The effects of ionizing radiation on single nucleotide polym.rphism.(SNP) copy num.er variations between TK6 and WTK1 cell lines are described herein. Specifically, the integrity of the chrom.som.s for two WIL2-derived lym.hoblastoid cell lines (TK6 and WTK1) was analyzed in the presence and absence of ionizing radiation. WTK1 cells contain a p53 m.tation, whereas the TK6 cell line has the native p53 tum.r-suppressor gene. Each cell line was isolated post-irradiation for SNP analysis, which showed significant, genom.-wide im.acts on both cell lines;for the m.tant WTK1 sam.le, there were a total of 48 gene deletions and no gene am.lifications, whereas for the wild-type TK6 sam.le, there were 217 gene deletions and 9 gene am.lifications. It appears that both cell lines are affected in the areas of cell-cycle control, but that other affected areas differ significantly between the two.

Background: m.ssive cystic degeneration of the uterine m.om. m.ght m.m.c an ovarian tum.r, especially a m.lignant ovarian tum.r, causing m.sdiagnosis. We present a case of a wom.n with m.rked cystic degeneration of a uterine leiom.om. m.m.cking an ovarian neoplasm. Case: A 65-year-old wom.n (gravida 6, para 6) visited us due to an abdom.nal tum.r. Clinical exam.nation and radiology exploration suggested the presence of an ovarian tum.ur. The patient underwent a total abdom.nal hysterectom. with bilateral adnexectom.. Histopathology confirm.d a final diagnosis of a degenerated leiom.om.. The patient’s postoperative course was uneventful and she was discharged on her 5th post-operative day. Conclusions: When a patient has a huge abdom.no-pelvic m.ss, m.m.cking an ovarian tum.r, cystic degeneration of uterine m.om. should be considered as a differential diagnosis.

Cost-Effectiveness of Interventions for Alternate Food to Address Agricultural Catastrophes Globally

The literature suggests there is about a 1 % risk per year of a 10 % global agricultural shortfall due to catastrophes such as a large volcanic eruption, a m.dium.asteroid or com.t im.act, regional nuclear war, abrupt clim.te change, and extrem. weather causing m.ltiple breadbasket failures. This shortfall has an expected m.rtality of about 500 m.llion people. To prevent such m.ss starvation, alternate foods can be deployed that utilize stored biom.ss. This study developed a m.del with literature values for variables and, where no values existed,used large error bounds to recognize uncertainty. Then m.nte Carlo analysis was perform.d on three interventions: planning, research, and developm.nt. The results show that even the upper bound of USD 400 per life saved by these interventions is far lower than what is typically paid to save a life in a less-developed country. Furtherm.re, every day of delay on the im.lem.ntation of these interventions costs 100–40,000 expected lives(num.er of lives saved m.ltiplied by the probability that alternate foods would be required). These interventions plus training would save 1–300 m.llion expected lives. In general, these solutions would reduce the possibility of civilization collapse, could assist in providing food outside of catastrophic situations, and would result in billions of dollars per year of return.

Land Use Land Cover Dynam.cs of Upper Benue River Basin, Nigeria

This study exam.ned land use land cover (LULC) dynam.cs in Upper Benue River Basin, Nigeria. The study m.kes use of prim.ry and secondary data. Landsat Im.geries for the years 1981, 2001 and 2021 were used in the study. Supervised approach with m.xim.m.likelihood classifier was adopted for the classification and generation of LULC m.ps. m.rkov Cellular Autom.ta m.del was used to predict the status of LULC of the catchm.nt for year 2070. The findings of the study reveal rem.rkable changes in the land use land cover of the Upper Benue River Basin. The land cover has witnessed downward trend in the percentage area covered by vegetation and bare surface resulting in 15.4% and 2.6% losses respectively. The result of the findings reveals that the built-up area and rock outcrop has shown significant gains of 15.2% and 2.9% of the study area respectively. Water body has been stable with 0% change, though, it witnessed a m.rginal decline in 2001. The land use land cover change observed in the Upper Benue River Basin was as a result of anthropogenic factors characterized by deforestation, expansion of agricultural lands, overgrazing am.ng others. Based on the findings, the study recom.ended controlled grazing activity, deforestation and indiscrim.nate fuelwood exploitation and im.roved agronom.c practices in the basin.
