Genetic diversity and relatedness inferred from microsatellite loci as a tool for broodstock management of fine flounder Paralichthys adspersus

Paralichthys adspersus is a native species from the Pacific coast of South America that is of great economic importance for Peruvian *** though establishing sustainable farming depends on avoiding irreversible damage to the population gene pool due to processes such as inbreeding,studies focusing on genetically characterizing farmed stocks are yet to be *** using ten microsatellite loci on captive and wild individuals of ***,we successfully characterized the only commercial broodstock of this species in Peru by means of determining the genetic diversity and inferring *** most microsatellite loci showed deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium,the genetic diversity levels in the commercial broodstock were considered healthy compared to those obtained for a wild population,with an average number of alleles of 17.40,an effective number of alleles of 9.14,and an observed and expected heterozygosity of 0.49 and *** significant differences between the broodstock and the wild population in terms of genetic diversity were *** fixation index and analysis of molecular variance also indicated a low rate of differentiation between both *** relatedness estimation,the analysis based on five method-of-moment estimators and a maximum-likelihood estimator showed the category“unrelated”as being the most probable relationship among the individuals within the commercial *** findings reveal the conservation of genetic diversity in this population and outline potential breeding strategies that hatchery managers could use to minimize the loss of genetic diversity and long-term *** could help establish proper genetic management in captive populations of *** and should apply to other captive stocks where pedigree information is lacking.

Retrieval of Elastic Green’s Tensor near a Cylindrical Inhomogeneity from Vector Correlations

Multiple scattering of elastic waves in realistic media makes that averagefield intensities or energy densities follow diffusive processes. In such regime the successiveP to S energy conversions by distributed random inhomogeneities give rise toequipartition which means that in the phase space the available elastic energy is distributedin averagewith equal amounts among the possible states of P and S waves. Insuch diffusive regime the P to S energy ratio equilibrates in an universal way independentof the particular details of the scattering. It has been demonstrated that averagingthe cross correlations at any two points of an elastic medium subjected to diffuse elasticwavefields leads to the emergence of the Green function, which is the wave fieldthat would be observed at one position if an impulsive load is applied at the other. Inthis work we study the problem of the retrieval of the 2D tensor elastodynamic Greenfunction in an infinite elastic space containing a circular cylinder inclusion. We illuminateisotropically the elastic spacewith plane waves. We assume the spectra for both Pand S waves uniform but such that the energy ratio ES/EP=(a/b)2, which is the onepredicted by equipartition theory in two-dimensions. We then show that the Fouriertransform of azimuthal average of the cross-correlation of motion between two pointswithin an elastic medium is proportional to the imaginary part of the exact Green tensorfunction between these points. The numerical results presented here point out thepossibility of detection and imaging of diffractors and resonant diffractors by crosscorrelation even in presence of attenuation exists.

Aims The spatial distribution of biotic and abiotic factors may play a dominant role in determining the distribution and abundance of plants in arid and semiarid *** this study,we evaluated how spatial patterns of microhabitat variables and the degree of spatial dependence of these variables influence the distribution and abundance of the endangered cactus Harrisia *** We used geostatistical analyses of five microhabitat variables(*** cover,soil cover and light incidence)and recorded the abundance of *** in 50 permanent plots established across Mona Island,Puerto Rico,by the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service as part of the Forest Inventory and Analysis(USDA–FIA).We also used partial Mantel tests to evaluate the relationships between microhabitat variables and abundance of ***,controlling for spatial *** findings Abundance of *** showed strong affinities with microhabitat variables related to canopy structure,soil cover and light *** distribution of this cactus species throughout the island was consistent with the spatial variation patterns of these *** general,landscape-level analyses suggested a predictive value of microhabitat traits for the distribution and abundance of this endangered *** sensitive cacti species,wherein abundance may be influenced by similar variables,these types of analyses may be helpful in developing management plans and identifying critical habitats for conservation.

Cardiovascular effects of hemoglobin response in patients receiving epoetin alfa and oral iron in heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction

