In resonance with the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident lesson, a novel fuel design to enhance safety regarding severe accident scenarios has become increasingly appreciated in the nuclear power industry. This research focuses on analysis of the neutronic properties of a silicon carbide(SiC) cladding fuel assembly, which provides a greater safety margin as a type of accident-tolerant fuel for pressurized water reactors. The general physical performance of SiC cladding is explored to ascertain its neutronic performance. The neutron spectrum, accumulation of ^(239)Pu, physical characteristics,temperature reactivity coefficient, and power distribution are analyzed. Furthermore, the influences of a burnable poison rod and enrichment are explored. SiC cladding assemblies show a softer neutron spectrum and flatter power distribution than conventional Zr alloy cladding fuel assemblies. Lower enrichment fuel is required when SiC cladding is adopted. However, the positive reactivity coefficient associated with the SiC material remains to be offset. The results reveal that SiC cladding assemblies show broad agreement with the neutronic performance of conventional Zr alloy cladding fuel. In the meantime, its unique physical characteristics can lead to improved safety and economy.

Series of carbon nanotube supported Ru-based catalysts were prepared by impregnation method and applied successfully for complete removal of CO by CO selective methanation from H2-rich gas stream conducted in a fixed-bed quartz tubular reactor at ambient pressure. It was found that the metal promoter, reduction temperature and metal loading affected the catalytic properties significantly. The most excellent performance was presented by 30 wt% Ru-Zr/CNTs catalyst reduced at 350 ℃. Since it decreased CO concentration to below 10 ppm from 12000 ppm by CO selective methanation at the temperature range of 180-240 ℃, and kept CO selectivity higher than 85% at the temperature below 200 ℃. Characterization using XRD, TEM, H2-TPR and XPS suggests that Zr modification of Ru/CNTs results in the weakening of the interaction between Ru and CNTs, a higher Ru dispersion and the oxidization of surface Ru. Amorphous and high dispersed Ru particles with small size were obtained for 30 wt% Ru-Zr/CNTs catalyst reduced at 350 ℃, leading to excellent catalytic performance in CO selective methanation.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the contents of modified 3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl-L-alanine （DOPA）, named as do- pamine methacrylamide （DMA）, on the adhesion of mussel-inspired adhesives in air and water. A series of adhesives, p（DMA-co-MEA）, were synthesized by copolymerized DMA and methoxy ethylacrylate （MEA） with the content of DMA from 2 mol.% to 10 mol.%. Results of IH NMR show that the contents of DMA in all adhesives are near to the theory ratios of DMA in the staring reagents. Adhesives with more than 5 mol.% of DMA appear adhesion, while adhesives with 2 mol. % and 3 mol. % of DMA show almost no adhesion in air and water. Adhesive with 7 mol.% of DMA has the highest molecular weight and adhesion either in air or in water in all adhesives. Adhesion of adhesive is synergistically influenced by the content of DMA, molecular weight and elastic modulus of adhesive. It is because that higher content of DMA would provide more DOPA, which leads to the coordination bond between DOPA and metal ions. It is feasible to develop the mussel-inspired adhesive through incorporating DMA into polymers, which will have potential application in the clinic.

In this work, a quaternary Ni-Cu-Nb-Ta system has been designed to obtain composite microstructure with sphericalcrystalline Cu-rich particles embedded in amorphous Ni-rich matrix. The alloy samples were prepared by using single-roller melting-spinning method. The microstructure and thermal properties of the as-quenched alloy samples were char-acterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, anddifferential scanning calorimetry. It shows that the spherical crystalline Cu-rich particles are embedded in the amorphousNi-rich matrix. The average size of the Cu-rich particles is strongly dependent upon the Cu content. The effect of the alloycomposition on the behavior of liquid-liquid phase separation and microstructure evolution was discussed. The phaseformation in the Ni-based metallic glass matrix composite was analyzed.
