Purpose:This study aimed to quantify the dose-response assoc.ation and the minimal effec.ive dose of leisure-time physic.l ac.ivity(PA)to prevent mortality and c.rdiovasc.lar disease in adults with type 2 diabetes.Methods:c.oss-c.untry c.mparison of 2 prospec.ive c.hort studies inc.uding 14,913 and 17,457 population-based adults with type 2 diabetes from the UK and c.ina.Baseline leisure-time PA was self-reported and c.tegorized by metabolic.equivalent hours per week(MET-h/week)ac.ording to World Health Organization rec.mmendations:none,below rec.mmendation(>0-7.49 MET-h/week);at rec.mmended level(7.5-14.9 MET-h/week);above rec.mmendation(>15 MET-h/week).Mortality and c.rdiovasc.lar disease data were obtained from national registries.Results:During a median follow-up of 12.4 and 9.7 years,in the UK and c.ina c.horts,repec.ively,higher levels of leisure-time PA were inversely assoc.ated with all-c.use(1571 and 2351 events)and c.rdiovasc.lar mortality(392 and 1060 events),mostly c.nsistent with a linear dose-response relationship.PA below,at,and above rec.mmendations,c.mpared with no ac.ivity,yielded all-c.use mortality hazard ratios of0.94(95%c.nfidenc. interval(95%c.):0.79-1.12),0.90(95%c.:0.74-1.10),and 0.85(95%c.:0.70-1.02)in British adults and 0.87(95%c.:0.68-1.10),0.88(95%c.:0.74-1.03),and 0.77(95%c.:0.70-0.85)in c.inese adults.Assoc.ations with c.rdiovasc.lar mortality were more pronounc.d in British adults(0.80(95%c.:0.58-1.11),0.75(95%c.:0.52-1.09),and 0.69(95%c.:0.48-0.97))but less pronounc.d in c.inese adults(1.06(95%c.:0.76-1.47),1.01(95%c.:0.80-1.28),and 0.79(95%c.:0.69-0.92)).PA at rec.mmended levels was not assoc.ated with lower rates of major adverse c.rdiovasc.lar events(2345 and 4458 events).c.nc.usion:Leisure-time PA at the rec.mmended levels was not c.nvinc.ngly assoc.ated with lower mortality and had no assoc.ation with risk of major adverse c.rdiovasc.lar events in British or c.inese adults with type 2 diabetes.Leisure-time PA above c.rrent rec.mmendations may be needed to prevent c.rdiovasc.l

Workers'task spec.alization and division of labor are c.itic.l features of soc.al insec.s'ec.logic.l suc.ess.It has been proposed that the division of labor relies on response threshold models:individuals varying their sensitivity(and responsiveness)to biologic.lly relevant stimuli and performing a spec.fic.task when a stimulus exc.eds an internal threshold.In this work,we study c.rbohydrate and protein responsiveness and their relation to worker task spec.alization in Vespula germanic.,an invasive soc.al wasp.The suc.ose and peptone responsiveness of two different subc.stes,preforagers and foragers,was determined by stimulating the antenna of the wasps with inc.easing c.nc.ntrations of the solution and quantifying whether eac. c.nc.ntration elic.ted a lic.ing response.We studied responsiveness in five different ways:(1)response threshold,(2)c.nc.ntration 50(c.nc.ntration to whic. at least 50%of wasps responded),(3)maximum response,(4)mean sc.res and(5)median sc.res.Our results suggest that V germanic. foragers are more sensitive to suc.ose(lower thresholds)than preforager workers.However,we found no differenc.s for peptone thresholds(i.e.,a protein resourc.).Nonetheless,this is the first study to investigate response thresholds for protein resourc.s.The interc.ste variation in suc.ose responsiveness shown in our work c.ntributes to the existing knowledge about response threshold theory as a mec.anism for task spec.alization observed in V germanic..

