We present a non-relativistic approach to the equivalent polarization Peq=(1/c2)v×Meq, that appears in a magnetized medium in motion. We apply an analogous method to that used by Panofsky and Phillips to calculate the symmetric effect, the equivalent magnetization that appears in a polarized dielectric in motion, Meq=P×v,?This method is based on a particular expression of Maxwell’s equations and the application of the convective derivative. These authors argue, however, that the equivalent polarization can be obtained only with a relativistic approach. We show that with the same method, but with a different and equivalent expression of Maxwell’s equations, this effect can also be calculated. In this way both effects can be considered relativistic effects to first order in v/c.

Provincial Disparities in Post-reform China

Using conventional and novel techniques, the present paper analyzes the main characteristics of Chinese provincial disparities during the reform period, specifically between 1978 and 200Z After dismissing the presence of spatial dependence, three main results are obtained： first, provincial inequalities have basically followed a ＂v＂ trend; second, grouping China into three large regions shows that inequality mainly lies within each region, particularly in coastal areas; and third, the analysis of intra-distribution dynamics reveals that, although there was some significant mobility in provincial relative income, particularly until 1990, the whole periodpersistence in the ranking of income levels is a major feature. This might provoke some changes in the policy approach to dealing with spatial disparities.

Solar Driven Wind Speed Monitoring System Using Wireless or Wired Sensors

Instrumented towers are being constructed to characterize vertical wind profiles in order to improve the understanding and characterization of a desired environment up to 100 m. The site being measured is at a height of 2500 m over sea level, in one side of Sierra Madre Oriental, which crosses Mexico from North to South. As the site has no energy, it was powered by a photovoltaic system. Power consumption of two sets of sensors fixed at the tower was evaluated. The first sensor set consisted of a pulsed anemometer and a rH sensor having a 0 - 10 v output;these sensors used cables for transmitting the output signals. Three cup anemometers fixed at 25, 35 and 45 m high measured wind speed. Wireless sensors in the second set, requires of a power consumption and battery life study. Solar cells energized the sensors, becoming the installation and operation easier. The datalogger that acquired the rH and T measurements encountered an 11% voltage loss throughout the cable;cup anemometer measurements did not show variations due to its pulsed signals. Wireless sensors drew less energy from the Pv system, resulting in battery overcharge. A dump regulator turned-on a 200 W lamp during the night when the battery voltage reached 14 v;the lamp was turned-off when the battery voltage felt beneath 11.5 v. Considering the high wind available, wireless sensors batteries were charged by small wind turbines combined with 5 W solar panels.

Dielectric constant predictions for energetic materials using quantum calculations

The dielectric constant(DC)is one of the key properties for detection of threat materials such as Improvised Explosive Devices(IEDs).In the present paper,the density functional theory(DFT)as well as ab-initio approaches are used to explore effective methods to predict dielectric constants of a series of 12 energetic materials(EMs)for which experimental data needed to experimentally determine the dielectric constant(refractive indices)are *** include military grades energetic materials,nitro and peroxide compounds,and the widely used ***-initio and DFT calculations are *** order to calculate dielectric constant values of materials,potential DFT functional combined with basis sets are considered for *** of the calculations are compared to experimental data listed in the scientific literature,and time required for calculations are both evaluated and *** best functional/basis set combinations among those tested are CAM-B3LYP and AUG-ccpvDZm,which provide great results,with accuracy deviations below 5%when calculated results are compared to experimental data.

Study of the (Ca1–xSrx) ruO3System with Nano-Crystals Prepared by the Solid-State reaction Method

We present a study of their structure, morphology, electrical and magnetic properties on the (Ca1–xSrx) ruO3 system for x = 0.0, 0.07, 0.10, 0.15 and 1.0. The samples were prepared by the solidstate reaction method in air at ambient pressure and heat in the 700℃ - 800℃ range for 48 h. By X-ray powder diffraction (XrD), we determine a solid solution until x = 0.15. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicates that the particle size is 77 - 266 nm. The resistance measurements, as a function of temperature measurements from 7 to 300 K the (Ca1–xSrx) ruO3 system for x = 0.0, 0.07, 0.10, 0.15 and 1.0 show a metallic behaviour. We can even observe that the resistance of the samples is due to the partial substitution of Sr2+ ions and ru ion valence. Finally, the sample x = 0.07 has a magnetization applied high field to 10 K, whereas that to 300 K does not have a magnetization.

Effect of Nanoparticles on Mechanical Properties of Cement-Sand Mortar Applications

Cement-sand mortar is a construction material widely used;tile adhesive is one of the main applications where the compressive strength is the key performance metric. Nanoparticles like MWCNTs and HNTs are currently being used to improve the mechanical performance of the cement mortar due to their properties. The cost of MWCNTs has limited their application in the construction industry. This study focuses on the effect of two different concentrations of MWCNTs and HNTs in cement mortar;HNTs are proposed in this study to compare performance and cost overall benefits. A common problem with MWCNTs is agglomeration;to achieve a proper dispersion an ultrasonic processor was utilized. Mechanical properties of a cement mortar modified with nanoparticles were investigated with compression and bending tests on specimens performed at the age of 7 days. results showed that concentrations of 0.1% of MWCNTs increase in compression strength by 56% and concentrations of 0.1% of HNTs performance increased by 31%, both compared to plain cement mortar.

Influence of a nucleotide oligomerization domain 1 (NOD1) polymorphism and NOD2 mutant alleles on Crohn's disease phenotype

AIM： To examine genetic variation of nucleotide oligomerization domain 1 （NOD/） and NOD2, their respective influences on Crohn＇s disease phenotype and gene-gene interactions. METHODS：（ND1＋32656＊1） NOD1 polymorphism and SNPS, SNP12 and SNP13 of NOD2 were analyzed in 97 patients and 50 controls. NOD2 variants were determined by reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. NOD1 genotyping and NOD2 variant confirmation were performed by specific amplification and sequencing. rESULTS： The distribution of NOD1 polymorphism in patients was different from controls （P = 0.045） and not altered by existence of NOD2 mutations. In this cohort, 30.92% patients and 6% controls carried at least one NOD2 variant （P 〈 0.001） with r702W being the most frequent variant. Presence of at least one NOD2 mutation was inversely associated with colon involvement （9.09% with colon vs 36.4% with ileal or ileocolonic involvement, P = 0.04） and indicative of risk of penetrating disease （52.63% with penetrating vs 25.64% with non-penetrating or stricturing behavior, P = 0.02）. L1007finsC and double NOD2 mutation conferred the highest risk for severity of disease （26.3% with penetrating disease vs 3.8% with non-penetrating or stricturing behavior presented L1007finsC, P = 0.01 and 21.0% with penetrating disease vs 2.5% with non-penentrating or stricturing behavior carried double NOD2 mutation, P = 0.007）. Exclusion of patients with NOD2 mutations from phenotype/NODl-genotype analysis revealed higher prevalence of ＊1＊1 genotype in groups of younger age at onset and colonic location.CONCLUSION： This study suggests population differences in the inheritance of risk NOD1 polymorphism and NOD2 mutations. Although no interaction between NOD1-NOD2 was noticed, a relationship between disease location and Nod-like receptor molecules was established.
