The sex-biased dispersal and kinship dynamics are important factors shaping the spatial distribution of individuals and are key parameters affecting a variety of ecological and evolutionary ***,we studied the spatial distribution of related individuals within a population of corn mice Calomys musculinus in a seasonal cycle to infer dispersal *** sampling was carried out from spring 2005 to winter 2006 in field borders of intensively managed *** data from 346 individuals with 9 microsatellites showed spatial genetic structure was weak for males,but not for *** results indicate a complex spatial kinship dynamic of related females across all ***,contrary to our expectations,dispersal distances decrease with the increase of the population ***,male dispersal distances were greater when population abundance increased and thus the availability of active *** disperse greater distances to mate and sire offspring with distant females as a possible inbreeding avoidance *** study shows that *** is capable of much greater scattering distances than previously reported and that dispersal occurs fluidly and without barriers across the *** indirect benefit of dispersal on individual fitness could be related to relaxing the competition in the natal area and increasing the mating *** study highlights the value of combining genetic relatedness,fieldwork observations,and behavioral data to estimate dispersal at a fine geographical scale.

In line with recent studies,where it has been shown that nanoﬂuids containing graphene have a stronger capacity to boost the heat transfer coefﬁcient with respect to ordinary nanoﬂuids,experiments have been conducted using water with cobalt ferrite/graphene *** particular,a circular channel made of copper subjected to a constant heatﬂux has been *** nanoparticles are sensitive to the presence of a magneticﬁeld,different conditions have been examined,allowing both the strength and the frequency of such aﬁeld to span relatively wide ranges and assuming different concentrations of *** to theﬁndings,the addition of nanoparticles to theﬂuid causes its rotation speed to increase by a factor of two,whereas ultraviolet radiation plays a negligible *** amount of time required to attain the maximum rotation speed of the nanoﬂuid and the Nusselt number have been measured under both constant and alternating magneticﬁelds for a ferroﬂuid with a concentration of 0.5%and atﬂow Reynolds number of 550 and 1750.

Added benefit of the Early-Morning-Orbit Satellite Fengyun-3E on the Global Microwave Sounding of the Three-Orbit Constellation

The three-orbit constellation can comprehensively increase the spatial coverage of polar-orbiting satellites,but the polar-orbiting satellites currently in operation are only mid-morning-orbit and afternoon-orbit ***-3E(FY-3E)was launched successfully on 5 July 2021 in *** an early-morning-orbit satellite,FY-3E can help form a complete three-orbit observation system together with the mid-morning and afternoon satellites in the current mainstream operational *** this study,we investigate the added benefit of FY-3E microwave sounding observations to the midmorning-orbit Meteorological Operational satellite-b(Met Op-b)and afternoon-orbit Fengyun-3D(FY-3D)microwave observations in the Chinese Meteorological Administration global forecast system(CMA-GFS).The results show that the additional FY-3E microwave temperature sounder-3(MWTS-3)and microwave humidity sounder-2(MWHS-2)data can increase the global coverage of microwave temperature and humidity sounding data by 14.8% and 10.6%,*** enables the CMA-GFS to achieve nearly 100% global coverage of microwave-sounding observations at each analysis ***,after effective quality control and bias correction,the global biases and standard deviations of the differences between observations and model simulations are also *** on the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit A and the Microwave Humidity Sounder onboard Met Op-b,and the MWTS-2 and MWHS-2 onboard FY-3D,adding the microwave sounding data of FY-3E can further reduce the errors of analysis results and improve the global prediction skills of CMA-GFS,especially for the southern-hemisphere forecasts within 96 hours,all of which are significant at the 95% confidence level.

Fast prediction of rain erosion in wind turbine blades using a data-based computational tool

Wind turbines(WTs)face a high risk of failure due to environmental factors like erosion,particularly in high-precipitation areas and offshore *** this paper we introduce a novel computational tool for the fast prediction of rain erosion damage on WT blades that is useful in operation and maintenance decision making *** approach is as follows:Pseudo-Direct Numerical Simulation(P-DNS)simulations of the droplet-laden flow around the blade section profile are employed to build a high-fidelity data set of impact statistics for potential operating *** this database as training data,a machine learning-based surrogate model provides the feature of the impact pattern over the 2-D section for given wind and rain *** this information,a fatigue-based model estimates the remaining lifetime and erosion damage for both homogeneous and coating-substrate blade *** prediction is done by quantifying the accumulated droplet impact energy and evaluating operative conditions over time periods for which the weather at the installation site is *** this work,we describe the modules that compose the prediction method,namely the database creation,the training of the surrogate model and their coupling to build the prediction ***,the method is applied to predict the remaining lifetime and erosion damage to the blade sections of a reference *** evaluate the reliability of the tool,several site locations(offshore,coastal,and inland),the coating material and the coating thickness of the blade are *** few minutes we are able to estimate erosion after many years of *** results are in good agreement with field observations,showing the promise of the new rain erosion prediction approach.

