High purity semiconductor films commit 50% of crystalline photovoltaic cell cost and current efforts focus on photovoltaic alternative devices, known as wafer equivalents, based on reduction of substrate and active light absorbing layer thickness and use of foreign substrates instead of traditional silicon wafers. In this way, knowing the substrate crystalline fraction, roughness and grain size distribution is relevant for thin film epitaxial growth. This work presents a semi-quantitative crystalline fraction analysis measured by Raman mapping microscopy of pc-Si sheets prepared by Atmospheric Thermal Plasma Spray (ATPS) as initial reference for solar cell substrates. Results showed a structural mixed silicon sheet with different values of crystalline fraction, specific regions of amorphous structure contribution, transition regions and a range of crystallite size. The results suggests the need for better ATPS substrate temperature control for higher and homogeneous crystalline fraction values to attend to requirements of a thin film solar cell substrate.

Ultraviolet radiation is the mainly degradation cause of solar cells polymeric encapsulants films, leading to a photovoltaic efficiency conversion fails. In this work, it was produced gamma irradiated and non-irradiated quartz nanoparticles with a planetary balls mill by applying progressive compressive milling, as potentials ultraviolet radiation absorbers fillers for these films. The nanoparticles chemical composition was obtained by plasma optical emission spectroscopy. UV-vis-NIR results showed a similar total optical absorption on ultraviolet range to both kind of nanoparticles, with higher light transmission in visible and NIR range being characteristic of irradiated ones. It was found average sizes values of 60.82 nm with 16% efficiency with mainly Al and Fe compounds contaminations. The XRD results showed maximum pressure of 337 MPa for non-irradiated samples and 300 MPa for the irradiated ones, significantly lower than literature related values to 40 h of applied pressure. This could mean considerable process energy safe for quartz nanoparticles production.

Au has been loaded （1% wt.） on different commercial oxide supports （CuO, La2O3, Y2O3, NiO） by three different methods： double impregnation （DIM）, liquid-phase reductive deposition （LPRD）, and ultrasonication （US）. Samples were characterised by N2 adsorption at -196℃, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, high-angle annular dark-field imaging （Z-contrast）, X-ray diffraction, and temperature programmed reduction. CO oxidation was used as a test reaction to compare the catalytic activities. The best results were obtained with Au loaded by DIM on the NiO support, with an activity of 7.2 × 10^（-4） molco·gAu^（-1）·s^（-1） at room temperature. This is most likely related to the Au nanoparticle size being the smallest in this catalyst （average 4.8 nm）, since it is well known that gold particle size determines the catalytic activity. Other samples, having larger Au particle sizes （in the 2-12 nm range, with average sizes ranging from 4.8 to 6.8 nm）, showed lower activities. Nevertheless, all samples prepared by DIM had activities （from 1.1 × 10^（-4） to 7.2 × 10^（-4） molco·gAu^（-1）·S^（-1）, at room temperature） above those reported in the literature for gold on similar oxide supports. Therefore, this method gives better results than the most usual methods of deposition-precipitation or co-precipitation.

Polymers containing nanoparticles dispersed and distributed in the matrix can be used for control of drug release. In this work, hydrophilic matrix systems were prepared using poly(vinyl alcohol) and unmodified clay containing the same amount of cephalexin. The materials were obtained through in situ polymerization and were characterized by the conventional technique of FTIR and NMR relaxometry, through determination of proton spin-lattice relaxation time, in order to understand the molecular behavior of the new materials. The NMR relaxometry data showed that the new materials containing low quantities of clay (0.25% and 0.75%) and the same amount of cephalexin (0.5 g) had very good dispersion and distribution of the clay and drug in the polymer matrix. The combination of clay and cephalexin formed a more homogenous material with a narrow domain curve and low relaxation values. The material containing 0.25% clay presented a mixed morphology, with part exfoliated and part intercalated, as could be seen from the relaxation domain distribution, which was larger than that for material with 0.75% clay.

Clinical and environmental isolates of Burkholderia pseudomallei from Brazil: Genotyping and detection of virulence gene

＜正＞ International sociology has been studying violence in her manifestations and multiple forms on the social space. Among these, it has been acquiring larger visibility police violence as a model of conflicts resolution, mainly in contemporary Brazilian society. The present paper proposes to analyze the policemen’s social representations （above all those linked to the structure of the Brasilia Federal District） about police violence. The emphasis of the analysis will be centered at formal organizational models and policing methods, aiming to evaluate the social and cultural roots of this type of violence. The main questions are: Did the police performance is realized as violent one by leaders of the criminal justice organizations? In which measure the police violence is represented as an effect, direct or indirect, of the deficit of social order policies? These kinds of policing are a consequence of human rights fails in the policeman’s professional formation? Or the generalized discredit in the criminal justice system, which produces impunity, led violence to be considered a legitimated character of the police function? Finally, we will compare these representations with the ones of civil society groups, which forms a public opinion about the police violence. Our conclusion put the dilemma of a structural ethos and professional culture predominant in the Brazilian police’s organizations in contrast with democratic points of view of policing from the Brazilian civil society.

