Melanins represent one of the most ancient and important group of natural macromolecular *** have multiple biological roles in almost all organisms across the Phyla,examples being photoprotection,anti-oxidative action,radical scavenger activity,and heavy metal *** the biomedical point of view,melanocytes are involved in the origin of melanoma tumors,and the main therapeutic advances for their treatment have been revised in Part 1 of this *** chemical structure of eumelanin is a biological concern of great importance,and therefore,exploring theoretical molecular models and synthesis mechanisms will be here described,as well as molecular orbital features and supramolecular organization,which are responsible for the key properties that make these biological pigments so important,and so ***,this updated overview is devoted to describe present structural models and physico-chemical characteristics of eumelanin,in order to explain and utilize melanin properties on which new photothermal and ultrasonic protocols for melanoma treatment can be devised and applied.

Auxin is a key hormonal regulator,that governs plant growth and development in concert with other hormonal *** unique feature of auxin is its polar,cell-to-cell transport that leads to the formation of local auxin maxima and gradients,which coordinate initiation and patterning of plant *** molecular machinery mediating polar auxin transport is one of the important points of interaction with other *** hormonal pathways converge at the regulation of auxin transport and form a regulatory network that integrates various developmental and environmental inputs to steer plant *** this review,we discuss recent advances in understanding the mechanisms that underlie regulation of polar auxin transport by multiple hormonal ***,we focus on the post-translational mechanisms that contribute to fine-tuning of the abundance and polarity of auxin transporters at the plasma membrane and thereby enable rapid modification of the auxin flow to coordinate plant growth and development.

Designing the support system for a deep tunnel in weak rock is always challenging,because a misjudgment of real rock behavior can lead to *** the construction of the Legutiano tunnel,which belongs to the high-speed railway network named Y-Basque in Spain,the measured convergences exhibited large deformations,which were significantly higher than those in the detailed *** first glance,these deformations were associated with squeezing,as the tunnel was excavated in flysch-shales and limonite with a maximum cover of approximately 360 *** aim of this study is to perform a retrofit analysis to compare the most popular empirical and analytical approaches for evaluating the squeezing effect,using geotechnical data pertaining to other tunnels excavated in the same area and in the same geological ***,a non-linear finite element analysis,focusing on time-dependent rock behavior,is conducted to reproduce the convergences measured.

At least 20-40% of annual losses of avocado crops are caused by pathogenic *** chemical treatments of these diseases are inefficient,cause environmental pollution and are increasingly restricted by international *** work aimed to assess the biocontrol capacity of a bacterial extract to protect avocado fruits and plants from pathogen *** from the bacterial isolate Serratia ***5.1 were obtained from liquid fermentations in a biorreactor.A body rot postharvest infection model with Colletotrichum gloeosporioides on fruits was ***,packaging conditions were simulated using the bacterial extract and the commercial fungicide prochloraz as a positive ***,seedlings infections with Phytophthora cinnamomi were performed on two types of avocado(West Indian race and ***).The Area Under Disease Progress Curve(AUDPC) was recorded using the bacterial extract and a commercial product with fosetyl-aluminium as *** bacterial extract significantly reduced infections by *** on injured avocado fruits at 31.1 μg mL^-*** fruits were also protected against body rot infections at the same concentration and showed no significant differences with the commercial *** the other hand,AUDPC in the seedlings was significantly reduced with the extract treatment at 3 μg mL^-1 compared to the ***,a possible phytotoxicity effect of the extract was evidenced in the seedlings and confirmed by pathogen recovery and tests on Raphanus sativus ***,formulations of the extracts(emulsion and emulsifiable concentrate) were prepared,and bioactive stability was assessed for 8 *** emulsion formulates demonstrated very stable bioactivity against *** extract and the emulsion formulate showed promising results for the control of avocado *** bioproducts based on this type of active principles could be developed for the benefit of avocado industry.

