The micropropation is an important biotechnological tool for obtaining and maintaining mother vine plants with high quality plant health. The objective was to evaluate the establishment and multiplication in vitro and ex vitro acclimatization of grape genotypes with potential for Southern Brazil. Vine nodal segments were cultured in five culture medium formulations without adding growth regulators. It was evaluated the number of leaves and roots, length of roots and shoots, replication rate, relative chlorophyll index, percentage of regenerated and rooted plants, dry biomass of shoot, root and total plants grown in vitro and after acclimatization. In vitro propagation of IAC 571-6 rootstock and cv. Poloskei Muskotaly through nodal segments provided high rates of regeneration and rooting. High survival rates were obtained in the acclimatization of IAC 571-6 and P?l?skei Muskotaly. Considering all the variables, the culture medium Roubelakis showed the best growth rates and development for shoots and roots, and in vitro multiplication rate for IAC 571-6 and Poloskei Muskotaly grape varieties.

The disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread very rapidly throughout the world, causing various clinical manifestations and affecting several organs and systems. However, the possibility of vertical transmission of COVID-19 in symptomatic pregnant women has been questioned. The aim of this work was to report cases of possible vertical transmission in pregnant women affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as well as its clinical repercussions on the newborn. In this paper, we conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study by analyzing medical records of pregnant women admitted at the military hospital, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, diagnosed with COVID-19 and who had positive newborns. To evaluate epidemiological data, clinical manifestations, laboratorial and histopathological changes were related to such vertical transmission. Only six tested newborns were positive for COVID-19. The mothers had no respiratory symptoms, and the gestational age was at term, except for one newborn born prematurely due to detection of pericadial effusion. Three neonates had respiratory symptoms, requiring ventilatory support. None of the mothers or newborns died. During the pandemic, possible vertical transmission cases of infected pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy were observed. According to the case reports published in the literature, they illustrate phenotypes of neonatal involvement with varied clinical manifestations and severity;however, further scientific studies are needed to prove the effective vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in positive pregnant women.

Although thermoplastic starch(TPS)is biodegradable,its low mechanical resistance limits its wide *** bagasse(SB)fibers can be used as reinforcement in TPS matrix composites,but the influence of fiber size on the properties of the composite is still *** this study,TPS composites reinforced with SB short fibers of four sizes were processed and characterized in order to analyze the influence of fiber size on the mechanical properties of the TPS/SB *** was observed that the interaction between fiber and matrix was good and optimized when the fibers are sifted in sieves between 30 and 50 mesh,obtaining fibers with average length of 1569±640μm and average diameter of 646±166μ*** these composites,increases of more than 660%in the modulus and more than 100%in the maximum tension were verified when compared to the pure TPS.

Background: This study aimed to determine the litterfall production, accumulation, decomposition rate and nutrient stocks, and to estimate the soil carbon(C) and nitrogen(N) stocks in three palm swamp ecosystems with different land use intensities in the Southeast of ***: Three palm swamp ecosystems with different land use intensities were evaluated: Agua Doce(AD),conserved area;Capivara(CV), area with small agricultural practices;and Buriti Grosso(BG), area with an intensive land use. Produced and accumulated litterfall from the Cerrado areas surrounding the palm swamps were collected from October 2014 to September 2015, and the Ca, Mg, K, and P concentrations were determined in the dry and rainy seasons. Soil samples were collected in the surrounding Cerrado and within the palm swamps until 100 cm soil depth to determine bulk density and soil C and N contents and ***: Annual litterfall production in the Cerrado surrounding palm swamps was similar in AD(3.58 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1) and CV(3.79 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1), and was lower in BG(2.84 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1), and was more intense during the dry season. Furthermore, litterfall accumulation was higher in CV(7.12 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1) and BG(6.75 Mg·ha^-1·year^-1), culminating in lower decomposition rates. AD showed the highest decomposition rate(0.60) due to its vegetation structure and conservation. The macronutrient contents from the production and accumulated litterfall had a low influence of the land use, decreasing in the following order: Ca > K > Mg > P. Soils in CV and BG palm swamp areas showed higher values of C and N contents, due to the use of land for agricultural crops and cattle raising in an extensive(rangeland) system. Our work aimed to test the hypothesis that soil microscale heterogeneity act as a community ecological driver,increasing diversity and promoting structural shifts on the Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest(SDTF)tree *** evaluated the relationship between microscale edaphic variations and floristic–structural patterns of tree communities in a SDTF fragment located in the southern end of the Brazilian Caatinga *** and soil data were obtained through 27 sample units of 400 m2(20 m 920 m),within each one we measured and identified at species level all arboreal individuals with Circumference at the Breast Height greater or equal to 10 cm,and also collected the soil *** the data we evaluated soil variation influence on the tree community structural and floristic patterns trough generalized linear *** explained the small-scale structural and floristic variations,contributing significantly to biomass,sprouting and to floristic relationships between sample *** was also observed a possible relation of the result with the Caatinga domain biogeographic history,due the presence of Sedimentary Caatinga species,which are not expected for the study *** plays an important role in driving small-scale complexity and diversity of SDTF,but we also suggest that Caatinga biogeographic events have influence on the high heterogeneity patterns.

One-week dual therapy with ranitidine bismuth citrate and clarithromycin for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection in Brazilian patients with peptic ulcer

AIM:To assess the efficacy and safety of ranitidine bismuth citrate plus clarithromycin given for 1 wk in Brazilian patients with peptic ulcer. METHODS: One hundred and twenty patients with peptic ulcer were randomized in two treatment groups: (1)1-wk regimen consisting of ranitidine bismuth citrate 400 mg b.i.d. with clarithromycin 500 mg b.i.d. or (2) 2-wk regimen of the same treatment. Eradication of the infection was considered when both the histologic examination and the urease test were negative for the infection 3 mo after treatment. RESULTS: By intention to treat analysis, Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) was eradicated in 73% and 76% of patients, respectively treated for 1 or 2 wk (P>0.05). By per protocol analysis, the eradication rates were 80% and 83%, respectively, in patients treated for 1 or 2 wk (P>0.05). Nine patients (8.2%) reported minor side effects. CONCLUSION: One-week therapy with ranitidine bismuth citrate and clarithromycin is safe, well tolerated and effective for treatment of H pylori infection, and appears to be comparable to the 2-wk regimen in terms of efficacy.x