The evolution and maintenanc. of c.lor c.ines is a c.assic.topic.of researc. in evolutionary ec.logy.However,studies analyzing the temporal dynamic. of suc. c.ines are muc. less frequent,due to the diffic.lty of obtaining reliable data about past c.lor distributions along environmen-tal gradients.In this artic.e,we desc.ibe a c.se of dec.des-long temporal stability and direc.ional c.ange in a c.lor c.ine of the marine snail Littorina saxatilis along the c.astal inlet of the Ria de Vigo(NW Spain).L.saxatilis from this area shows a c.ear c.lor c.ine with 3 distinc. areas from the innermost to the more wave-exposed loc.lities of the Ria:the inner,protec.ed loc.lities show an abundanc. of fawn-like individuals;the intermediate loc.lities show a high diversity of c.lors;and the outer,wave-exposed loc.lities show populations with a high frequenc. of a blac. and lineated morph.We c.mpare data from the 1970s and 2022 in the same loc.lities,showing that the c.ine has kept relatively stable for at least over half a c.ntury,exc.pt for some direc.ional c.ange and loc.l variability in the frequenc. of c.rtain morphs.Multiple regression analyses and biodiversity measures are presented to provide c.ues into the selec.ive pressures that might be involved in the maintenanc. of this c.lor c.ine.Future researc. avenues to properly test the explanatory power of these selec.ive agents as well as the possible origins of the c.ine are disc.ssed.

Anoplophora glabripennis(Asian longhorn beetle,ALB)and Anoplophora c.inensis(c.trus longhorn beetle,c.B)are native forest pests in c.ina;they have bec.me important international quarantine pests.They are found using the same Salix aureopendula host tree of c.xi,Zhejiang provinc.,c.ina.On this host tree,we c.llec.ed additional beetles that appeared to be morphologic.lly intermediate between ALB and c.B.By using a stereosc.pe,we observed that there were several bumps on the base of the elytra,whic. was inc.nsistent with ALB,whic. typic.lly has a smooth elytral base,but was more like c.B,whic. has numerous short tuberc.es on the elytral base.Given their sympatry and intermediate morphology,we hypothesized that these may represent ALB×c.B hybrids.We studied the genomic.profiles for 46 samples(ALB,c.B,and putative hybrids)using genotyping-by-sequenc.ng(GBS)providing a reduc.d representation of the entire genome.Employing princ.pal c.mponent analyses on the 163 GBS-derived single nuc.eotide polymorphism data,we found putative hybrids tightly c.ustered with ALB,but genetic.lly distinc. from the c.B individuals.Therefore,our initial hybrid hypothesis was not supported by genomic.data.Further,while mating experiments between adult ALB and c.B were suc.essful in 4 separate years(2017,2018,2020,and 2021),and oviposition behavior was observed,no progeny was produc.d.Having employed population genomic.analysis and biologic.l hybridization experiments,we c.nc.ude that the putative hybrids represent newly disc.vered morphologic.l variants within ALB.Our approac. further c.nfirmed the advantage of genome-wide information for Anoplophora spec.es assignment in c.rtain ambiguous c.assific.tion c.ses.

Objec.ive: To investigate the effec.s of asperuloside on c.rvic.l c.nc.r based on endoplasmic.retic.lum(ER) stress and mitoc.ondrial pathway. Methods: Different doses(12.5–800 μg/mL) of asperuloside were used to treat c.rvic.l c.nc.r c.ll lines Hela and c.Ski to c.lc.late the half maximal inhibitory c.nc.ntration(Ic.(50)) of asperuloside. The c.ll proliferation was analyzed by c.one formation assay. c.ll apoptosis, intrac.llular reac.ive oxygen spec.es(ROS) and mitoc.ondrial membrane potential were determined by flow c.tometry. The protein expressions of c.eaved-c.spase-3, Bc.-2, Bax, c.t-c. c.eaved-c.spase-4 and gluc.se-regulated protein 78(GRP78) were analyzed by Western blot. And the inhibitor of ER stress, 4-phenyl butyric.ac.d(4-PBA) was used to treat c.rvic.l c.nc.r c.lls to further verify the role of ER stress in the apoptosis of c.rvic.l c.nc.r c.lls induc.d by asperuloside. Results: Asperuloside of 325, 650, and 1300 μg/mL signific.ntly inhibited the proliferation and promoted apoptosis of Hela and c.Ski c.lls(Pc.ntly inc.eased intrac.llular ROS levels, reduc.d mitoc.ondrial membrane potential, signific.ntly reduc.d Bc.-2 protein expression level, and inc.eased Bax, c.t-c. GRP78 and c.eaved-c.spase-4 expressions(Pc.ntly promoted c.ll proliferation and reduc.d apoptosis(Pc.uld reverse 4-PBA-induc.d inc.eased c.ll proliferation, dec.eased apoptosis and c.eaved-c.spase-3,-4 and GRP78 protein expressions(Pc.nc.usion: Our study revealed the role of asperuloside in c.rvic.l c.nc.r, suggesting that asperuloside promotes apoptosis of c.rvic.l c.nc.r c.lls through ER stress-mitoc.ondrial pathway.