Objective: To evaluate the genetic diversity of clinical and environmental isolates of Burkholderia pseudomallei(***) recovered in Ceara, Brazil, and screen these isolates for the presence of type three secretion system virulence ***: Nineteen *** isolates(9 from clinical cases and 10 from soils)were *** amplified polymorphic DNA was performed with primers OPQ-2, OPQ-4 and OPQ-16 to evaluate the genetic diversity, and type three secretion system gene was detected through polymerase chain ***: Random amplified polymorphic DNA showed a genetic relatedness of approximately 50% among the tested *** isolates, which were grouped into two clades, of which the biggest ones comprised 18/19 isolates for primer OPQ-2, and 17/19 isolates for primer *** OPQ-4 grouped the isolates into three clades comprising 1/19, 3/19 and 15/19 ***, type three secretion system gene was detected in all tested ***: This is an effort to type *** strains from Ceara, which is important for better understanding this pathogen, contributing for the epidemiological surveillance of melioidosis in this endemic region.

Papillary fistulotomy vs conventional cannulation for endoscopic biliary access:A prospective randomized trial

AIM To compare the cannulation success, biochemical profile, and complications of the papillary fistulotomy technique vs catheter and guidewire standard *** From July 2010 to May 2017, patients were prospectively randomized into two groups: Cannulation with a catheter and guidewire(Group Ⅰ) and papillary fistulotomy(Group Ⅱ). Amylase, lipase and C-reactive protein at T0, as well as 12 h and 24 h after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and complications(pancreatitis, bleeding, perforation) were *** We included 102 patients(66 females and 36 males, mean age 59.11 ± 18.7 years). Group Ⅰ and Group Ⅱ had 51 patients each. The successful cannulation rates were 76.5% and 100%, respectively(P = 0.0002). Twelve patients(23.5%) in Group Ⅰ had a difficult cannulation and underwent fistulotomy, which led to successful secondary biliary access(Failure Group). The complication rate was 13.7%(2 perforations and 5 mild pancreatitis) vs 2.0%(1 patient with perforation and pancreatitis) in Groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ, respectively(P = 0.0597). CONCLUSION Papillary fistulotomy was more effective than guidewire cannulation, and it was associated with a lower profile of amylase and lipase. Complications were similar in both groups.

AIM： To evaluated the therapeutic and prophylactic effect of thalidomide on 2, 4, 6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid （TNBS）-induced colitis. Thalidomide has been reported to downregulate the expression of tumor necrosis factor α （TNF-α）, IL-12, and vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF）, hallmarks of intestinal inflammation in Crohn＇s disease （CD）. METHODS： Male Wistar rats were divided in five groups of ten animals each. Four groups received a rectal infusion of TNBS in ethanol. The first group was sacrificed 7 d after colitis induction. The second and third groups received either thalidomide or placebo by gavage and were sacrificed at 14 d. The fourth group received thalidomide 6 h before TNBS administration, and was sacrificed 7 d after induction. The fifth group acted as the control group and colitis was not induced. Histological inflammatory scores of the colon were performed and lamina propria CD4＋ T cells, macrophages, and VEGF＋ cells were detected by immunohistochemistry. TNF-α and IL-12 were quantified in the supernatant of organ cultures by ELISA. RESULTS： Significant reduction in the inflammatory score and in the percentage of VEGF＋ cells was observed in the group treated with thalidomide compared with animals not treated with thalidomide. Both TNF-α and IL-12 levels were significantly reduced among TNBS induced colitis animals treated with thalidomide compared with animals that did not receive thalidomide. TNF-α levels were also significantly reduced among the animals receiving thalidomide prophylaxis compared with untreated animals with TNBS-induced colitis. Intestinal levels of TNF-α and IL-12 were significantly correlated with the inflammatory score and the number of VEGF＋ cells. CONCLUSION： Thalidomide significantly attenuates TNBS-induced colitis by inhibiting the intestinal production of TNF-α, IL-12, and VEGF. This effect may support the use of thalidomide as an alternate approach in selected patients with CD.
