Novel method of primary endoscopic realignment for high-grade posterior urethral injuries:A case report

BACKGROUND A male urethral disruption injury is a urological *** endoscopic realignment(PER)refers to reestablishment of urethral alignment via indwelling urethral catheter by cystoscope,which is recommended as the optimal emergent treatment approach for reducing the likelihood of complications following ***,the prior literature suggests the success rate of PER to be relatively low due to complicated urethral *** report a modified PER approach that serves to improve both the success rate and safety of the *** SUMMARY A 19-year-old male patient presented with multiple pelvic fractures and complete urethral disruption following a high-velocity traffic *** patient’s abdominal computed tomography and retrograde urethrography results revealed complete urethral disruption at the bulbar urethra,with hematoma and contrast medium extravasation that extended into the extraperitoneal *** conventional retrograde PER by cystoscope failed due to severe disruption and considerable *** simultaneous antegrade and retrograde PER was performed by means of semi-rigid ureteroscopy via a suprapubic Foley catheter and cystoscopy via the external *** antegrade guidewire was passed through the bladder neck and then pulled out through the external urethral meatus with a *** continuity was achieved after a 16-Fr silicone Foley catheter was indwelled into the bladder along the *** patient recovered well,achieving voiding continence and avoiding further operation for urethral *** Modified PER via suprapubic Foley catheter represents a promising and safe treatment approach in patients with posterior urethral injuries.

Electromagnetic Form Factors of Λ Hyperon in the Vector Meson Dominance Model and a Possible Explanation of the Near-Threshold Enhancement of the e^(+)e^(-)→ ΛΛ Reaction

The near-threshold e^(+)e^(-)→ΛΛ reaction is studied with the assumption that the production mechanism is due to a near-ΛΛ-threshold bound state. The cross section of the e^(+)e^(-)→ΛΛ reaction is parameterized in terms of the electromagnetic form factors of Λ hyperon, which are obtained with the vector meson dominance *** is shown that the contribution to the e^(+)e^(-)→ΛΛ reaction from a new narrow state with quantum numbersJ~(PC)= 1--is dominant for energies very close to threshold. The mass of this new state is around 2231 Me V,which is very close to the mass threshold of ΛΛ, while its width is just a few Me V. This gives a possible solution to the problem that all previous calculations seriously underestimated the near-threshold total cross section of the e^(+)e^(-)→ΛΛ reaction. We also note that the near-threshold enhancement can also be reproduced by including these well established vector resonances ω(1420), ω(1650), Φ(1680), or Φ(2170) with a Flatté form for their total decay width, and a strong coupling to the ΛΛ channel.

Effect of Calcium Oxide Additive on the Performance of Iron Oxide Sorbent for High-Temperature Coal Gas Desulfurization

The effect of calcium oxide additive in iron oxide sorbent for hot gas desulfurization was investigated by XRD and TPR *** characterization showed that CaO was highly dispersed after the calcination of *** sulfate formed in the desulfurization was decomposed and regenerated to CaO by reacting with CO before the next sulfidation *** participated in every sulfidation/regeneration cycle and contributed to the enhancement of sulfur *** TPR results showed that the reduction temperature of the sorbent increased with the increase of the content of *** played a role of retarding ***,the addition of calcium oxide additive will benefit the utilization of iron oxide sorbent in strongly reducing atmospheres.

Probabilistic hypergraph based hash codes for social image search

With the rapid development of the Internet, recent years have seen the explosive growth of social media. This brings great challenges in performing efficient and accurate image retrieval on a large scale. Recent work shows that using hashing methods to embed high-dimensional image features and tag information into Hamming space provides a powerful way to index large collections of social images. By learning hash codes through a spectral graph partitioning algorithm, spectral hashing(SH) has shown promising performance among various hashing approaches. However, it is incomplete to model the relations among images only by pairwise simple graphs which ignore the relationship in a higher order. In this paper, we utilize a probabilistic hypergraph model to learn hash codes for social image retrieval. A probabilistic hypergraph model offers a higher order repre-sentation among social images by connecting more than two images in one hyperedge. Unlike a normal hypergraph model, a probabilistic hypergraph model considers not only the grouping information, but also the similarities between vertices in hy-peredges. Experiments on Flickr image datasets verify the performance of our proposed approach.

