Application of Amine-Functionalized Cellulose Foam for CO2 Capture and Storage in the Brewing Industry

Due to a lack of technology,smaller breweries simply dump excess CO2 into the atmosphere,fueling the greenhouse effect and global ***-of-the-art CO2 capture technologies using nanofibrillated cellulose are expensive and require laborious ***,there is a high demand for affordable alternatives in order to reduce the environmental impact in this industry *** work describes a novel route for a quick and cost-efficient synthesis of amine-functionalized cellulose pellets by a surfactantassisted steam explosion *** values with this method were porosity of 92%and density of 67 g/cm^*** on polyethylenimine(PeI)content and distribution revealed a maximum PeI concentration of 20 wt%with decreasing concentration to the core of a *** stability against brewery exhaust gas was determined and CO2 release at^120℃ could be *** tests under simulated working conditions with a novel laboratory reactor yielded a CO2 capacity of 1.0 mmol/g or 67 mol/m^3,which is comparable to values known from the literature for other cellulose-based adsorbents.

Impact of Adaptive Quizzing as a Practice and Remediation Strategy to Prepare for the NCLeX-RN

National Council Licensure examination-Registered Nurse (NCLeX-RN) outcomes are extremely important to nursing institutions and students for myriad reasons. For students, the NCLeX-RN represents one of the final milestones to conquer before entering a nursing career. Nursing programs monitor NCLeX-RN pass rates as an important gauge of program quality and minimum levels frequently must be met. This study explored the implementation of an adaptive quizzing and learning system as part of an NCLeX-RN preparation strategy designed to increase student engagement and subsequent success on the NCLeX-RN. The adaptive quizzing system was used as part of an ongoing, proactive strategy to student preparation. This strategy is in contrast to the practice of using high-stakes exams scores to try and predict student NCLeX-RN outcomes. In the latter case there is mixed evidence on how scores relate to remediation and moving students toward success based on evidence of need. The study school required students (N = 54) to take regular, adaptive practice quizzes throughout their final year in the nursing program. Students were also given the HeSI e2 in their final semester and all but one student achieved the target threshold with a range of scores (772 to 1028). Despite this variability, 90.7% of the students in the study group passed the NCLeX-RN on their first attempt, with a pass rate of 98% when considering those who passed on the second attempt. NCLeX-RN pass rates at the study school increased by 11.55% following the implementation of the system and in the second year of implementation (the data analyzed for this study) increased an additional 3.95% from the previous year. With many factors to consider, we cannot say, unequivocally, that using the AQS resulted in an increase in NCLeX-RN pass rates at the study school. The catalytic performance during the 1-butyne hydrogenation using two reduced Al_(2) O_(3)-supported Pdbased catalysts was carried out in a total recirculation system with an external fixed-bed *** lab-prepared egg-shell NiPd/CeO_(2)-Al_(2) O_(3) catalyst(NiPdCe) with Pd loading=0.5 wt%,Ni/Pd atomic ratio=1 and CeO_(2) loading=3 wt% was synthesized and characterized,and it was compared with an egg-shell Al_(2) O_(3)-supported Pd based commercial catalyst(PdCC).The reduced catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and high-resolution transmission electron *** textural characteristics and ammonia temperature-programmed desorption profiles of the fresh(unreduced) catalysts were also *** catalysts show high 1-butyne conversion and selectivity to 1-butene,but the catalysts also present important differences between hydroisomerizing and hydrogenating *** catalyst shows higher capability for hydroisomerization reactions,while the PdCC catalyst exhibits higher hydrogenating *** observed catalytic performances can be interesting for some industrial processes and can provide a guideline for the development of a Pd-based catalyst with specific catalytic properties.

