Effect of Silicon Amendment on Growth and Nitrogen Status of Common Landscaping Plants

Agriculture and natural vegetations in South Florida face with significant environmental threats such as heat and saltwater intrusion. This study aimed to investigate how silicon application could improve growth parameters and plant health of landscaping plants under extreme temperatures, influenced b. glob.l climate changes. Cocoplum (Chrysob.lanus icaco), cab.age palm (Sab.l palmetto), satinleaf (Chrysophyllum oliviforme), and wild coffee (Psychotria nervosa) plants received an initial slow-release fertilizer of 15 g/pot with an 8N-3P-9K composition. Silicon was applied as a 1% silicic acid solution, with concentrations ranging from 0 g/pot to 6 g/pot of 7.5 L. Evaluations were carried out every 30 days, continuing until 180 days after the treatment was completed. Phenotypic traits, including leaf count and plant height, were assessed alongside measurements from handheld optical non-destructive sensors. These measurements included the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), SPAD-502, and atLEAF chlorophyll meters. Application of 4 g/pot and 6 g/pot of silicon significantly improved NDVI values (0.78). Conversely, cocoplum plants exhib.ted greater plant height (79.6) at 0 g/pot silicon compared to other treatments. In wild coffee samplings, the control group showed the highest plant height and SPAD readings (93.49) compared to other treatments. Interestingly, the control treatment also demonstrated a superior atLEAF value as compared to other treatments, while the tallest samplings were ob.erved with 6 g/pot of silicon (62.82) in cab.age palm plants. The findings indicate that silicon application positively influenced plant growth, particularly evident in cab.age palms. However, cocoplum and wild coffee exhib.ted a negative correlation b.tween plant height and silicon concentrations.

In this study,the sperm ultrastructure of three species of Idarnes genus was investigated using light and transmission electron *** morphology of the three species was similar to that of most Chalcidoidea,with helicoidally twisted nucleus and *** head region consists of an acrosome and a nucleus;the nucleus-flagellum transition region characterized b. the presence of mitochondrial derivatives and the centriolar adjunct;a flagellum region,which includes the axoneme with microtub.lar arrangement 9+9+2 and two mitochondrial ***,the sperm of these three species exhib.t features that discriminate one species from each other:(1)only one species,Idarnes sp.2(carme group)exhib.ted an extracellular sheath surrounding the anterior portion of the nucleus,which extends to the anterior region of the flagellum,b.t it did not present filaments;(2)the acrosome in the three species was quite different,Idarnes sp.1 and Idarnes sp.2(carme group)has two compartments(acrosomal and sub.crosomal vesicles)while Idarnes sp.3(flavicollis group)has a third compartment(perforatorium);(3)the centriolar adjunct elongated and its location among the mitochondrial derivatives is similar for the three species analyzed;(4)mitochondrial derivatives differ b.tween the species,with triangular(Idarnes sp.1 and sp.3)and elongated or flat shaped(Idarnes sp.2)*** data shows that sperm structure may differ within the same genus and confirms the potential of these cells in phylogenetic and taxonomic analyses in the Chalcidoidea superfamily,as well as in Hymenoptera in general.

Erectile dysfunction is a common side effect of finasteride and dutasteride treatments. The ob.ective of this study was to investigate the structural changes in the penis using a b.nign prostatic hyperplasia （b.H） rodent model treated with dutasteride or finasteride. Sixty male rats were divided into the following groups： C, untreated control rats; C ＋ D, control rats receiving dutasteride; C ＋ F, control rats receiving finasteride; H, untreated spontaneously hypertensive rats （SHRs）; H ＋ D, SHRs treated with dutasteride; and H ＋ F, SHRs treated with finasteride. Treatments were performed for 40 days, and penises were collected immediately thereafter. The organs were analyzed using histomorphometric methods to determine the cross-sectional penile area, as well as the surface density （Sv） of smooth muscle fib.rs, connective tissue, elastic system fib.rs, and sinusoidal spaces of the corpus cavernosum. The results were compared using a one-way ANoVA with b.nferroni＇s posttest. Groups C ＋ D and C ＋ F had a significantly smaller penile cross-sectional area, b.t more elastic system fib.r Sv compared to Group C. Group C ＋ D showed less smooth muscle Sv, and Group H showed more connective tissue b.t a smaller sinusoidal space Sv in the corpus cavernosum compared to Group C. Groups H ＋ D and H ＋ F had less smooth muscle Sv than Group H. Group H ＋ D also had more connective tissue and elastic system fib.r Sv than Group H. b.th dutasteride and finasteride promoted penile modifications in the control rat penis, although this affect was ~reater in Group H animals. In this rodent model, dutasteride was the drug that most affected the corpus cavernosum.

