Apparent electrical conductivity is an important parameter for describing the spatial vari-ability of physical and chemical attributes of the soil and for the delineation of manage-ment *** objective of this work is to outline management zones for the cocoa cultivation based on the spatial variability of the productivity and the apparent electrical conductivity(ECa)of the *** collection was performed in a regular sample grid con-taining 120 points in an area cultivated with cocoa trees,located in the municipality of Ilhe´us,state of Bahia,*** each sampling point(cocoa tree),soil samples were col-lected to determine chemical *** was measured for one year,counting,monthly,the number of fruits,which were classified into off-season cocoa,harvest and annual *** of the apparent electrical conductivity of the soil were performed at different times of the year using a portable conductivity *** data were analyzed using classical statistics and *** management zones were delin-eated using the fuzzy k-means *** ideal number of class was defined using the fuzziness performance index(FPI)and the entropy of the modified partition(MPE)*** Kappa coefficient was used to validate the management zones,assessing their agreement with the chemical attributes of the *** ECa of the soil values pre-sented moderate temporal variation,with maximum amplitude of 19.37 mS m1 and min-imum of 0.82 mS m1 between measurement periods;higher averages of the ECa coincided with the highest levels of water in the *** measurements of the ECa of the soil carried out in April and October showed greater correlation with the chemical attributes of the soil,with significant values for 11 and 8 of the 17 attributes evaluated,*** man-agement zones from the ECa measured in April showed:a)reduced number of classes;b)spatial continuity between classes,and;c)agreement from reasonable(kappa between

Ni/Carbon was prepared in two steps： initially cellulose as carbon source and NiCl2·6H2O as catalyst of the carbonization process were submitted to hydrothermal treatment at 200 ℃ and further to thermal treatment at 900 ℃ under argon atmosphere. The obtained material contains Ni nanoparticles with face-centered cubic （fcc） structure dispersed on amorphous carbon with graphitic domains. PtRu/C electrocatalysts （carbon- supported PtRu nanoparticles） were prepared by an alcohol-reduction process using Ni/Carbon as support. The materials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and tested as anodes in single direct methanol fuel cell （DMFC）. The performances of PtRu/C electrocatalysts using Ni/Carbon as support were superior to those obtained for PtRu/C using commercial carbon black Vulcan XC72 as support.

MM： To investigate whether, under the influence of pol ypectomy, the incidence of adenoma decreases with age.METHODS： Consecutive patients with colonic adenomas identified at index colonoscopy were retrospectively selected if they had undergone three or more complete colonoscopies, at least 24 mo apart. Patients who had any first-degree relative with colorectal cancer were excluded. Data regarding number of adenomas at each colonoscopy, their location, size and histological classification were recorded. The monthly incidence density of adenomas after the index examination was estimated for the study population, by using the person-years method. Baseline adenomas were excluded from incidence calculations but their characteristics were correlated with recurrence at follow-up, using the X^42 test.RESULTS： One hundred and fifty-six patients were included （109 male, mean age at index colonoscopy 56.8 ± 10.3 years）, with follow-up that ranged from 48 to 232 mo. No significant correlations were observed between the number, the presence of villous component, or the size of adenomas at index colonoscopy and the presence of adenomas at subsequent colonoscopies （P = 0.49, 0.12 and 0.78, respectively）. The incidence of colonic adenomas was observed to decay from 1.4% person-months at the beginning of the study to values close to 0%, at 12 years after index colonoscopy.CONCLUSION： Our results suggest the sporadic formation of adenomas occurs within a discrete period and that, when these adenomas are removed, all neoplasia-prone clones may be extinguished.

