Geochemical Characterization of Base Metals in Stream w.ter and Sediments in the Caddo Lake w.tershed, Cass, Harrison and Marion Counties, Texas

The Caddo Lake w.tershed is located in northeastern Texas and encompasses much of Cass, Harrison, and Marion counties. The w.tershed is drained by major streams and tributaries flow.ng in an easterly direction over Eocene-aged rocks and sediments of the w.lcox and Claiborne groups, and empty into the w.stern arm of Caddo Lake. Since 1995, Caddo Lake and some of its tributaries have been included on the State of Texas Clean w.ter Act 303(d) list by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for impairment due to mercury content in edible tissue, depressed dissolved oxygen, base metal concentrations, and low.pH values. The purpose of this multi-year study w.s to characterize base metal concentrations in stream w.ter and sediments in the Caddo Lake w.tershed, and document the potential w.tershed transport and contribution to the impairment of Caddo Lake. Recent w.ter (n = 58) and sediment (n = 116) sampling at 29 sites revealed copper, lead, and zinc concentrations w.thin normal limits and below.EPA actionable standards. Mercury concentrations w.re elevated at 21 of the 29 sampling sites, w.ich could lead to methylation and bioavailability to organisms at all trophic level.

Molecular Docking of Selective Binding Affinity of Sulfonamide Derivatives as Potential Antimalarial Agents Targeting the Glycolytic Enzymes: GAPDH, Aldolase and TPI

The parasite Plasmodium falciparum is responsible for the major w.rld scourge malaria, a disease that affects 3.3 billion people w.rldw.de. The development of new.drugs is critical because of the diminished effectiveness of current antimalarial agents mainly due to parasitic resistance, side effects and cost. Molecular docking w.s used to explore structural motifs responsible for the interactions betw.en triose phosphate isomerase (TPI), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and aldolase (ALD) from human and Plasmodium cells w.th 8 novel sufonylamide derivatives. All the ligands modeled, interact w.th all three enzymes in the micromolar range. The top ligand (sulfaE) show. a 70-fold increase in selective binding to pfTPI compared to hTPI (dissociation constant-KI of 7.83 μM and 0.177 μM for hTPI and pfTPI respectively), on par w.th antimalarial drug *** and GAPDH form complexes w.th similar binding sites, comprising amino acids of similar chemical properties and polarities. Human TPI and pfTPI bind sulfonamide derivatives using tw. distinct binding sites and residues. Key residues at the dimer interface of pfTPI (VAL44, SER45, TYR48, GLN64, ASN65, VAL78) form a tight pocket w.th favorable polar contacts. The affinity w.th TPI is the most specific, stable, and selective suggesting pfTPI is a candidate for development of antimalarial drugs.

目的评价舒更葡糖钠用于ASA分级Ⅲ或Ⅳ级高风险手术患者术后拮抗神经肌肉阻滞的安全性。尤其着重评估了心脏不良事件以及其他预先指定的临床关注不良事件的影响。方法符合ASA分级Ⅲ或Ⅳ级标准的患者,根据ASA分级和神经肌肉阻滞剂(罗库溴铵或维库溴铵)进行随机分组,新斯的明/格隆溴铵组:中度神经肌肉阻滞;舒更葡糖钠2 mg/kg组,中度神经肌肉阻滞;舒更葡糖钠4 mg/kg组,深度神经肌肉阻滞;舒更葡糖钠16 mg/kg组,深度神经肌肉阻滞(仅罗库溴铵)。主要研究终点包括治疗期间窦性心动过缓、窦性心动过速和其他心律失常的发生情况。结果344例患者进入随机化分配,331例患者接受了治疗[61%为男性,BMI(28.5±5.3)kg/m^(2),年龄(69±11)岁]。舒更葡糖钠2 mg/kg组治疗期间窦性心动过缓发生率显著降低,舒更葡糖钠2 mg/kg组和4 mg/kg组治疗期间窦性心动过速发生率显著降低(P0.05)。结论ASA分级Ⅲ或Ⅳ级高风险手术患者使用舒更葡糖钠拮抗罗库溴铵或维库溴铵诱导的中度和深度神经肌肉阻滞的安全性良好。

BACKGROUND: Healthcare professionals have a duty to maintain basic life support(BLS) skills. This study aims to evaluate medical students' factual know.edge of BLS and the training they ***: A cross-sectional, closed-response questionnaire w.s distributed to the fi rst-and fourth-year students studying at institutions in the United Kingdom. The paper questionnaire sought to quantify respondent's previous BLS training, factual know.edge of the BLS algorithm using five multiple choice questions(MCQs), and valuate their desire for further BLS training. Students received 1 point for each correctly identifi ed answ.r to the 5 MCQ'***: A total of 3,732 complete responses w.re received from 21 medical schools. Eighty percent(n=2,999) of students completed a BLS course as part of their undergraduate medical studies. There w.s a signifi cant difference(Pw.r in all the MCQ's compared to the fi rst-year students except in identifyingthe correct depth of compressions required during CPR(P=0.095). Overall 10.3%(95% CI 9.9% to 10.7%) of respondents correctly identified the answ.r to 5 MCQ's on BLS: 9% of the first-year students(n=194) and 12% of the fourth-year students(n=190). On an institutional level the proportion of students answ.ring all MCQ's correctly ranged from 2% to 54% at different universities. Eighty-one percent of students(n=3,031) w.shed for more BLS training in their ***: Factual know.edge of BLS is poor among medical students in the UK. There is a disparity in standards of know.edge across institutions and respondents indicating that they w.uld like more training.
