We present the structural,morphological and photocatalytic properties of stretchable composites made with carbon nanotubes (CNTs),silicon rubber and Ni@TiO_(2):W nanoparticles(TiWNi NPs) with average size of 37±2 *** images showed that the TiWNi NPs decorated the surface of the CNT fibers,which are oriented in a preferential *** NPs presented a mixture of anatase/rutile phases with cubic *** performance of the TiWNi powders and stretchable composites was evaluated for the photocatalytic degradation of diclofenac (DCF) anti-inflammatory drug under ultraviolet-visible *** results revealed that the maximum DCF degradation percentages were 34.6%,91.9%,97.1%,98.5%and 100%for the CNT composite (stretched at 0%),TiWNi powders,CNT+TiWNi(stretched at 0%),CNT+TiWNi (stretched at 50%) and CNT+TiWNi (stretched at 100%),***,stretching the CNT+TiWNi composites was a good strategy to enhance the DCF degradation percentage from 97.1%to 100%,since stretching created additional defects (oxygen vacancies) that acted as electron sink,delaying the electron-hole recombination,and favors the DCF ***/absorbance measurements confirmed the presence of such ***,the reactive oxygen species (ROS) were determined by the scavenger’s experiments and found that the main ROS were the·OH and O_(2)-radicals,which attacked the DCF molecules,causing their *** results of this investigation confirmed that the stretchable CNT/TiWNi-based composites are a viable alternative to remove pharmaceutical contaminants from water and can be manually separated from the decontaminated water,which is unviable using photocatalytic powders.

Extracting the light trapped in a waveguide,or the opposite effect of trapping light in a thin region and guiding it perpendicular to its incident propagation direction,is essential for optimal energetic performance in illumination,display or light harvesting *** we demonstrate that the paradoxical goal of letting as much light in or out while maintaining the wave effectively trapped can be achieved with a periodic array of interpenetrated fibers forming a photonic fiber *** entering perpendicular to that plate may be trapped in an intermittent chaotic trajectory,leading to an optically ergodic *** fabricated such a photonic fiber plate and showed that for a solar cell incorporated on one of the plate surfaces,light absorption is greatly *** this,we found the unexpected result that a more chaotic photon trajectory reduces the production of photon scattering entropy.

Objective:To assess the efficacy of triclabendazole(TCBZ) in porcine ***:Eighteen naturally infected cysticercotic pigs were divided into 3 groups of 6 individuals *** first group was treated orally with TCBZ at a single dose of 30 mg/kg of body weight,the second group was treated orally with oxfendazole at a single dose of 30 mg/kg of body weight and the third group received a placebo(control group).All animals were kept under the same management *** pigs were euthanized 17 wk post-treatment and the number of surviving cysts in muscles was assessed and compared between ***:All pigs treated with oxfendazole had only degenerated cysts in their *** contrast,TCBZ had very little effect against the parasitic *** from pigs in the TCBZ group looked apparently normal after ***,histological evaluation showed a mild to moderate degree of ***:TCBZ is not an efficacious drug against Taenia solium cysticercosis in swine using a single dose.

Stress urinary incontinence （SUI） and end-stage erectile dysfunction （ED） after radical prostatectomy （RP） can decrease a patient＇s quality of life （QoL）. We describe a surgical technique involving scrotal incision for simultaneous dual implantation of an artificial urinary sphincter （AUS） and an inflatable penile prosthesis （IPP）. Patients with moderate to severe SUI （〉3 pads per day） and end-stage ED following RP were selected for dual implantation. An upper transverse scrotal incision was made, followed by bulbar urethra dissection and AUS cuff placement. Through the same incision, the corpora cavernosa was exposed, and an IPP positioned. Followed by extraperitoneal reservoirs placement and pumps introduced in the scrotum. Short-term, intra- and post-operative complications; continence status and erectile function; and patient satisfaction and QoL were recorded. A total of 32 patients underwent dual implantation. Early AUS-related complications were： AUS reservoir migration and urethral erosion. One case of distal corporal extrusion occurred. No prosthetic infection was reported. Over 96% of patients were socially the continent （≤1 pad per day） and 〉95% had sufficient erections for intercourse. Limitations of the study were the small number of patients, the lack of the control group using a perineal approach for AUS placement and only a 12 months follow-up. IPP and AUS dual implantation using a single scrotal incision technique is a safe and effective option in patients with SUI and ED after RP. Further studies on larger numbers of patients are warranted.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the leading cause of chronic liver disease in the western world(1).Currently,the global prevalence of NAFLD is estimated at 30%and is notably higher in South America and the Middle East(1).NAFLD prevalence has been rising during the last decades,and cases of decompensated NAFLD cirrhosis could increase by 168%in 2030(Figure 1A)(2).These trends are probably explained by several factors including the decrease in viral hepatitis incidence and the increasing prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)among the general population(2).