Permeable coastal sediments act as a reactive node in the littoral zone,transforming nutrients via a wide range of biogeochemical *** rates are controlled by abiotic factors,e.g.,salinity,temperature or solute ***,a series of incubation experiments,using flow-through reactors,were conducted to simulate the biogeochemical cycling of nitrate (NO_(3)^(-)) and phosphorus(P)in permeable sediments under different NO_(3)^(-) availability conditions(factor I)along a salinity gradient(admixture of river and seawater,factor Ⅱ).In an oligotrophic scenario,i.e.,unamended NO_(3)^(-) concentrations in both river and seawater,sediments acted as a permanent net source of NO_(3)^(-) to the water *** peak production rate occurred at an intermediate salinity(20).IncreasingNO_(3)^(-) availability in river water significantly enhanced netNO_(3)^(-) removal rates within the salinity range of 0 to 30,likely via the denitrification pathway based on the sediment microbiota *** this scenario,the most active removal was obtained at salinity of *** both river and seawater were spiked with NO_(3)^(-),the highest removal rate switched to the highest salinity(36).It suggests the salinity preference of the NO_(3)^(-) removal pathway by local denitrifiers(e.g.,Bacillus and Paracoccus)and that NO_(3)^(-) removal in coastal sediments can be significantly constrained by the dilution related NO_(3)^(-) *** with the obtained variation for NO_(3)^(-) reactions,permeable sediments acted as a sink of soluble reactive P in all treatments,regardless of salinity and NO_(3)^(-) input concentrations,indicating a possibility of P-deficiency for coastal water from the intensive cycling in permeable ***,the net production of dissolved organic carbon(DOC)in all treatments was positively correlated with the measured NO_(3)^(-) reaction rates,indicating that the DOC supply may not be the key factor for NO_(3)^(-) removal rates due

Hepatic encephalopathy(HE) is a neuropsychiatric disorder that commonly complicates the course of patients with liver disease. Despite the fact that the syndrome was probably first recognized hundreds of years ago, the exact pathogenesis still remains unclear. Minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE) is the earliest form of HE and is estimated to affect more that 75% of patients with liver cirrhosis. It is characterized by cognitive impairment predominantly attention, reactiveness and integrative function with very subtle clinical manifestations. The development of MHE is associated with worsen in driving skills, daily activities and the increase of overall mortality. Skeletal muscle has the ability to shift from ammonia producer to ammonia detoxifying organ. Due to its large size, becomes the main ammonia detoxifying organ in case of chronic liver failure and muscular glutaminesynthase becomes important due to the failing liver and brain metabolic activity. Gut is the major glutamine consumer and ammonia producer organ in the body. Hepatocellular dysfunction due to liver disease, results in an impaired clearance of ammonium and in its interorgan trafficking. Intestinal bacteria, can also represent an extra source of ammonia production and in cirrhosis, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and symbiosis can be observed. In the study of HE, to get close to MHE is to get closer to its big bang; and from here, to travel less transited roads such as skeletal muscle and intestine, is to go even closer. The aim of this editorial is to expose this road for further and deeper work.

Recent advances in the study of human hepatocytes derived from induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSC)represent new promises for liver disease study and drug *** hepatocytes or hepatocyte-like cells differentiated from iPSC recapitulate many func-tional properties of primary human hepatocytes and have been demonstrated as a powerful and efficient tool to model human liver metabolic diseases and fa-cilitate drug development *** this review,we summarize the recent progress in this field and discuss the future perspective of the application of human iPSC derived hepatocytes.

We used thermal images of bamboo culms of Guadua angustifolia Kunth to analyze the relationship between culm surface temperature and maturity, driven by the hypothesis that young culms may exhibit lower surface temperatures than old ones. The culm surface temperature shows small but constant differences between three age classes of 1, 2, and 3 years. Our findings indicate that surface temperature may be applied as an additional indi- cator to support the determination of maturity of guadua culms besides the visual assessment of the culms.

The Magdalena River has the greatest length（1612 km）and drainage area（257400 km2）of any river system in Colombia,and its watershed occupies 24%of the Colombian *** river originates in the Andean Cordillera at an elevation of 3685 m and flows to its mouth in the Caribbean Sea（Bocas de Cenizas）.For this study,information on daily flow discharge（Q）,suspended sediment transport(Qsand mean suspended sediment concentration（Cs）from 1990-2010 for the Magdalena River,based on measurements at the Caiamar gauging station（the closest station to the mouth）,was provided by the Institute of Hydrology,Meteorology and Environmental Studies of Colombia（IDEAM in Spanish）.The mean annual suspended sediment load was 169±73×10～6tyr-1for the period from 1990-1999 and145±47×10～6 t yr1for the period from 2000-2010,amounting to a 14%reduction in the suspended sediment transport rate between the two *** sediment rating curve（Qs=aQb）was also evaluated for these two periods（1990-1999 and 2000-2010）.An analysis of the regression coefficients（a.b）for the two periods showed a decrease in b and an increase in a after 1999,which coincides with a decrease in suspended sediment *** change might be attributed to natural factors,including the accumulation of sediment in the Depresion Momposina and variation in hydro-climatological patterns in the Caribbean *** in effective transport were confirmed using three methods（Log-Normal and Normal distribution,and magnitude-frequency histogram）for the study period.
