Isotropic compression behavior of granular assembly with non-spherical particles by X-ray micro-computed tomography and discrete element modeling

The particle morphological properties,such as sphericity,concavity and convexity,of a granular assembly significantly affect its macroscopic and microscopic compress.ve behaviors under isotropic loading ***,limited studies on investigating the microscopic behavior of the granular assembly with real particle shapes under isotropic compression were *** this study,X-ray computed tomography(mCT)and discrete element modeling(DEM)were utilized to investigate isotropic compression behavior of the granular assembly with regard to the particle morphological properties,such as particle sphericity,concavity and interparticle *** mCT was first used to extract the particle morphological parameters and then the DEM was utilized to numerically investigate the influences of the particle morphological properties on the isotropic compression *** image reconstruction from mCT images indicated that the presented particle quantification algorithm was robust,and the presented microscopic analysis.via the DEM simulation demonstrated that the particle surface concavity significantly affected the isotropic compression *** observations of the particle connectivity and local void ratio distribution also provided insights into the granular assembly under isotropic *** found that the particle concavity and interparticle friction influenced the most of the isotropic compression behavior of the granular assemblies.

Tubuliform silk glands were dissected from Nephila clavipes spiders,and silk gut fibers were produced by immersing the glands in a mild acid solution and subsequent *** tensile properties of the as produced fibers were obtained through tensile tests,and the stress–strain curves were compared with those of naturally spun tubuliform silk *** influence on the mechanical properties of the fibers after immersion in water and drying was also *** microstructure of the silk guts was obtained by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).It was found that the stress–strain curves of the stretched tubuliform silk guts concur with those of their natural counterparts(tubuliform silk fibers).

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the most common cancers in the world and is one of the leading indications for liver transplantation,liver transplantation is the gold standard treatment for end stage liver *** is based up on radiological characteristics and rarely biopsy *** treatment must be individualized to each patient to improve recurrences and *** this article,we focus on the different selection criteria for liver *** study aimed to investigate the distribution laws and research frontiers of international literature,so as to present holistic bibliometric evaluation of the studies on 5-year survival and disease-free recurrence in 5 years,according to hepatocarcinoma criteria for liver *** paper aims to review and analyze 5-year survival and disease-free recurrence based on hepatocarcinoma criteria for liver *** systematically examines and summarizes distribution characteristics and research frontiers through bibliometric analysis.A bibliographic search was implemented in pubMed/Medline,Clinical Key,science Direct and Index Medicus with MEsH terms,from the year 1996–*** selected for transplantation using the Metroticket 2.0(MT2)criteria had the highest overall survival along with patients selected for transplantation using the Milan Criteria had the best 5-year disease-free *** Metroticket 2.0 criteria(MT2)and Milan Criteria(MC)have shown the most favorable post-transplant outcomes for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).However,MC demonstrated the best 5-year disease-free recurrence rate,underscoring the significance of taking into account tumor morphology and biology when determining the eligibility of HCC patients for liver *** distribution characteristics and research frontiers by bibliometrics concerning prognostic role of selection criteria for liver transplantation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma the collaboration

Background studies investigating health-related quality of life(HRQoL)in youth with perinatally acquired HIv(pHIv+)are *** study aimed to compare HRQoL of pHIv+to sociodemographic-matched youth not living with HIv(HIv-),spanish general youth population,and to explore associations between sociodemographic variables,drug consumption,and *** pHIv+youth were randomly selected from CoRIspe database(Cohort of the spanish pediatric HIv Network).HRQoL was evaluated by *** Thirty-nine pHIv+youth(mean age:23.36 years,sD=3.83)and thirty-nine HIv-youth(mean age:22.97 years,sD=3.80)participated in this ***+obtained lower scores in sF-12 physical health subscale(pCs)than HIv-(p=0.001)and spanish general youth population(p=0.006).pHIv+had lower scores on the mental health subscale(MCs)than the spanish general youth population(ppHIv+who were at school obtained better scores than those were not at ***+youth who had used cocaine and cannabis had lower scores in MCs(p=0.002).Conclusions There is a need for HRQoL management in the associated medical follow-up.

