Clustered organization of biosynthetic non-homologous genes is emerging as a characteristic feature of plant *** co-regulation of clustered genes seems to largely depend on epigenetic reprogram-ming and three-dimensional chromatin *** this study,we identified the long non-coding RNA(lncRNA)MARneral Silencing(MARS),localized inside the Arabidopsis marneral cluster,which con-trols the local epigenetic activation of its surrounding region in response to abscisic acid(ABA).MARS modulates the POLYCOMB REPRESSIVE COMPLEX 1(PRC1)component LIKE HETEROCHROMATIN PROTEIN 1(LHP1)binding throughout the cluster in a dose-dependent manner,determining H3K27me3 deposition and chromatin *** response to ABA,MARS decoys LHP1 away from the cluster and promotes the formation of a chromatin loop bringing together the MARNERAL SYNTHASE 1(MRN1)locus and a distal ABA-responsive *** enrichment of co-regulated lncRNAs in clustered meta-bolic genes in Arabidopsis suggests that the acquisition of novel non-coding transcriptional units may constitute an additional regulatory layer driving the evolution of biosynthetic pathways.

Genomic imprinting leads to the differential expression of parental alleles after fertilization. Imprinting appears to have evolved independently in mammals and flowering plants to regulate the development of nutrient-transfer placental tissues. In addition, the regulation of imprinting in both mammals and flowering plants involves changes in DNA methylation and histone methylation, thus suggesting that the epigenetic signals that regulate imprinting have been co-opted in these distantly related species.

An overview on nucleation theories and models

Several different models for coercivity are discussed. There are two main situations: i) nanocrystalline magnets, with grain size bellow the single domain particle size, and ii) magnets with grain size above single domain particle size. The described theories and models are general, and can be applied in either NdFeB magnets, SmFeCoCuZr or strontium ferrite magnets. The spring effect observed in isotropic nanocrystalline magnets can be explained with the Stoner-Wohlfarth model. Modifications of the StonerWohlfarth model are necessary to take into account the effect of interaction between grains. When the grain size is above the single domain size, energy considerations show that nucleation should occur at the surface of grains. Nucleation is interpreted as a two-step process, where domain wall displacement occurs for grain size above single domain size, after a nucleus is first formed. The effect of grain size on the coercive field is discussed.

Objective： To examine the effect of metanol extract of Petiveria alliacea （PM） on airway inflammation in a murine model of chronic asthma. Methods： Two-month-old male BALB/c mice （n=6-8/group） were sensitized on days 0 and 14 by intraperitoneal injection of 20μg ovalbumin （OVA）. On day 25, the mice received an airway challenge with OVA （3%, w/v, in phosphate buffered saline）. PM was administered orally by oral gavage to mice at doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight once daily from days 18 to 23. Control mice were orally administered phosphate buffered saline （PBS） to induce a model of asthma. At the end of the test, respiratory reactivity was assayed, the total cell number, interleukin-4 （IL-4）, IL-5, IL-13, tumor necrosis factor-alpha （TNF-α） and reactive oxygen species （ROS） in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid （BALF） were determined and the levels of serum IgE, intercellular cell adhesion molecule 1 （ICAM-1） and eotoxin were measured. In addition, lung tissue was used to qualify the IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, TNF-α and transforming growth factor beta 1 （TGF-β1）. Histologic examination was performed to observe inflammatory cellular infiltration. Results： The administration of PM in comparison with the OVA-only treated group significantly attenuated the infiltration of eosinophUs and other inflammatory cells （P〈0.01）. Airway resistance （RI） in the OVA-only induced group was significantly higher than that of the PBS control group （P〈0.01） when methacholine was added. TNF-α, IgE, TGF-β1 and cytokine levels IL-4, IL-5, IL-β in the BALF decreased compared to control mice （P〈0.01 or P〈0.05）. PM treatment also inhibited the production of chemokines, eotaxin and ICAM-1 in BALF （P〈0.01）, which improved lung function. Histopathological examination revealed that the sensitized treated PM groups had significant lower in inflammatory scores similar to dexamethasone treatments and the untreated group. Erectile dysfunction （ED） is considered a condition with a broad range of etiologies. Obstructive sleep apnea （OSA） syndrome is one of the lesser studied risk factors for ED. We intend to summarize the current evidence on the relationship between OSA and sexual impairment, focusing on the results in terms of erectile function of the different therapies offered to OSA patients. A systematic review was conducted, selecting articles related to the physiology of OSA and ED, and to the treatments of OSA syndrome and their reported outcomes in erectile and sexual function. Higher prevalences of ED in the OSA groups have been published. However, whether this effect on the erectile function occurs in the entire range of OSA severities remains unclear. Several hypotheses were proposed to explain the physiology of this association. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure as a treatment for OSA patients with ED has achieved a significative improvement in the sexual parameters in most of the studies. Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors （iPDE5） on demand are useful as a treatment for ED in this subgroup of patients, with high satisfaction rates. The surgical treatment for the OSA evidenced benefits over the erectile function, and the effect on the sexual satisfaction of the therapy using Mandibular Advancement Devices is still undefined.

In this study, we evaluated the effects of genistein supplementation of the thawing extender on frozen-thawed human semen parameters. We analyzed the effect of supplementation on sperm motility, capacitation （membrane lipid disorder）, reactive oxygen species （ROS） generation, chromatin condensation and DNA damage. Using this preliminary information, it maybe possible to improve the cryopreservation process and reduce the cellular damage. We have confirmed that the isoflavone genistein （10 μmol L-1） has antioxidant properties on the frozen-thawed spermatozoa. This results in a decreased ROS production that shows a slight improvement in the sperm motility, and decreases the membrane lipid disorder and DNA damage caused by cryopreservation. These results suggest an effect of genistein on sperm functionality that could be of interest for assisted reproduction treatments using frozen- thawed human spermatozoa, but further studies will be necessary to confirm our findings and to evaluate the possible clinical applications.

This work presents the authors＇ experience in the field of mobile technologies, from which several initiatives have emerged. As result of this, a games-based framework for learning has been developed in these last years. This framework is composed by a competition called Mobigame, which has as main aim to stimulate the participation of the students. By participating in this competition participants learn to develop for mobile devices. A game to practice Japanese is also presented in this article, which was presented in the above mentioned competition. This game has been developed for mobile phones or PDAs （Personal Digital Assistants） based on the JME （Java Mobile Edition） technology. Finally, another initiative is also presented： A free download platform of digital contents for mobile devices based on info-educational games.
