Spices are def.ned as any aromatic condiment of.plant origin used to alter the f.avor and aroma of.f.ods. Besides f.avor and aroma, many spices have antioxidant activity, mainly related to the presence in cloves of.phenolic compounds, such as f.avonoids, terpenoids and eugenol. In turn, the most common uses of.gum arabic are in the f.rm of.powder f.r addition to sof. drink syrups, cuisine and baked goods, specif.cally to stabilize the texture of.products, increase the viscosity of.liquids and promote the leavening of.baked products (e.g., cakes). Both eugenol, extracted f.om cloves, and gum arabic, extracted f.om the hardened sap of.two species of.the Acacia tree, are dietary constituents routinely consumed virtually throughout the world. Both of.them are also widely used medicinally to inhibit oxidative stress and genotoxicity. The prevention arm of.the study included groups: Ia, IIa, IIIa, Iva, V, VI, VII, VIII. Once a week f.r 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental groups received DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the same period and f.r an additional 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% GA, EUG, or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The treatment arm of.the study included groups Ib, IIb, IIIb e IVb, IX, X, XI, XII). Once a week f.r 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental groups received DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the subsequent 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% GA, EUG or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The novelty of.this study is the investigation of.their use alone and together f.r the prevention and treatment of.experimental colorectal carcinogenesis induced by dimethylhydrazine. Our results show that the combined use of.10% gum arabic and eugenol was ef.ective, with antioxidant action in the colon, as well as reducing oxidative stress in all colon segments and preventing and treating genotoxicity in all colon segments. f.rthermore, their joint administration reduced the number of.aberrant crypts and th

The role of.rhizobacteria in rice plants: Growth and mitigation of.toxicity

Allelopathic compounds reduce the growth and productivity of.upland rice plants, especially in consecutive plantations. The rhizobacteria Pseudomonas f.uorescens BRM-32111 and Burkholderia pyrrocinia BRM-32113 have been recorded as growth promoters in rice. This study was developed to understand the ef.ect of.the application of.rhizobacteria on upland rice plants in consecutive plantations. Experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design with f.ur replications of.f.ur treatments: rice seed inoculated with P. f.uorescens BRM-32111, rice seed inoculated with B. pyrrocinia BRM-32113(both sown on soil with rice residue), non-inoculated plants sown on soil with rice residue(control with residue(WR)), and non-inoculated plants on soil with no residue(NR). Roots and seedling growth were adversely af.ected by allelopathic compounds in control WR plants. Plants inoculated with rhizobacteria P. f.uorescens BRM-32111 or B. pyrrocinia BRM-32113 induced an increase of.88% in biomass, 3% in the leaf.area, 40% in length, 67% in root biomass, 21% in chlorophyll a, 53% in chlorophyll(a+b), 50% in rate of.carbon assimilation(A), 227% in A/rubisco carboxylation ef.iciency(ci) and 63% in water use ef.iciency(WUE) compared to control WR plants. These results indicate that rhizobacteria P. f.uorescens BRM-32111 and B. pyrrocinia BRM-32113 increase the tolerance of.rice plants to stress f.om allelochemicals. There are possible practical agricultural applications of.these results f.r mitigating the ef.ects of.environmental allelochemistry on upland rice.

