The recent mpox outbreak(in 2022e2023)has different clinical and epidemiological features compared with previous outbreaks of the *** this outbreak,sexual contact was believed to be the primary transmission route of the *** addition,the community of men having sex with men(MSM)was disproportionately affected by the *** population is also disproportionately affected by HIV *** that both diseases can be transmitted sexually,the endemicity of HIV,and the high sexual behavior associated with the MSM community,it is essential to understand the effect of the two diseases spreading simultaneously in an MSM ***,we aim to understand the potential effects of HIV on an mpox outbreak in the MSM *** develop a mechanistic mathematical model of HIV and mpox *** model incorporates the dynamics of both diseases and considers HIV treatment with antiretroviral therapy(ART).In addition,we consider a potential scenario where HIV infection increases susceptibility to mpox,and investigate the potential impact of this mechanism on mpox *** analysis shows that HIV can facilitate the spread of mpox in an MSM population,and that HIV treatment with ART may not be sufficient to control the spread of mpox in the ***,we showed that a moderate use of condoms or reduction in sexual contact in the population combined with ART is beneficial in controlling mpox *** on our analysis,it is evident that effective control of HIV,specifically through substantial ART use,moderate condom compliance,and reduction in sexual contact,is imperative for curtailing the transmission of mpox in an MSM population and mitigating the compounding impact of these intertwined epidemics.

Multispectral images contain a large amount of spatial and spectral data which are effective in identifying change *** feature extraction is important for multispectral image classification and is evolving as an interesting research area in change ***,many deep learning framework based approaches do not consider both spatial and textural details into *** order to handle this issue,a Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)based multi-feature extraction and fusion is introduced which considers both spatial and textural *** method uses CNN to extract the spatio-spectral features from individual channels and fuse them with the textural *** the fused image is classified into change and unchanged *** presence of mixed pixels in the bitemporal satellite images affect the classification accuracy due to the misclassification *** proposed method was compared with six state-of-theart change detection methods and *** main highlight of this method is that by taking into account the spatio-spectral and textural information in the input channels,the mixed pixel problem is *** indicate the effectiveness of this method and demonstrate that it possesses low misclassification errors,higher overall accuracy and kappa coefficient.

Precision measurements of strangeness photoproduction at threshold energies with the Crystal Ball at MAMI-C

The photoproduction of K＋ mesons from the nucleon provides important constraints on the nucleon excitation spectrum and at threshold energies challenges effective field theories based on chiral perturbation in the strange quark sector. Preliminary cross-section measurements for γ（P, K＋）A are presented at an unprecedented beam energy resolution. The data was collected at the MAMI-C facility in Mainz using the Crystal Ball detector. A new method of K＋ detection was used in which the K＋ is tagged from its weak decay products in the detector crystals. This technique has application with other calorimeters at present and future hadron facilities.

The COVId-19 pandemic severely impacted long-term care facilities resulting in the death of approximately 8%of residents nationwide as of March *** COVId-19 case rates declined and state and county restrictions were lifted in spring 2021,facility managers,local and state health agencies were challenged with defining their own policies moving forward to appropriately mitigate disease *** continued emergence of variants of concern and variable vaccineuptake across facilitieshighlighted the need for a readily available tool that can beemployed at the facility-level to determine best practices for mitigation and ensure resident and staff *** assist leadership in determining the impact of various infection surveillance and response strategies,we developed an agent-based model and an online dashboard interface that simulates COVId-19 infection within congregate care settings under various mitigation *** dashboard quantifies the continued risk for COVId-19 infections within a facility given a designated testing schedule and vaccine *** findings were that choice of COVId-19 diagnostic(*** swab qRT-PCR vs rapid antigen)and testing cadence has less impact on attack rate and staff workdays missed than does vaccination rates among staff and ***,low vaccine uptake among staff at long-term care facilities puts staff and residents at risk of ongoing COVId-19 *** we present our model and dashboard as an exemplar of a tool for state public health officials and facility directors to gain insights from an infectious disease model that can directly inform policy decisions in the midst of a pandemic.

