Future constructions in the context of the industrial wastelands reuse may be exposed to Vapor Intrusion(VI).VI can be evaluated by combining in-situ measures and analytical models to evaluate exposure risk in future indoor ***,the assumptions in the existing models may reduce their accuracy when they do not meet the characteristics of real *** estimations of indoor concentration levels may lead to inappropriate solutions against *** this context,new semi-empirical models(SEM)are proposed in order to better specify pollution scenarios and thus increase the accuracy of VI *** development is based on a parametric study(numerical CFD)and a dimensionless analysis combined to existing VI models that consider a continuous source distribution in the *** expressions allow to better take into account the source position in the soil(*** and lateral source/building separation),soil properties(air permeability,diffusion coefficient of the pollutant,…)and building features(building foundation,indoor pressure,air exchange rate,…)in the estimation of indoor concentration *** obtained results with the proposed SEM were compared with a numerical CFD model and available experimental data,showing good accuracy in the estimation of *** the advantages of these new models,they can provide better precision in the health risk assessments associated with ***,these expressions can be easily integrated into building ventilation codes allowing to consider air exchange rate and indoor pressure variations over time.

In this paper,we present the Multiscale Finite Element Method(MsFEM)for problems on rough heterogeneous *** consider the diffusion equation on oscillatory *** objective is to represent small-scale features of the solution via multiscale basis functions described on a coarse *** problem arises in many applications where processes occur on surfaces or thin *** present a unified multiscale finite element framework that entails the use of transformations that map the reference surface to the deformed *** main ingredients of MsFEM are(1)the construction of multiscale basis functions and(2)a global coupling of these basis *** the construction of multiscale basis functions,our approach uses the transformation of the reference surface to a deformed *** the deformed surface,multiscale basis functions are defined where reduced(1D)problems are solved along the edges of coarse-grid blocks to calculate nodalmultiscale basis ***,these basis functions are transformed back to the reference *** discuss the use of appropriate transformation operators that improve the accuracy of the *** method has an optimal convergence if the transformed surface is smooth and the image of the coarse partition in the reference configuration forms a quasiuniform *** this paper,we consider such transformations based on harmonic coordinates(following *** and ***[*** and Applied Math.,LX(2007),pp.675-723])and discuss gridding issues in the reference *** results are presented where we compare the MsFEM when two types of deformations are used formultiscale basis *** first deformation employs local information and the second deformation employs a global *** numerical results showthat one can improve the accuracy of the simulations when a global information is used.

Although the term“green leasing”is not yet well defined,its primary purpose is *** an aim to create a collaborative environment through legal provisions between a building owner and a tenant,green leasing may ultimately help resolve the energy paradox in tenanted *** surrounding split-incentives are driven by a mismatch between owners’capital expenditures on improving building energy efficiency and an uncertainty of tenant or occupant behavior that might affect a building’s energy *** some countries have started to develop guidelines promoting the adoption of green leasing,especially in government buildings and commercial real estate,implementation has not been overly successful *** study has two focuses,the first of which is to compare green leasing guidelines from various countries and to suggest six comprehensive categories of green leasing components:management relationships,information sharing,certificates,legal stipulations,financial factors,and *** second core area of research places government-tenanted properties’lease agreement *** goal is to find any evidence in a legal condition between a building owner and a tenant,in this case federal government,to improve building energy efficiency with less environmental impact in the United *** findings of the study indicated 41 out of 400 leases had green *** out of six categories proposed in this study were found in the ***-tenanted properties,while the other three types were not *** findings of this study also suggest categories of green leasing clauses can contribute to defining green leasing and provide empirical evidence of green leasing in government-tenanted ***,this study produces arguments for possible reasoning behind the employment of some green lease categories but the lack of use of others,specifically in the *** market and government-tenanted buildings.

The use of topology optimization in structural design under dynamic excitation is becoming more prevalent in the *** many such applications utilize frequency or time domain formulations,relatively few consider stochastic dynamic *** paper presents an efficient and compact code called TopSTO for structural topology optimization considering stationary stochastic dynamic loading using a method derived from random vibration *** theory,described in conjunction with the implementation in the provided code,is illustrated for a seismically excited *** work demonstrates the efficiency of the approach in terms of both the computational resources and minimal amount of code *** code is intended to serve as a baseline for understanding the theory and implementation of this topology optimization approach and as a foundation for additional applications and developments.

As standard concepts for precision positioning within a machine reach their limits with increasing measurement volumes,inverse concepts are a promising approach for addressing this *** inverse principle entails other limitations,as for high-precision positioning of a sensor head within a large measurement volume,three four-beam interferometers are required in order to measure all necessary translations and rotations of the sensor head and reconstruct the topography of the reference system consisting of fixed mirrors in the x-,y-,and *** present the principle of a passive heterodyne laser interferometer with consequently separated beam paths for the individual heterodyne *** beam path design is illustrated and described,as well as the design of the signal-processing and evaluation algorithm,which is implemented using a System-On-a-Chip with an integrated FPGA,CPU,and A/D converters.A streamlined bench-top optical assembly was set up and measurements were carried out to investigate the remaining ***,reference measurements with a commercial homodyne interferometer were executed.

The classical cancer stem cell(CSCs)theory proposed the existence of a rare but constant subpopulation of *** this model cancer cells are organized hierarchically and are responsible for tumor resistance and tumor ***,eliminating CSCs will eventually lead to cure of *** simplistic model has been challenged by experimental *** 2010 we proposed a novel and controversial alternative model of CSC biology(the Stemness Phenotype Model,SPM).The SPM proposed a non-hierarchical model of cancer biology in which there is no specific subpopulation of CSCs in ***,cancer cells are highly plastic in term of stemness and CSCs and non-CSCs can interconvert into each other depending on the *** model predicts the existence of cancer cells ranging from a pure CSC phenotype to pure non-CSC phenotype and that survival of a single cell can originate a new *** the past 10 years,a plethora of experimental evidence in a variety of cancer types has shown that cancer cells are indeed extremely plastic and able to interconvert into cells with different stemness *** this review we will(1)briefly describe the cumulative evidence from our laboratory and others supporting the SPM;(2)the implications of the SPM in translational oncology;and(3)discuss potential strategies to develop more effective therapeutic regimens for cancer treatment.

Background:Our objective was to identify possible associations between clinical and laboratory variables and the risk of developing acute kidney injury(AKI)in severely injured patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit(ICU)for whom creatine kinase(CK)levels were ***:For this retrospective observational study,we analyzed adult trauma patients admitted to the ICU from 2011 to 2015 at Fundación Valle del Lili(FVL)University *** primary outcome was the incidence of *** regression analysis was used to assess risk factors for this ***:A total of 315 patients were *** trauma mechanisms were blunt(n=130),penetrating(n=66)and blast(n=44)*** median[interquartile range,(IQR)of injury severity score(ISS)was 21(16–29).AKI developed in 75 patients(23.8%).Multivariate regression analysis revealed that the thoracic abbreviated injury scale(AIS)value(median(IQR)in the AKI group:3(0–4)],Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation(APACHE Ⅱ)score[median(IQR)in the AKI group:18(10–27)],CK greater than 5000 U/L,lactic acid concentration at admission,and dobutamine administration were independently associated with ***:We found that age,APACHE Ⅱ score,thoracic trauma,lactic acidosis,and dobutamine administration were independently associated with *** surgeons need to be aware of the increased odds of AKI if one of these factors is identified during the evaluation and treatment of injured patients.