Background Previous data from a recently conducted prospective, single blind randomized clinical trial among community dwelling older patients with heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction （HFPEF） and anemia randomized to treatment with epoetin alfa （erythro-poiesis-stimulating agents, ESA） vs. placebo did not demonstrate significant benefits of therapy regarding left ventricular （LV） structure, functional capacity, or quality of life （QOL）. However, several patients randomized to the treatment arm were non-responders with a subop-timal increase in hemoglobin. All patients in the trial also received oral ferrous gluconate, which could have contributed to increases in he-moglobin observed in those receiving placebo. Accordingly, we performed an analysis separating patients into responders vs. non-responders in order to determine if measured improvement in anemia would have any effect on clinical endpoints. Methods A total of 56 patients （age 77 ± 11 years, 68%female） were recruited who had anemia defined as a hemoglobin of≤12 g/dL （average, 10.4 ± 1 g/dL） with HFPEF defined as having NHANES-CHF （National Health And Nutrition Examination Survey：Congestive Heart Failure） criteria score of≥3 and an ejection fraction of＆gt;40%（average EF=63%±15%）. Patients were randomly allocated to receive either ESA and ferrous gluconate or ferrous gluconate only. In this analysis, a responder was defined as a patient with an increase of 1 g/dL in the first 4 weeks of the trial. Re-sults Nineteen subjects were classified as responders compared to 33 non-responders. While the average hemoglobin increased signifi-cantly at the end of 6 months for responders （1.8 ± 0.3 vs. 0.8 ± 0.2 g/dL, P = 0.004）, 50% of the subjects assigned to ESA were non-responders. Left ventricular function including ejection fraction （P=0.32） and end diastolic volume （P=0.59） was unchanged in res-ponders compared to non-responders. Winkler Support Model and Nonlinear Boundary Conditions Applied to 3D Elastic Contact Problem Using the Boundary Element Method

This work presents a numerical methodology for modeling the Winkler supports and nonlinear conditions by proposing new boundary conditions. For the boundary conditions of Winkler support model, the surface tractions and the displacements normal to the surface of the solid are unknown, but their relationship is known by means of the ballast coefficient, whereas for nonlinear boundary conditions, the displacements normal to the boundary of the solid are zero in the positive direction but are allowed in the negative direction. In those zones, detachments of nodes might appear, leading to a nonlinearity, because the number of nodes that remain fixed or of the detached ones (under tensile tractions) is unknown. The proposed methodology is applied to the 3D elastic receding contact problem using the boundary element method. The surface t r actions and the displacements of the common int erface bet ween the two solids in contac t under the influence of different supports are calculated as well as the boundary zone of the solid where the new boundary conditions are applied. The problem is solved by a double-iterative met hod, so in the final solut ion, t here are no t r act ions or pene trations between the two solids or at the boundary of the solid where the nonlinear boundary conditions are Simula ted. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by examples.

Characterization of the negative carbon isotope shift in segment C2,its global implications as a harbinger of OAEla

Lower Cretaceous C-isotope records show intermittent negative/positive spikes, and consistent patterns of coevalchemostratigraphic curves thus document shifts that signal simultaneous responses of temporal changes in the global carbon reservoir. The standard pattern registered by the δ13Corg and δ13Ccarb in Lower Aptian sediments includes distinct isotope segments C1 to C8 （Menegatti et al., 1998）. In the E1 Pui section, Organy Basin, Spain, C-isotope segment C2 is the longest interval preceding segments C3-C6 associated with oceanic anoxic event la （OAE la）, and reveals a distinct negative shift of-1.8‰ to -2.23‰ defining the C-isotope pattern within that interval. Total inorganic carbon （TIC）, total organic carbon （TOC）, δ13Corg, microfacies, n-alkanes show no difference before, during, or after the negative inflection. The biomarkers indicate that organic matter （OM） mainly originates from algal/microbial sources because short-chain length homologues （〈 nCtg） dominate, nC2o through nC25 indicate some contribution from aquatic vegetation, but little from higher plants （〉nC20, as also suggested by the terrestrial/aquatic ratio ofn-alkanes or （TAR） = [（nf27＋nf29＋nC31）/（nC15＋nCt7＋rlCt9）] （averages 0.085）. We suggest that conjoint pulses of contemporaneous LIPs （Ontong java） and massive explosive volcanism in northeast Asia, the Songliao Basin （SB-V）, best conform to plausible causes of the negative intra-C2 carbon isotopic excursion （CIE） at that time. Because of its apparent common occurrence the intra-C2 inflection could be a useful marker harbinger to the more pronounced CIE C3, the hallmark of OAE 1 a.

The expansion of the Internet of Moving Things(IoMT)leads to limitless and continuous working playgrounds exploited by highly dynamic end *** requires the adoption of multi-Radio Access Technologies(RATs)-based strategies to provide IoMT units with ubiquitous *** this end,the development of secure bootstrapping and authentication mechanisms is necessary to permit the secure operation of end *** the transmission and power limitations of these elements,current cryptographic solutions do not address these stringent *** that reason,in the study we present a Multi-Access Edge Computing(MEC)-based endto-end architecture that enables an efficient and secure authentication and key agreement between end devices and network servers over heterogeneous resource-limited networks such as the Low Power Wide Area Networks(LPWANs).Our proposal is based on the Authentication,Authorization,and Accounting(AAA)architecture and the recent Internet Engineering Task Force initiatives Static Context Header Compression and Low-Overhead *** results obtained from experimental tests reveal the validity of the proposal as it enables constrained IoMT devices to gain IPv6 connectivity as well as performs end-to-end secure authentication with notable reliability and controlled latency.
