Objective:Deep neck infections(DNI)are responsible for significant morbidity in children and healthcare *** studies exist specifically addressing the clinical and epidemiologic characterization and management of DNI's in the pediatric *** goal was to analyse the demographic characteristics,clinical presentation,diagnostic and therapeutic approaches of peritonsillar and DNI in pediatric ***:The medical records of patients,aged up to 18 years,admitted for peritonsillar and DNI at our department,from 2011 to 2016,were retrospectively reviewed and compared with the literature ***-eight patients were ***:The mean age was higher in patients with peritonsillar abscess and lower in patients with retropharyngeal and parapharyngeal *** have significantly increased from *** was a seasonal variation for DNI incidence,with a peak incidence in Summer and *** patients included were treated as inpatient and received empirical intravenous antibiotic therapy and steroids regardless of drainage *** and drainage was performed in 72 *** hospital length of stay was higher among patients with retropharyngeal abscess and in the group with *** 2 patients developed complications during hospital *** most common microbiological pattern was monomicrobial and the most commonly isolated pathogens were Streptococcus Pyogenes,Streptococcus Mitisand anaerobic ***:Surgical incision and drainage followed by intravenous antibiotic and steroids proved to be successfull with low morbidity related to surgical ***,in selected cases,medical therapy may be an alternative to surgical management in uncomplicated infections.

The objective of this work was to verify the responses in agronomic and physiological characters of lettuce seedlings when submitted to different doses of humic acids and the presence or absence of inoculation of the bacterium Azospirillum brasilense. The experiment was carried out at the Protected Cultivation Station and Biological Control Teacher Mário César Lopes, belonging to the Experimental Stations Nucleus of the State University of the West of Paraná. The experimental design was a randomized block design, in a 5 × 2 factorial scheme, with four repetitions, totaling 40 plots. The first factor consisted of five solutions containing humic acid (100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and 0%) and the second factor was the presence or absence of the diazotrophic bacterium Azospirillum brasilense obtained by commercial product. Germination tests were carried out in addition to the determination of agronomic characters such as the number of fully expanded leaves, plant height, stem diameter, main root length, shoot dry mass, root dry mass, total dry mass, and Dickson quality index. The association of diazotrophic bacteria and humic acids did not influence the emergency rate, mean emergence time, mean speed of emergency, emergence speed index, plant height, and root length of lettuce seedlings. The dilutions of humic acids, regardless of inoculation with bacteria diazotrophic favored the development of the number of leaves, stem diameter and Dickson quality index. Inoculation of lettuce seeds with diazotrophic bacteria associated with the addition of humic acids, favored the development of the dry mass of root and total dry matter.

The literature has shown the efficiency of exercise in the control of type 2 diabetes(T2D), being suggested as one of the best kinds of non-pharmacological treatments for its population. Thus, the scientific production related to this phenomenon has growing exponentially. However, despite its advances, still there is a lack of studies that have carried out a review on the acute effects of physical exercise on metabolic and hemodynamic markers and possible control mechanisms of these indicators in individuals with T2 D, not to mention that in a related way, these themes have been very little studied today. Therefore, the aim of this study was to organize and analyze the current scientific production about the acute effects of physical exercise on metabolic and hemodynamic markers and possible control mechanisms of these indicators in T2 D individuals. For such, a research with the following keywords was performed:-exercise; diabetes and post-exercise hypotension; diabetes and excess post-exercise oxygen consumption; diabetes and acute effects in PUBMED, SCIELO and HIGHWIRE databases. From the analyzed studies, it is possible to conclude that, a single exercise session can promote an increase in the bioavailability of nitric oxide and elicit decreases in postexercise blood pressure. Furthermore, the metabolic stress from physical exercise can increase the oxidation of carbohydrate during the exercise and keep it, in high levels, the post exercise consumption of O2, this phenomenon increases the rate of fat oxidation during recovery periods after exercise, improves glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity and reduces glycemia between 2-72 h, which seems to be dependent on the exercise intensity and duration of the effort.

