Predicting the properties of two-dimensional （2D） materials as graphene and hexagonal boron nitride （h-BN） monolayers after their growth on any given substrate is a major challenge. While the influence of the electron configuration of the atoms of the underlying surface is well-understood, the effect of substrate geometry still remains unclear. The structural properties of h-BN monolayers grown on a rectangularly packed Rh（110） surface were characterized in situ by ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy and were compared to those that this material exhibits when grown on substrates showing different crystallographic orientations. Although the h-BN monolayer grown on Rh（110） was dominated by a unique quasiunidimensional moir6 pattern, suggesting considerable interface interaction, the moir6 corrugation was unexpectedly smaller than those reported for strongly interacting interfaces with hexagonal-terminated substrates, owing to differences in the possible binding landscapes at interfaces with differently oriented substrates. Moreover, a rule was derived for predicting how interface corrugation and the existence and extent of subregions within moir6 supercells containing favorable sites for orbital mixing between h-BN monolayers and their supports depend on substrate symmetry. These general symmetry considerations can be applied to numerous 2D materials, including graphene, thereby enabling the prediction of how substrate choice determines the properties of these materials. Furthermore, they could also provide new routes for tuning 2D material properties and for developing nanotemplates showing different geometries for Krowing adsorbate superlattices.

In this paper we present the design and prototyping of an arithmetic processor based on reconfigurable technology, whose purpose is to determine in a parallel manner the quality of the solution in a radio network design optimization problem. This problem consists in the search for an optimal set of locations in which to place radio antennas in order to obtain the maximum possible coverage, for a given terrain and antenna characteristics. The original computational contribution of this work is to use programmable logic devices to avoid the high cost of computing the evolutionary algorithms required to tackle this optimization problem. This is achieved by means of reconfigurable processors working in parallel. On the basis of the results obtained from the prototype, it may be considered a parallel architecture capable of achieving a great acceleration in the calculations.

In this work, the crystal structure of titanium dioxide was studied, and the effect of the different synthesis routes on the microstructure and morphology of the nanostructures was analyzed. Samples characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction by powders (XRD) to determine the different crystalline phases contented in the samples and using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the morphology and topology of all samples were studied. XRD results were analyzed through Eva provided by Bruker to determine the average crystallite size. The results portrayed here showed that all the synthesis process produced anatase nanostructures with an average crystallite size smaller than 27 nm. Synthesized powders presented similar morphologies in all cases and they were homogeneous in their chemical composition.

Objective To determine whether topical applications of thiosulfinate-enriched Allium sativum extract(TASE)can accelerate acute cutaneous wound healing(WH)in a murine *** Keratinocyte viability and in vitro wound closure were assessed in keratinocyte *** of topical TASE(0.5μg/mL of allicin in 97%ethanol)on acute cutaneous WH were determined in a murine model of acute cutaneous *** mice were alternately assigned to the vehicle-and TASE-treated groups(n=6 per group).Expression levels of mRNA for keratinocyte differentiation marker-related proteins(filaggrin,loricrin and involucrin)and lipid synthetic enzymes(elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 4(ELOVL4),fatty acid synthase(FA2H),3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase(HMGCoA),and serine palmitoyltransferase(SPT))were assessed using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction on day 3 and 8 after wounding,while transepidermal water loss(TEWL)rates were measured in wounded *** TASE accelerated WH both in vivo(40%vs.22%reduction in wound area,P<0.01)and in vitro(90%vs.65%reduction in wound area,P<0.01).Moreover,topical applications of TASE upregulated the expression levels of epidermal mRNA for ELOVL4,HMGCoA,SPT,filaggrin,loricrin and involucrin(P<0.05 ***-treated controls)on day 3 after ***,TASE significantly lowered TEWL rates in comparison with vehicle alone on day 8(33.06±2.09 g/(m^2·h)vs.24.60±2.04 g/(m^2·h),P<0.01).Conclusions Topical applications of TASE stimulated keratinocyte proliferation and formation of epidermal permeability barrier function,leading to acceleration of acute cutaneous *** products containing TASE could be used to manage acute cutaneous WH.

