroalgal communities on five islands of Korea in the Yellow Sea

Macroalgae have long been used as biological indicators of marine ecosystem health worldwide due to their ecological importance and sensitivity to environmental stress.A number of previous studies have utilized macroalgal communities in monitoring surveys of environmental conditions.This study examined the characteristics and patterns of marine macroalgal communities in the Yellow Sea off the western coast of Korea.Macroalgae were analyzed for the number of species,biomass,and coverage ratio by macroalgal type.During the study period,82 macroalgal species(10 green algae,17 brown algae,and 55 red algae)were identified at the five study sites,with the highest number of species found at Gwanrido and Uido(both containing 41 species)and the lowest at Daeijakdo(27 species).The average biomass(via dry weight)was 98.63 g/m^(2),consisting of green algae(8.39 g/m^(2)),brown algae(35.08 g/m^(2)),and red algae(55.16 g/m^(2)).The dominant macroalgae species in terms of biomass were Corallina pilulifera,Sargassum thunbergii,and Ulva australis in the intertidal zones,and Botryocladia wrightii and Gelidium elegans in the subtidal zones.Richness,evenness,and diversity indices based on the biomass of abundant species were 5.08,0.65,and 2.30,respectively,over the entire study area.Based on the evaluation of the environmental states by the community indices,overall,the Ecological Evaluation Index of macroalgae communities in the study area was marked as“Good-Moderate”,but was determined as“ModerateLow”at several sites during summer.The results can be a direct approach in the assessment of coastal habitats in which anthropogenic as well as climate change influences persist.

Fabrication and characterization of Ag flake hybrid circuits with IPL-sintering

The study of photonic sintering has gained interest based on the advantages of fast processing at room temperature.however,printed electronics made from photonic sintering with an intensive pulsed light(IPL)energy source exhibit more mechanical instability than those made from conventional thermal sintering processes.To solve the mechanical instability problems,we fabricated Ag flake hybrid pastes with a variety of concentrations of Ag flake(0,25,50,75,and 100 wt.%).All of the screen-printed hybrid Ag circuits were fabricated on polyimide substrates and were sintered at 3.5 MW.Surface porosity was analyzed using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method.An IPC(Packaging Electronic Circuits)sliding test was performed to analyze the flexibility of the screen-printed Ag flake hybrid circuits.The adhesion strength of the hybrid circuits was evaluated with a roll-type 90°peel test.The hybrid Ag printed circuit showed improvements in both the flexibility and adhesion strength with the addition of Ag flake.

Fast interfacial kinetics derived from bicontinuous three-dimensional(3D)architecture is a strategic feature for achieving fast-charging lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).One of the main reasons is its large active surface and short diffusion path.Yet,understanding of unusual electrochemical properties still remain great challenge due to its complexity.In this study,we proposed a nickel–tin compound(Ni_(3)Sn_(4))supported by 3D Nickel scaffolds as main frame because the Ni_(3)Sn_(4) clearly offers a higher reversible capacity and stable cycling performance than bare tin(Sn).In order to verify the role of Ni,atomic-scale simulation based on density functional theory systematically addressed to the reaction mechanism and structural evolution of Ni_(3)Sn_(4) during the lithiation process.Our findings are that Ni enables Ni_(3)Sn_(4) to possess higher mechanical stability in terms of reactive flow stress,subsequently lead to improve Li storage capability.This study elucidates an understanding of the lithiation mechanism of Ni_(3)Sn_(4) and provides a new perspective for the design of high-capacity and high-power 3D anodes for fast-charging LIBs.