AIM To evaluate the sex-specific effects of a hydroalcoholic extract from Eugenia punicifolia(HEEP) leaves on gastric ulcer *** In this rat study involving males, intact(cycling) females, and ovariectomized females, gastric ulcers were induced using acetic acid. A vehicle, lansoprazole, or HEEP was administered for 14 d after ulcer induction. Body weight was monitored throughout the treatment period. At the end of treatment, the rats were euthanized and the following in vivo and in vitro investigations were performed: macroscopic examination of the lesion area and organ weights, biochemical analysis, zymography, and evaluation of protein expression levels. Additionally, the concentration-dependent effect of HEEP was evaluated in terms of subacute toxicity and *** Compared to the vehicle, HEEP demonstrated a great healing capacity by substantially reducing the ulcerative lesion area in males(52.44%), intact females(85.22%), and ovariectomized females(65.47%), confirming that HEEP accelerates the healing of acetic acidinduced gastric lesions and suggesting that this effect is modulated by female sex hormones. The antiulcer effect of HEEP was mediated by prostaglandin E2 only in male rats. Overall, the beneficial effect of HEEP was the highest in intact females. Notably, HEEP promoted the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(intact vs ovariectomized females) and decreased the expression of Caspase-8 and Bcl-2(intact female vs male or ovariectomized female). Additionally, HEEP enhanced fibroblast proliferation and migration into a wounded area in vitro, confirming its healing effect. Introduction: Advances in prenatal imaging studies have allowed early diagnosis of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), although neonatal mortality remains at high levels (60% survival). Despite advances, this study found delayed diagnosis, demonstrating subdiagnosis, possibly caused by lack of resources and/or prenatal diagnostic failure. Case Report 1: Infant, 4 months and 22 days old, dyspneic, cyanotic, with fever and vomiting for 3 days, treated as pneumonia. After the second chest radiography, a right CDH was revealed. Surgical correction was performed and removal of Meckel’s diverticulum was surgical findings. The patient was discharged on the 10th days after admission. Case Report 2: Infant, 11 months and 3 days old, distended abdomen, with fever and dyspnea for 2 days, treated as pneumonia. After the second chest radiography, a left CDH was revealed. The patient was submitted to surgery, intestinal loop incarceration without necrosis was observed, and the correction of CDH was performed. The patient was discharged on the 7th day after admission. Discussion: Three cases, between July 2012 and July 2013, were diagnosed at Dom Malam Hospital;2 Cases of CDH, with delayed diagnosis, showed incidence of 66.66%. Delayed diagnosis of these patients with initial hypotheses of pneumonia demonstrated high risk, emphasizing the importance of diagnosis research through observation of the clinical course, the correct imaging interpretation, in order to establish early diagnosis and treatment.

The stomatognathic system (SS) is a functional unit of the body that depends on the balance of several tissues. It consists of various structures, including the temporomandibular joint. Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) can occur due to alterations in the SS. The Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) is a scale used to evaluate and to characterize the TMD Type: no DTM, mild, moderate and severe. The aim is to evaluate the prevalence of signs and symptoms related to TMD in university students of the Parque das Rosas Campus, Universidade Estácio de Sá that practice sports. This investigation was approved (CAAE number 325678413.9.0000.5284). Two hundred eighth students (110 male and 98 female, aged 19 - 35 years) accepted to be in this investigation. All the participants answered a General Questionnaire (GQ) and the FAI. The GQ had questions about the age, sex and the presence of TMD. The FAI was used. A statistical difference (p > 0.05) was not found about the presence of TMD. Among the female, an elevated number of the students with signal or symptoms related to the temporomandibular with statistic significance (p < 0.05) was observed. In the population without TMD, the prevalence of this disorder is higher between male than female. Considering the FAI, among the female students, there is a prevalence of the Mild Type. Considering the evaluation of the type of TMD among the male and female students no difference was found between male and female to the types mild and moderate, however, the prevalence of the severe Type is higher in female than in male with statistical significance. In conclusion, TMD is a relevant clinical condition with an important prevalence among the university students. Moreover, the type of the TMD could be considered due to prevalence of the Type Severe among the women.