Echinococcal cysts are usually found in liver and lungs, but any other organ can potentially be involved. Extrahepatic disease due to hydatid cyst may develop in the abdominal and pelvic cavity, aside from in other less common locations, which may make both diagnosis and treatment more complex. We present a rare case of extrahepatic echinococcosis in a 70-year old patient with a 4-d history of dull abdominal pain, anemia within the transfusion range and fever. She underwent surgery for left renal hydatid cysts 30 years ago. After non operative treatment, imaging studies showed a calcified hydatid cyst in a retrogastric location communicating with a proximal jejunal loop. En-block resection of the mass together with the adrenal gland was performed including closure of the enteric fistula. Anatomic pathology confirmed the diagnosis of a calcified hydatid cyst of left adrenal origin. Surgery is the treatment of choice and most authors recommend removal of cyst and adrenal gland.

Background: IgG4-related disease is a rare autoimmune condition that presents with lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate and fibrosis in the organ affected. Isolated testicle involvement is uncommon and there are only a few cases reported in the literature. Case Presentation: We report a case of isolated chronic orchitis due to IgG4 hypersecretion in a 61-year-old patient that evolved with asymptomatic tumor-like mass growth and was treated with left orchiectomy. Histopathological study revealed orchitis related to IgG4 hypersecretion disease. Conclusion: IgG4-related disease can be manifested as a multi or single-organ disorder. Most diagnoses are made after surgery with histopathological analysis. Most of the cases in literature stand out the difficulty in diagnosis and necessity of high suspicion due to this condition’s similarity with neoplasm presentation.

AIM To develop a fast, low-cost diagnostic strategy to identify single point mutations in highly variable genomes such as hepatitis C virus(HCV).METHODS In patients with HCV infection, resistance-associated amino acid substitutions within the viral quasispecies prior to therapy can confer decreased susceptibility to direct-acting antiviral agents and lead to treatment failure and virological relapse. One such naturally occurring mutation is the Q80 K substitution in the HCV-NS3 protease gene, which confers resistance to PI inhibitors, particularly simeprevir. Low-cost, highly sensitive techniques enabling routine detection of these single point mutations would be useful to identify patients at a risk of treatment failure. Light Cycler methods, based on real-time PCR with sequencespecific probe hybridization, have been implemented in most diagnostic laboratories. However, this technique cannot identify single point mutations in highly variable genetic environments, such as the HCV genome. To circumvent this problem, we developed a new method to homogenize all nucleotides present in a region except the point mutation of interest. RESULTS Using nucleotide-specific probes Q, K, and R substitutions at position 80 were clearly identified at a sensitivity of 10%(mutations present at a frequency of at least 10% were detected). The technique was successfully applied to identify the Q80 K substitution in 240 HCV G1 serum samples, with performance comparable to that of direct Sanger sequencing, the current standard procedure for this purpose. The new method was then validated in a Catalonian population of 202 HCV G1-infected individuals. Q80 K was detected in 14.6% of G1 a patients and 0% of G1 b in our setting. CONCLUSION A fast, low-cost diagnostic strategy based on real-time PCR and fluorescence resonance energy transfer probe melting curve analysis has been successfully developed to identify single point mutations in highly variable genomes such as hepatitis C virus. With defined culture protocol, human embryonic stem cells （hESCs） are able to generate cardiomyocytes in vitro, therefore providing a great model for human heart development, and holding great potential for car- diac disease therapies. In this study, we successfully generated a highly pure population of human cardio- myocytes （hCMs）（〉95% cTnT＋） from hESC line, which enabled us to identify and characterize an hCM-specific signature, at both the gene expression and DNA meth- ylation levels. Gene functional association network and gene-disease network analyses of these hCM-enriched genes provide new insights into the mechanisms of hCM transcriptional regulation, and stand as an informative and rich resource for investigating cardiac gene func- tions and disease mechanisms. Moreover, we show that cardiac-structural genes and cardiac-transcription fac- tors have distinct epigenetic mechanisms to regulate their gene expression, providing a better understandingof how the epigenetic machinery coordinates to regulate gene expression in different cell types.