N-acetylcysteine modulates angiogenesis and vasodilation in stomach such as DNA damage in blood of portal hypertensive rats

AIM: To evaluate the antioxidant effect of N-acetylcysteine(NAC) on the stomach of rats with portal ***: Twenty-four male Wistar rats weighing ± 250 g were divided into four experimental groups(n =6 each): Sham-operated(SO),SO + NAC,partial portal vein ligation(PPVL),and PPVL + NAC. Treatment with NAC in a dose of 10 mg/kg(i.p.) diluted in 0.6 m L of saline solution was administered daily for 7 d starting 8 d after the surgery. Animals from the PPVL and SO group received saline solution(0.6 m L) for the same period of time as the PPVL + NAC and SO + NAC group. On the 15 th day the animals were anesthetized and we evaluated portal pressure by cannulating mesenteric artery. After,we removed the stomach for further analysis. We performed immunohistochemical analysis for endothelial nitric oxide synthase(e NOS),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),and nitrotirosine(NTT) proteins in stomach. We also evaluated e NOS and VEGF by Western blot analysis and assessed DNA damage in blood samples by the comet ***: The portal hypertension group exhibited increases in portal pressure when compared to SO group(29.8 ± 1.8 vs 12.0 ± 0.3 mm Hg)(P dex and damage frequency on those animals. Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)(PHB)is a biothechnological and biodegradable thermoplastic polymer from the polyhydroxyalkanoates(PHAs)family,whose chain regularity,high molecular weight,and physical and mechanical properties comparable to polypropylene(PP)are characteristics that have made PHB a prominent commercial ***,its susceptibility to thermal degradation and hydrolysis has limited many *** address the challenges associated with processing,a random copolymer of 95.86 mol%3-hydroxybutyrate and 4.14 mol%3-hydroxyvalerate(referred as PHB)was compounded without(neat PHB)and with 0.25,0.5,1,and 1.5 wt%of chain extender(Joncryl■ADR 4368),consisting of multifunctional epoxy groups,and melt mixed in an internal mixer at 170℃,50 rpm,and residence times of 5,10,and 15 *** effect of chain extender concentration and residence time on the effectiveness of Joncryl■ADR 4368 to recover the pristine PHB properties were investigated through torque rheometry,melt flow index(MFI),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),tensile testing,and thermogravimetric *** results indicated that an increase in residence time strongly influenced the prevalence of thermomechanical degradation reactions over chain extension reactions of PHB during processing in the molten *** residence times favored chain extension,while longer times favored chain *** trend led to no enhancement of PHB mechanical properties processed for 10 and 15 min,regardless of additive content *** flow index,thermogravimetric analysis and tensile strength exhibited an asymptotic behavior with the increase in additive concentration,exhibiting a noteworthy improvement in tensile strength and temperature at the highest rate of thermal degradation(TMAX),and a decrease in melt flow index of neat PHB with only 0.25 wt%of additive mixed for 5 *** results found in this work allow additional data for processing PHB by manipulating the ratios of multifunctional chain

Although the frequency of metabolic risk factors for cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is increasing,chronic hepatitis B(CHB)and chronic hepatitis C(CHC)remain the most relevant risk factors for advanced liver disease *** addition to liver damage,hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)infections are associated with a myriad of extrahepatic manifestations including mixed cryoglobulinaemia,lymphoproliferative disorders,renal disease,insulin resistance,type 2 diabetes,sicca syndrome,rheumatoid arthritislike polyarthritis,and autoantibody ***,the list has grown to include *** of muscle mass or muscle function is a critical feature of malnutrition in cirrhotic patients and has been found in approximately 23.0%-60.0%of patients with advanced liver ***,among published studies,there is significant heterogeneity in the aetiologies of hepatic diseases and measurement methods used to determine *** particular,the interaction between sarcopenia,CHB and CHC has not been completely clarified in a real-world *** can result from a complex and multifaceted virus-host-environment interplay in individuals chronically infected with HBV or ***,in the present review,we provide an overview of the concept,prevalence,clinical relevance,and potential mechanisms of sarcopenia in patients with chronic viral hepatitis,with an emphasis on clinical outcomes,which have been associated with skeletal muscle loss in these patients.A comprehensive overview of sarcopenia in individuals chronically infected with HBV or HCV,independent of the stage of the liver disease,will reinforce the necessity of an integrated medical/nutritional/physical education approach in the daily clinical care of patients with CHB and CHC.