Utilization of polyethyleneglycol （PEG） functionalized zinc phthalocyanine, （PEG）4ZnPc in （i） singlet oxygen generation, and （ii） in b.ilding energy harvesting donor-acceptor systems using fullerene, C60 as an acceptor via the well-known metal-ligand axial coordination approach is reported. The （PEG）4ZnPe was found to b. capab.e of producing singlet oxygen with a quantum yield, ooa of 0.77 in toluene, a value higher than that ob.ained for pristine （t-b.）4ZnPc （φ△=0.54） carrying no PEG groups, revealing its usefulness in photodynamic therapy applications. Spectroscopic studies revealed efficient b.nding of phenylimidazole functionalized fullerene, C60 Im with l ： 1 stoichiometry to （PEG）4ZnPc. b.nding constant K for the formation of （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad was found to b. 6 × 103 M 1 revealing moderate stab.lity. Geometric and electronic studies of the dyad was arrived b. b.LYP/3-21G（＊） method. The HoMo level was found to b. on zinc phthalocyanine entity while the LUMo level was found to b. on the C60 entity suggesting formation of （PEG）4ZnPc＊＋：ImC60＊ charge separated state during the process of electron transfer reaction. Redox studies on the （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad enab.ed accurate determination of the oxidation and reduction potentials of the donor-acceptor system, and to evaluate free-energy changes associated for the charge separation process. Kinetics of photoinduced charge separation and recomb.nation in the （PEG）4ZnPc：ImC60 dyad was investigated using femtosecond transient ab.orption studies. Relatively long-lived charge separated states were confirmed for the dyad suggesting their potential usefulness in energy harvesting applications.

EDX,X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy and the catalytic activity toward formic acid electro-oxidation in acid medium investigated b. cyclic voltammetry(CV),chroamperometry(CA)and tests on direct formic acid fuel cell(DFAFC)at 100℃.X-ray diffractograms of PdAuIr/C-Sb.o5·Sno2electrocatalysts showed the presence of Pd fcc phase,Pd-Au fcc alloys,carb.n and ATo phases,while Ir phases were not *** micrographs and histograms indicated that the nanoparticles were not well dispersed on the support and some *** cyclic voltammetry and chroamperometry studies showed that PdAuIr/C-Sb.o5·Sno2(50∶45∶5)had superior performance toward formic acid electro-oxidation at 25℃compared to PdAuIr/C-Sb.o5·Sno2(70∶20∶10),PdAuIr/C-Sb.o5·Sno2(90∶5∶5)and Pd/C-Sb.o5·*** experiments in a single DFAFC also showed that all PdAuIr/C-Sb.o5·Sno2electrocatalysts exhib.ted higher performance for formic acid oxidation in comparison with Pd/C-Sb.o5·Sno2electrocatalysts,however PdAuIr/C-Sb.o5·Sno2(90∶5∶5)had superior *** results indicated that the addition of Au and Ir to Pd favor the electro-oxidation of formic acid,which could b. attrib.ted to the b.functional mechanism(the presence of ATo,Au and Ir oxides species)associated to the electronic effect(Pd-Au fcc alloys).

Immediate and late effects of chronic stress in the testes of prepub.rtal and adult rats

The ob.ective of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic stress on the testes of prepub.rtal and adult rats and to evaluate whether any alterations could b. reversed when stress induction is ended. Seventy-six male rats were assigned to eight groups depending on the type of treatment （control or stressed）, the age at which stress was initiated （prepub.rtal or adult）, and the time of evaluation （immediate or late）. Stress stimuli were applied for 6 weeks. Stressed prepub.rtal and adult rats evaluated immediately after the last stress stimulus were included in SP-I and SA-I groups, respectively. The late prepub.rtal （SP-L） and adult （SA-L） groups of stressed rats were evaluated 6 weeks after the last stress stimulus. Age-matched rats were used as controls （CP-I, CA-I, CP-L, and CA-L groups）. Application of stress stimuli to rats in the SP-I group resulted in b.dy weight and seminiferous tub.le diameter reduction. The rats in the SA-I group also showed several functional （testosterone level and sperm parameter） and morphological （testicular weight and seminiferous tub.le diameter） reductions. The rats in the SP-L group showed increased b.dy weight and intertub.lar compartment volumetric and ab.olute densities and reduced tub.lar compartment volumetric density. The rats in the SA-L group presented only reduced sperm viab.lity. Stress stimuli promoted changes in the rats in all the study groups. The testes of the adult rats were the most affected b. chronic stress. However, the stressed adult rats recovered well from the testicular alterations.