NIR-IIb-triggered photodynamic therapy combined with chemotherapy platform based on rare-earth-doped nanoparticles

Photodynamic therapy(PDT),with high spatiotemporal selectivity,minimal side effects and less drug resistance,has emerged as a promising approach for the treatment of ***,inadequate penetration depth and poor efficacy seriously restrict its practical *** address these challenges,we developed a combined therapy platform(RENP@C/D-FA)based on rare-earth-doped nanoparticles(RENPs)with a structure of NaErF_(4):Tm(0.5%)@NaYF_(4),on which photosensitizer Ce6(chlorin e6)and chemo-therapeutic drug(DOX)(doxorubicin)were loaded by encapsulating with an amphiphilic polymer distearoyl phosphatidylethanolamine-polyethylene glycol-folic acid(DSPE-PEG-FA).RENPs with NaErF_(4) as the matrix possess multiple excitation/emission peaks,enabling activation of PDT under near-infrared-Ⅱb(NIR-Ⅱb,1500-1700 nm)excitation and luminescence imaging in NIR-Ⅱb region by absorbing 808 nm near-infrared ***,DOX can be selectively released in the acidic microenvironment of *** from the tumor targeting capability of folic acid,this platform can successfully ablate tumor cells and inhibit tumor growth by combining PDT and *** innovative approach holds great promise as a powerful tool for cancer treatment,showing the potential to revolutionize PDT.

Gustatory responsiveness in Vespula germanica workers:exploring the interplay between sensory perception and task specialization

Workers'task specialization and division of labor are critical features of social insects'ecological *** has been proposed that the division of labor relies on response threshold models:individuals varying their sensitivity(and responsiveness)to biologically relevant stimuli and performing a specific task when a stimulus exceeds an internal *** this work,we study carbohydrate and protein responsiveness and their relation to worker task specialization in Vespula germanica,an invasive social *** sucrose and peptone responsiveness of two different subcastes,preforagers and foragers,was determined by stimulating the antenna of the wasps with increasing concentrations of the solution and quantifying whether each concentration elicited a licking *** studied responsiveness in five different ways:(1)response threshold,(2)concentration 50(concentration to which at least 50%of wasps responded),(3)maximum response,(4)mean scores and(5)median *** results suggest that V germanica foragers are more sensitive to sucrose(lower thresholds)than preforager ***,we found no differences for peptone thresholds(i.e.,a protein resource).Nonetheless,this is the first study to investigate response thresholds for protein *** intercaste variation in sucrose responsiveness shown in our work contributes to the existing knowledge about response threshold theory as a mechanism for task specialization observed in V germanica.

Lanthanum promoting bone formation by regulating osteogenesis,osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis

With lanthanum(La) in agriculture, medicine, and the chemical industry, La shows accumulation in the body, especially in the bone, because of its similar structure to calcium. Moreover, La has a direct role in bone formation regulating osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Nevertheless, bone formation is complex under the regulation of osteogenesis, osteoclastogenesis, and angiogenesis in the bone microenvironment. It is difficult to comprehensively understand the regulation of bone homeostasis from a single kind of ***, some bone microenvironment-related cells and mouse calvaria culture models were used to study the regulatory effect of La-based compound-lanthanum nitrate(La(NO_(3))_(3)) on bone ***(NO_(3))_(3) has good biological safety, and the osteogenic differentiation is significantly increased under La(NO_(3))_(3) treatment for bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(bMMSC). In contrast, the differentiation,maturation, and bone erosion ability of osteoclasts are significantly decreased. Meanwhile, the angiogenesis ability of human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVEC) is significantly promoted when treated with La(NO_(3))_(3). Furthermore, bone metabolism and angiogenesis are improved under La(NO_(3))_(3) treatment in the calvaria ex vivo culture model and bMMSC-HUVEC co-culture system. These results suggest that La has the beneficial effect of promoting bone metabolism and improving bone formation in the bone microenvironment.

Effects of processing parameters on fabrication defects,microstructure and mechanical properties of additive manufactured Mg–Nd–Zn–Zr alloy by selective laser melting process

Mg–3Nd–0.2Zn–0.4Zr(NZ30K,wt.%)alloy is a new kind of high-performance metallic *** combination of the NZ30K Magnesium(Mg)alloy and selective laser melting(SLM)process seems to be an ideal solution to produce porous Mg degradable ***,the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the SLMed NZ30K Mg alloy were not yet studied ***,the fabrication defects,microstructure,and mechanical properties of the SLMed NZ30K alloy under different processing parameters were *** results show that there are two types of fabrication defects in the SLMed NZ30K alloy,gas pores and unfused *** the increase of the laser energy density,the porosity sharply decreases to the minimum first and then slightly *** minimum porosity is 0.49±0.18%.While the microstructure varies from the large grains with lamellar structure inside under low laser energy density,to the large grains with lamellar structure inside&the equiaxed grains&the columnar grains under middle laser energy density,and further to the fine equiaxed grains&the columnar grains under high laser energy *** lamellar structure in the large grain is a newly observed microstructure for the NZ30K Mg *** laser energy density leads to finer grains,which enhance all the yield strength(YS),ultimate tensile strength(UTS)and elongation,and the best comprehensive mechanical properties obtained are YS of 266±2.1 MPa,UTS of 296±5.2 MPa,with an elongation of 4.9±0.68%.The SLMed NZ30K Mg alloy with a bimodal-grained structure consisting of fine equiaxed grains and coarser columnar grains has better elongation and a yield drop phenomenon.