Inventory and Geometrical Changes in small Glaciers Covering Three Northern patagonian summits Using Remote sensing and GIs Techniques

In the last few decades, a large quantity of research has been performed to elucidate the current behavior of glaciers in southern Chile, especially with respect to the volumetric changes in the outlets of the Northern and southern patagonian Icefields （NpI and spI, respectively）. Calculations have shown a generalized thinning and withdrawal, which greatly contributes to the increase in sea level attributed to the ice melt from non-polar glaciers. However, these icefields are surrounded by many small icecaps, which have＇yet to be studied in detail. A precise estimation of the volume of ice located in these mountain chains could provide new information with respect to this area＇s exact contribution to the increase in sea level. Thus, this study presents an inventory of relatively small Northern patagonian glaciers in the surrounding of the three summits： Mount Queulat, and the maca and Hudson volcanoes. The study used remote sensing techniques in a GIs environment to determine the margins, surface areas, thickness changes and hypsometry for the glaciated zones. Landsat images from different dates were analyzed using standard band ratio and screen delineation techniques. Additionally, digital elevation models from different dates were compared using map algebra, calculating thickness changes. Based on the results, we propose that there are important volumetric changes in the glaciers studied, whichcould be explained by precipitation trends in a general context, and an influence of the glaciers＇ sizes in some local response. Therefore, we suggest the exact contribution of the patagonia to the increase in sea level corresponds to a regional pattern rather than just the behavior of a single ice field.

Greenhouses Gases, Carbonyls, and volatile Organic Compounds surface Flux Emissions at Three Final Waste Disposal sites Located in the Metropolitan Area of Costa Rica

The surface flux emissions for volatile organic compounds (vOC’s) (alcohols and aromatic species), priority carbonyls and greenhouse gases, were measured in three different final disposal sites for urban solid waste located in the metropolitan area of Costa Rica, between July and October 2014. The emissions fluxes were determined using the static sampling chamber technique coupled to two different adsorption tubes: active charcoal (supelco, ORBO 32) to capture BTEX and alcohols;and 2,4-DNpH coated silica gel (sKC, 226-119) for carbonyls. As for the vOCs, the BTEX, Alcohols, and Carbonyls total fluxes were in the range of 3 to 258, 1 to 318 and 0.4 to 8.5 mg/(m2día), respectively. The magnitudes per site were in the following order La Carpio > El Huaso > Rio Azul. Ethanol and BTEX presented a high correlation in all the cases because possibly they are sharing the same sources or formation mechanisms. The emission fluxes spatial distributions among the sites were very variable and dependent on the location of the active cells and their age. Only La Carpio showed a more homogeneous distribution due to its middle age.

Copper and Cyanide Recovery in Cyanidation Effluents

Cyanidation is the main process for gold and silver recovery from its ores. In this study, a process is proposed to recover copper and cyanide from barren solutions from the Merrill-Crowe cementation process with zinc dust. This technology is based on inducing nucleated precipitation of copper and silver in a serpentine reactor, using sodium sulfide as the precipitator, and sulfuric acid for pH control. Results show that pH value has a significant effect on copper cyanide removal efficiency, and it was determined the optimal pH range to be 2.5 - 3. At this pH value, the copper cyanide removal efficiency achieved was up to 97 and 99%, when copper concentration in the influent was 636 and 900 ppm. respectively. In this process (sulphidization-acidification-thickening-HCN recycling), the cyanide associated with copper cyanide complexes, is released as HCN gas under weakly acidic conditions, allowing it to be recycled back to the cyanidation process as free cyanide. Cyanide recovery was 90%. Finally, this procedure was successfully run at Minera William in México.

Copper Recovery from Barren Cyanide solution by Using Electrocoagulation Iron process

This paper is a brief overview of the role of inducing the nucleated electro winning of copper by using iron electrodes in electrocoagulation (EC) process. Cyanide compounds are widely used in gold ore processing plants in order to facilitate the extraction and subsequent concentration of the precious metal. Owing to cyanide solution employed in gold processing, effluents generated have high contents of free cyanide as well as copper cyanide complexes, which lend them a high degree of toxicity. In this regard, two options for the treatment of cyanide barren solutions has been used;in two ways;first for cyanide destruction by oxidation with the use of the EC process, in theory, has the advantage of decomposing cyanide at the anode and collecting copper simultaneously by a sludge of copper magnetic iron. In both cases excellent performance can be achieved using the high capacity of the bipolar iron EC technology. We found that it is possible to reduce the copper cyanide complex from 720 mg·l-1 to below 10 mg·l-1 within 20 minutes.