Progress on deep circulation and meridional overturning circulation in the South China Sea

The deep overflow through the Luzon Strait drives the cyclonic deep circulation in the South China Sea(SCS). In the mean time, the intruding Pacific deep water transforms and upwells due to enhanced diapycnal mixing in the SCS. Both processes greatly contribute to the SCS meridional overturning circulation(SCSMOC). At the same time, both the deep circulation and meridional overturning circulation are modulated by rough topography in the SCS. Furthermore, the spatial structure of the SCSMOC infers a link between the upper-layer circulation and deep circulation in the SCS. This paper reviews recent advances in the SCS deep circulation and meridional overturning circulation, including the driving mechanism of the SCS deep circulation and its modulation by topography, as well as the spatial structure of the SCSMOC and its dynamical mechanism.

Neuroprotective effects of flavonoids extracted from licorice on kainate-induced seizure in mice through their antioxidant properties

A relationship between status epilepticus(SE)and oxidative stress has recently begun to be *** explore whether the flavonoids extracted from licorice(LFs)have any protective effect on kainate(KA)-induced seizure in mice,we treated mice with LFs before and after KA *** KA-treated mice,we found that superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity decreased immediately after the onset of seizure at 1 h and then increased at 6 *** returned to baseline 1 d after seizure and then increased again at 3,7,and 28 d,while malondialdehyde(MDA)content remained at a high level at 1 h,6 h,3 d,7 d,and 28 d,indicating a more oxidized status related to the presence of more reactive oxygen species(ROS).Treatment with LFs before KA injection reversed the seizure-induced change in SOD activity and MDA content at 1 h,6 h,3 d,7 d,and 28 *** with LFs after seizure decreased KA-induced SOD activity and MDA content at 7 and 28 ***,LF pre-and post-KA treatments decreased seizure-induced neuronal cell ***,Morris water maze tests revealed that the escape latency was significantly decreased and the number of target quadrant crossings was markedly increased in the LF-treated ***,our data indicate that LFs have protective effects on seizure-induced neuronal cell death and cognitive impairment through their anti-oxidative effects.

A cross-layer design approach on spectrum allocation and resource scheduling in cognitive PMP networks

We propose the spectrum allocation and resource scheduling algorithms in cognitive point to multipoint (PMP) networks with rapid changes of spectrum opportunities and present a media access control (MAC) protocol based on these algorithms. The objective of spectrum allocation is to make efficient use of the spectrum while maintaining the transceiver synchronization on frequency and time in the network. The objective of resource scheduling is to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) requirements of different kinds of connections and to minimize the total energy consumption in the network as well. By sensing only a small set of possible channels in each slot based on the state transition probability of each channel, our spectrum allocation algorithm achieves high spectrum efficiency in the network. The resource scheduling problem is divided into three sub problems and we derive optimal solutions to these problems by greedy algorithm and convex optimization. The simulation results show that our algorithm can make efficient use of the spectrum and the network resources at a cost of low computational complexity.

Efficient and selective recovery of Ni, Cu, and Co from low-nickel matte via a hydrometallurgical process

Low-nickel matte was intensively characterized, and Ni, Cu, and Co were determined to exist mainly as (Fe,Ni)9S8and FeNi3, Cu5FeS4, and (Fe,Ni)9S8and Fe3O4(in isomorphic form), respectively. The efficient and selective extraction of Ni, Cu, and Co from the low-nickel matte in an (NH4)2S2O8/NH3·H2O solution system was studied. The effects of (NH4)2S2O8and NH3·H2O concentrations, leaching time, and leaching temperature on the metal extraction efficiency were systematically investigated. During the oxidative ammonia leaching process, the metal extraction efficiencies of Ni 81.07%, Cu 93.81%, and Co 71.74% were obtained under the optimal conditions. The relatively low leaching efficiency of Ni was mainly ascribed to NiFe alloy deactivation in ammonia solution. By introducing an acid pre-leaching process into the oxidative ammonia leaching process, we achieved the high extraction efficiencies of 98.03%, 99.13%, and 85.60% for the valuable metals Ni, Cu, and Co, respectively, from the low-nickel matte. © 2017, University of Science and Technology Beijing and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