Objective:The aim of.this study was to assess the relative ef.icacy of.medications used f.llowing severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-coV-2)inf.ction on self.reported alterations in taste and/or smell ***:Seven hundred and f.urteen persons with self.reported postcoronavirus disease 2019(post-cOVID-19)chemosensory disorders were personally interviewed regarding specif.c medications they were administered f.llowing the acute phase of.the *** dependent measure—self.reported total recovery of.chemosensory symptoms—was subjected to stepwise logistic *** predictors included demographic and clinical variables,in addition to specif.c medications used to mitigate disease symptoms(i.e.,systemic corticosteroids,oseltamivir,vitamin c,ibuprof.n,hydroxychloroquine,azithromycin,ivermectin,nitazoxanide,anticoagulants,and zinc).Results:The median time between cOVID-19 symptom onset and the interviews was 81 days(interquartile range:60-104).Of.the 714 subjects,249(34.9%)reported total recovery of.their chemosensory f.nction;437(61.2%)had at least one treatment since the beginning of.the *** and those with more comorbidities had undergone more *** recovery rates of.the treated and nontreated groups did not dif.er ***,respondents who had used nitazoxanide tended to have a higher rate of.self.reported taste or smell *** who took oral zinc were less likely to ***:No medication employed during the f.rst months af.er SARS-coV-2 inf.ction had a clear positive ef.ect on returning self.reported smell or taste f.nction to normal,although nitrazoxide trended in a positive *** zinc had a negative ef.ect on the reported recovery of.these senses.

Nanomineralogy of.evaporative precipitation of.ef.lorescent compounds f.om coal mine drainage

Ef.lorescent nanophases(NPs) are f.und as a transitory accumulation of.potentially hazardous elements(PHEs),particularly in tropical climates. The central objective of.this study was to investigate the distribution of.PHEs with NPs through the evaporative f.rmation structures(Ef.) of.enormously PHEs-rich coal-mine drainages(cMD). The Ef. were studied in natural coal mine drainage f.r f.ve months in order to determine their geochemical and ecological structures and to assess their position in the reduction of.PHEs in nature. The largest coal-f.red power plant in South America, located in south Brazil, is used as an example of.such a problem. In this work, a novel methodology f.r the analysis of.PHEs in cMD precipitates is proposed f.r this af.ected coal *** analytical method, combining X-Ray Dif.raction(XRD) and advanced electron microscopies, shows the importance of.nanomineralogy in understanding dif.erent circumstances of.coal contamination. Several ultraf.nenanoparticles(UNPs) were identif.ed in the sampled soils and river sediments together with the PHEs. A decrease in PHEs was identif.ed in association with UNPs. However, f.rther investigations are required with regard to the mobility of.PHEs in water, atmosphere, soils, and sediments. The EPS was thoroughly studied, acquiring suitable understanding with investigational f.cts f.r ca and f.-sulphates, pickeringite, and several amorphous phases.

Treatment of.Vulvovaginal candidiasis with A Strategy Based on Phototherapy (M.A.c.^® Scar Acceleration Method)

candidiasis, also known as candidiasis vulvovaginitis, is an inf.ction caused by dif.erent types of.candida f.ngi, the most f.equent being candida albicans. The present study reports an ef.ective strategy, which opens new avenues f.r the treatment of.this public health problem. The MAc® Methodology, conventional laser light-emitting (LLLT)/LED) methods are based on the biphasic response demonstrated many times in LLLT research and as with other f.rms of.drugs, a “drug” (irradiation parameters) and a “dose” (irradiation times) and the “Arndt-Schulz Law” is of.en cited as a suitable model to describe the dose-dependent ef.ects of.LLLT. This method uses photopharmaceuticals, cell markers and the use of.correct parameters f.r each case to induce the acceleration of.tissue repair. The present study shows a case of.a 32-year-old patient diagnosed with recurrent candidiasis 4 years ago. Eighteen sessions were perf.rmed (every other day) using a photoactivated component (Methylene blue 1% + clotrimazole 1%) and LED phototherapy (red, blue and violet) with emission times of.60 - 260 seconds f.r each applicator, according to the dose recommendations of.the scar acceleration method (MAc®). At the sixth treatment session there was a noticeable decrease in the itching sensation reported by the patient. In session 11 she reported f.eling a great improvement, indicating that she no longer f.lt itching in any area af.er 18 sessions. The present case demonstrates new methodologies to treat common problems in the population that have a positive impact on the quality of.lif.. This methodology has a promising f.ture because it is non-invasive and requires a great biological transf.rmation f.r inf.ammatory, f.ngal and viral control.