The 2-oxoglutarate and Fe （ll）-dependent dioxygenase （2OGD） superfamily includes oxidative enzymes with an active site con- taining two histidines and （in most cases） one aspartic or glutamic acid residue. This conserved motif is termed the 2-His-1-carboxylate facial triad, chelates iron, and is housed within a double-stranded β-helix fold, also known as the DSBH, jelly-roll, cupin, or Jumonji C fold （martinez and Hausinger, 2015）. The reactions catalyzed by 2OGDs （also called 2ODDs, 2ODQs, and 2OGXs） include but are not limited to demethylation, demethylenation, hydroxytation, halogenation, desaturation, ring cleavage, ring closure, and epimerization （Farrow and Facchini, 2014）.

BACKGROUND Type 1 diabetes(T1D)is a complex disease with a higher incidence in Europeans than other *** Colombians Living in Medellin(CLM)is admixed with ancestry contributions from Europeans,Native Americans(NAT)and Africans(AFR).AIM Our aim was to analyze the genetic admixture component at candidate T1D loci in Colombian individuals with the *** Seventy-four ancestry informative markers(AIMs),which tagged 41 T1D candidate loci/genes,were tested by studying a cohort of 200 Northwest Colombia diseased individuals.T1D status was classified by testing for glutamic acid decarboxylase(GAD-65 kDa)and protein tyrosine-like antigen-2 autoantibodies in serum *** loci/genes included HLA,INS,PTPN22,CTLA4,IL2RA,SUMO4,CLEC16A,IFIH1,EFR3B,IL7R,NRP1 and RNASEH1,amongst *** 1,000 genome database was used to analyze data from 94 individuals corresponding to the reference *** the data did not comply with a normal distribution,medians were compared between groups using the Mann-Whitney *** Both T1D patients and individuals from CLM displayed mainly European ancestry(61.58 vs 62.06)followed by Native American(27.34 vs 27.46)and to a lesser extent the AFR ancestry(10.28 vs 10.65)***,compared to CLM,ancestry of T1D patients displayed a decrease of NAT ancestry at gene EFR3B(24.30 vs 37.10)and an increase at genes IFIH1(32.07 vs 14.99)and IL7R(52.18 vs 39.18).Also,for gene NRP1(36.67 vs 0.003),we observed a non-AFR contribution(attributed to NAT).Autoimmune patients(positive for any of two auto-antibodies)displayed lower NAT ancestry than idiopathic patients at the MHC region(20.36 vs 31.88).Also,late onset patients presented with greater AFR ancestry than early onset patients at gene IL7R(19.96 vs 6.17).An association analysis showed that,even after adjusting for admixture,an association exists for at least seven such AIMs,with the strongest findings on chromosomes 5 and 10(gene IL7R,P=5.56×10-6 and gene NRP1,P=8.

Understanding the biological parameters of some triatomine subspecies of Meccus phyllosomus （Burmeister） is a crucial first step in estimating the epidemiologie importance of this group. Biological parameters related to hatching, lifetime, number of blood meals to molt, percentage of females at the end of the cycle, number of laid eggs, and mortality for each instar of 3 M. phyllosomus subspecies [M. p. mazzottii （Usinger）, M. p. pallidipennis （Stal）, and M. p. phyllosomus] and their laboratory hybrids were evaluated and compared. No significant differences （P 〉 0.05） were found among the experimental hybrids （MaPa, MaPhy, PaPhy） and reciprocal cohorts. In 5 （hatching, number of blood meals to molt, accumulative mortality, percentage of females, and mean number of laid eggs） of the 6 studied parameters （with the exception of development time）, the hybrid cohorts had better fitness results than the parental cohorts involved in each set of crosses. The increase in hybrid fitness found in our study could lead to an increase in the epidemiologic risks caused by transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi to humans.

AIM: To investigate the role of genes and kinetics of specific transcription factors in liver regeneration, and to analyze the gene expression and the activity of some molecules crucially involved in hepatic regeneration. METHODS: USING gel-shift assay and RT-PCR, transcription factors, such as NF-κB, STAT-3, SMAD3 and AP-1, and gene expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and c-met were analyzed in an animal model of chemically induced hepatectomy. RESULTS: Gene expression of HGF and its receptor c-met peaked at 3 h and 24 h after acute CCl4 intoxi- cation. iNOS expression was only observed from 6 to 48 h. Transcriptional factor NF-κB had an early activation at 30 min after acute liver damage. STAT-3 peaked 3 h post- intoxication, while AP-1 displayed a peak of activation at 48 h. SMAD3 showed a high activity at all analyzed times. CONCLUSION: TNF-α and IL-6 play a central role in hepatic regeneration. These two molecules are responsible for triggering the cascade of events and switch-on of genes involved in cell proliferation, such as growth factors, kinases and cyclins which are direct participants of cell proliferation.