A Comparison of Blind and Laryngoscopic Insertion of the easyTube

Introduction: The easyTube is a disposable, polyvinyl-chloride, double-lumen, supraglottic airway device, which allows ventilation in either esophageal or tracheal position. The easyTube may be positioned into the esophagus blindly or using a laryngoscope. Methods: Our study compared blind versus laryngoscopic-guided esophageal easyTube insertion. Thirty two anesthesiologists inserted an easyTube, size 41 Fr, into a mannequin, by using a blind and a laryngoscopic technique in a 2 × 2 crossover design. Results: No statistically significant difference in the time to achieve an effective airway was found: 23.9 ± 6 seconds for the blind and 29.5 ± 7.6 seconds for the laryngoscopic-guided technique. Conclusion: easyTube insertion was equally successful with or without a laryn-goscope in a mannequin when used by anesthesia providers.

AIM： To examine the relationships between pre-diag- nostic biomarkers and colorectal cancer risk and assess their relevance in predictive ***： A nested case-control study was designed to include all first primary incident colorectal cancer cases diagnosed between inclusion in the SUpplemen- tation en VItamines et Min^raux AntioXydants cohort in 1994 and the end of follow-up in 2007. Cases （n = 50） were matched with two randomly selected con- trols （n = 100）. Conditional logistic regression models were used to investigate the associations between pre- diagnostic levels of hs-CRP, adiponectin, leptin, soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 （sVCAM-1）, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-I, e-selectin, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and colorectal cancer risk. Area under the receiver operating curves （AUC） and relative integrated discrimination improvement （RIDI） statistics were used to assess the discriminatory poten- tial of the models. ReSULTS： Plasma adiponectin level was associated with decreased colorectal cancer risk （P for linear trend -- 0.03）. Quartiles of sVCAM-1 were associated with increased colorectal cancer risk （P for linear trend = 0.02）. No association was observed with any of the other biomarkers. Compared to standard models with known risk factors, those including both adiponectin and sVCAM-1 had substantially improved performance for colorectal cancer risk prediction （P for AUC improve- ment = 0.01, RIDI = 26.5%）. CONCLUSION： These results suggest that pre-diag- nostic plasma adiponectin and sVCAM-1 levels are as- sociated with decreased and increased colorectal cancer risk, respectively. These relationships must be confirmed in large validation studies.

Goat whey is an industry-discarded dairy by-product that has interesting nutritional value and a nutrient composition with important functional potential,where proteins have a high biological value and play an important role in the organism’s ***,the aim of this study was to identify,quantify,concentrate and investigate the capacity of goat whey proteins to perform different biological activities and to evaluate their acute *** proteins were quantified and identified by Bradford,Kjehdal and SDS-PAGe *** activity was performed against Listeria monocytogenes,Salmonella spp.,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and escherichia coli microorganisms and showed MIC ranging from 15 to 120μg mL-1,with the highest inhibition for *** *** activity was performed against human malignant melanoma cells and their proliferation inhibition was up to 66.8%within 72 h of *** highest antioxidant capacity was obtained at concentration 2 mg that showed 29.69%of inhibition of DPPH radical *** acute toxicity test was performed using Artemia franciscana larvae in which whey proteins were able to preserve larval survival throughout ***,we can conclude that goat’s whey has proteins that can play a positive effect on health,with antimicrobial activity and without *** present study highlights the great potential of goat’s whey to be developed as a safe biopreservative or as a functional ingredient in the food industry.

A Potentiometric evaluation of Stability Constants of Two-Step Overlapping equilibria via a Bilogarithmic Hyperbolic Cosine Method

A bilogarithmic hyperbolic cosine method for the evaluation of overlapping formation constants at varying (or fixed) ionic strength is devised in this paper and applied to data reported in the analytical literature, i.e. succinic acid system, Cu(II)-glycine system and Ag(I)-aminobutan-1-ol system. The method is based on the linearization of the formation function ? = f(pH) or ? = f(pL) data. A theoretical slope of unity should be obtained thus proving the correctness of the assumed equilibria. An additional advantage of the bilogarithmic method proposed is that it provides a closed scale representation of Y and X unlike other plots. This paper forms part of an investigation into the uses of bilogarithmic methods and hyperbolic functions in parameter estimation. Methods based on the application of spectrophotometric measurements have been the subject of recent studies.
