In recent years,hard carbon materials have gained significant interest as anode materials for Na-ion *** waste is considered one of the most interesting,renewable,available,and cost-effective precursor to obtain hard carbon(HC);however,HC properties must be finely tuned to achieve performance comparable to those provided by Li-ion *** this work,three biomass wastes(coconut shells,walnut shells,and corn silk) were evaluated as potential precursors for HC preparation involving a pyrolysis process and subsequent acid washing to remove the inorganic *** obtained materials exhibited low and similar specific surface areas(fferent structures and surface *** walnut shell HC possessed a lower amount of inorganic impurities and oxygen-based functional groups compared to the coconut shell and corn silk HCs,leading to higher initial coulombic efficiency(iCE).The structural organization was higher in the case of the walnut shell HC,while the corn silk HC revealed a heterogeneous structure combining both highly disordered carbon and localized graphitized *** HCs delivered high initial reversible capacities between 293 and 315 mAh g^(-1) at 50 mA g^(-1) current rate,which remained rather stable during long-term *** best capacity(293 mAh g^(-1) after 100 charge/discharge cycles) and highest capacity retention(93%) was achieved in walnut HCs in half-cells,which could be associated with its higher sp2 C content,better organized structure,and fewer *** "adsorption-insertion" Na storage mechanism is suggested based on several *** walnut HCs exhibited an attractive energy density of 279 Wh/kg when tested in full cells.

This work develops a standalone autonomously controlled personalized ventilation(PV)unit in a naturally ventilated(NV)office space to maintain acceptable thermal comfort{TQ under steady and transient indoor conditions and activity *** NV-PV proportional integral derivative(PID)controller adjusts the PV supply temperature(7spv)at the occupant set flow rate(Qspv)based on predicted TC using a regression *** target TC level that the controller attains at all times is between 0(neutral)and 1(slightly comfortable).Process transfer functions were developed and then used to find the adaptive PID tuning coefficients using the Internal Model Control(IMC)*** controller was tested in a case study at indoor temperature range of 25 to 33℃ with relative humidity range of 55%and 80%.It was shown that the NV-PV controller adjusted Tspv to maintain acceptable TC under transients of indoor conditions and metabolic rates.

A travel recommendation system based on social media activity provides a customized place of interest to accommodate user-specific needs and preferences. In general, the user’s inclination towards travel destinations is subject to change over time. In this project, we have analyzed users’ twitter data, as well as their friends and followers in a timely fashion to understand recent travel interest. A machine learning classifier identifies tweets relevant to travel. The travel tweets are then used to obtain personalized travel recommendations. Unlike most of the personalized recommendation systems, our proposed model takes into account a user’s most recent interest by incorporating time-sensitive recency weight into the model. Our proposed model has outperformed the existing personalized place of interest recommendation model, and the overall accuracy is 75.23%.

Patients with long-standing inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)involving at least 1/3 of the colon are at increased risk for colorectal cancer(CRC).Advancements in CRC screening and surveillance and improved treatment of IBD has reduced CRC incidence in patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s *** cases of CRC are thought to arise from dysplasia,and recent evidence suggests that the majority of dysplastic lesions in patients with IBD are visible,in part thanks to advancements in high definition colonoscopy and *** practice guidelines have supported the use of chromoendoscopy with targeted biopsies of visible lesions rather than traditional random *** are encouraged to endoscopically resect visible dysplasia and only recommend surgery when a complete resection is not *** technologies such as virtual chromoendoscopy are emerging as potential tools in CRC *** with IBD at increased risk for developing CRC should undergo surveillance colonoscopy using new approaches and techniques.

Some researchers, running instructors, and coaches have suggested that the "optimal" footstrike pattern to improve performance and reduce running injuries is to land using a mid-or forefoot strike. Thus, it has been recommended that runners who use a rearfoot strike would benefit by changing their footstrike although there is little scientific evidence for suggesting such a change. The rearfoot strike is clearly more prevalent. The major reasons often given for changing to a mid-or forefoot strike are(1) it is more economical;(2) there is a reduction in the impact peak and loading rate of the vertical component of the ground reaction force; and(3) there is a reduction in the risk of a running-related injuries. In this paper,we critique these 3 suggestions and provide alternate explanations that may provide contradictory evidence for altering one's footstrike *** have concluded, based on examining the research literature, that changing to a mid-or forefoot strike does not improve running economy, does not eliminate an impact at the foot-ground contact, and does not reduce the risk of running-related injuries.

This commentary addresses the article by Wu et al. entitled 'On-orbit sleep problems of astronauts and countermeasures'. In this article, the authors discussed the sleep problems of astronauts. Despite its challenging topic, the paper authored by Wu et al. has at least one major shortcoming. This issue is related to the observation that the sleep pattern of astronauts can be disturbed by light flash phenomenon. Since the first report by astronaut E.E. Aldrin in 1969, many astronauts have reported light flashes. These visually perceived flashes of light occurred in different shapes but they apparently moved across the visual field of astronauts and possibly caused, at least to some extent, sleep problems. Moreover, the countermeasures proposed by the authors may improve astronauts’ sleep pattern, but they do not address the root cause of the light flashes(i.e., heavy ion interactions outside the shielding provided by the Earth’s magnetosphere). A possible approach to reducing light flashes is available using the fact that much of the galactic cosmic radiation(GCR) spectrum is composed of ions that can be diverted from the spacecraft using electromagnetic fields. Possible design parameters and the requisite electric and magnetic field strengths to successfully deflect GCR radiation are outlined.

The Budd Chiari syndrome(BCS)is a rare and potentially fatal disease,but there is a paucity of data on the in-hospital mortality as well its economic burden on the health care *** To evaluate trends in mortality,length of hospital stays and resource utilization among inpatients with *** Data on all adult patients with a diagnosis of BCS were extracted from the National Inpatient Sample(NIS)from 1998 to *** make inferences regarding the national estimates for the total number of BCS discharges across the study period,sample weights were applied to each admission per recommendations from the *** During the study period,there were 3591(8.73%)in-patient *** overall inhospital mortality rates among BCS patients decreased from 18%in 1998 to 8%in 2017;the mortality decreased by 4.41%(Pfailure,acute kidney injury,acute respiratory failure,hepatic encephalopathy,hepatorenal syndrome,inferior vena cava thrombosis,intestinal infarct,sepsis/septic shock and cancer were associated increased risk of *** average of length of stay was 8.8 d and it consistently decreased by 2.04%(95%CI:-2.67%,-1.41%,Pfrom 12.7 d in 1998 to 7.6 d in *** average total charges after adjusted for Medical Care Consumers Price Index to 2017 dollars during the time period was$94440 and the annual percentage change increased by 1.15%(95%CI:0.35%,1.96%,P=0.005)from$95515 in 1998 to$103850 in *** The in-hospital mortality rate for patients admitted with BCS in the United States has reduced between 1998 and 2017 and this may a reflection of better management of these patients.

Geothermal energy is used worldwide primarily for generating electricity, space heating and spas. The geothermal resources that have been developed, however, produce only a small fraction of the available energy stored in the upper few kilometers of the earth’s crust(Tester et al., 2006). Although heat is present, rocks throughout most of the shallow crust lack the interconnected permeability necessary to form geothermal reservoirs.