The significant rise of ultra-violet(UV) radiation and pathogenic infectious bacteria poses a serious threat to global *** researchers' interests are attracted by novel materials with strong UVblocking ability,antibacterial activity and low toxicity to other *** this case,a simple wet chemical method with different annealing temperatures(400,500,and 600℃) was employed to create highly effective rare earth(Sm)-doped ZnO ***(101) plane of wurtzite ZnO shifts towards a lower angle with increasing annealing temperature,according to the X-ray diffraction(XRd) study findings,which additionally establishes the consequence of lattice *** of doublet peaks of Sm 3d(Sm 3d_(5/2) and Sm 3d_(3/2)) in the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) spectrum clearly validates the substitution of Sm^(3+) ions in the 500℃-annealed *** 500℃-annealed nanorods exhibit combined performances of the wide band gap,improved UV absorbance,and vivid green luminescent emission(563 nm).Additio nally,the nanorods have favorable UV-blocking execution of 96% for UVA at 360 nm,92% for UVB at 320 nm,and 57% for UVC at 225 nm,which is greater than the majority of ZnO-related materials that have been reported up to this *** doping is also appropriate for improving bacterial inhibition against the two studied strains(Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus),in addition to the intriguing features discussed ***,with maximum inhibition zone diameters of 20±0.72 and 18±0.57 mm,respectively,these nanorods exhibit high inhibitory action against *** and *** bacterial *** rare earth-doped material developed during the current experiment,which was annealed at 500℃,could potentially serve as an effective replacement for UV-blocking and antibacterial material,especially for biomedical applications.

The effects of dietary supplementation with mushroom or selenium enriched mushroom powders on the growth performance and intestinal health of post-weaned pigs

Background There is an urgent need to identify natural bioactive compounds that can enhance gastrointestinal health and promote pig growth performance in the absence of pharmacological levels of zinc oxide(ZnO).The objectives of this study were to:1)compare the effects of mushroom powder supplemented with inorganic selenium(inSeMP)to mushroom powder enriched with organic selenium(orgSeMP)to pharmacological levels of ZnO on growth performance and faecal scores(FS)for the first 21 d post-weaning(Period 1);and 2)compare the molecular and microbial effects of inSeMP and orgSeMP in these pigs on d 39 post-weaning(Period 2).Methods In Period 1,pigs(3 pigs/pen;8 pens/treatment)were assigned to:(1)basal diet(control);(2)basal diet+zinc oxide(ZnO)(3100 mg/kg d 1–14,1550 mg/kg d 15–21);(3)basal diet+mushroom powder supplemented with inorganic selenium(inSeMP)containing selenium(selenite)content of 0.3 mg/kg feed;(4)basal diet+mushroom powder enriched with organic selenium(orgSeMP)containing selenium(selenocysteine)content of 0.3 mg/kg *** powders were included at 6.5 g/kg of *** In Period 1,there was no effect of diets on average daily gain(AdG)and gain:feed(G:F)ratio(P>0.05).The orgSeMP supplemented pigs had a lower average daily feed intake(AdFI)compared to all other groups(Pd pigs had reduced FS compared to the basal and mushroom group,while the orgSeMP supplemented pigs had lower FS compared to the basal group during the 21 d experimental period(Pd 2,there was no effect of diets on AdFI,AdG and G:F ratio(P>0.05).The orgSeMP supplementation increased the caecal abundance of bacterial members of the Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes phylum,including Lactobacillus,Agathobacter,Roseburia,and Prevotella and decreased the abundance of Sporobacter compared to the basal group,while inSeMP increased the caecal abundance of Prevotella and decreased the caecal abundance of Sporobacter compared to the basal group(Pdietary

Small Sample Behaviors of the delete-<i>d</i>Cross Validation Statistic

Built upon an iterative process of resampling without replacement and out-of-sample prediction, the delete-d cross validation statistic CV(d) provides a robust estimate of forecast error variance. To compute CV(d), a dataset consisting of n observations of predictor and response values is systematically and repeatedly partitioned (split) into subsets of size n – d (used for model training) and d (used for model testing). Two aspects of CV(d) are explored in this paper. First, estimates for the unknown expected value E[CV(d)] are simulated in an OLS linear regression setting. Results suggest general formulas for E[CV(d)] dependent on σ2 (“true” model error variance), n – d (training set size), and p (number of predictors in the model). The conjectured E[CV(d)] formulas are connected back to theory and generalized. The formulas break down at the two largest allowable d values (d = n – p – 1 and d = n – p, the 1 and 0 degrees of freedom cases), and numerical instabilities are observed at these points. An explanation for this distinct behavior remains an open question. For the second analysis, simulation is used to demonstrate how the previously established asymptotic conditions {d/n → 1 and n – d → ∞ as n → ∞} required for optimal linear model selection using CV(d) for model ranking are manifested in the smallest sample setting, using either independent or correlated candidate predictors.
