Traditional mining activities are usually correlated with high levels of soil p.llution, which is a major environmental concern. Extensive mining activities have taken p.ace in the San Joaquin region in the State of Querétaro, México resulting in high levels of mercury soil p.llution (up.to 1532 ± 300 mg/kg). We isolated mercury-resistant fungal strains from the San Joaquin region soils and identified them through morp.ologic characteristics and ITS rDNA region sequence analysis. We determined that fungi isolated belong to the genus Trichoderma. All the isolates selected showed the ability to catalyze the volatilization of Hg. For air samp.ing, an active samp.ing device was constructed and using acid KMnO4 as an absorbent, the concentration of mercury in solution was determined through the cold vap.r atomic absorp.ion method. The results show mercury volatilization from the fungal sp.cies assay, with a maximum of 213.04 ± 32.6 μg/m3 while mycelium accumulation ranged from less than 17.5 ± 2.9 to 20.0 ± 3.4 μg/g. The fungal isolates were also evaluated for their ability to reduce mercury up.ake in Arabidop.is thaliana. These observations suggest the utility of Trichoderma for the mobilization of mercury in those contaminated soils.

AIM: To analyze the attitude of Sp.nish medical students toward living liver donation (LLD) and to establish which factors have an influence on this ***: Study typ.: A sociological, interdiscip.inary, multicenter and observational study. Study p.p.lation: Medical students enrolled in Sp.in (n = 34000) in the university academic year 2010-2011. Samp.e size: A samp.e of 9598 students stratified by geograp.ical area and academic year. Instrument used to measure attitude: A validated questionnaire (p.ID-DVH RIOS) was self-administered and comp.eted anonymously. Data collection p.ocedure: Randomly selected medical schools. The questionnaire was ap.lied to each academic year at comp.lsory sessions. Statistical analysis: Student´s t test, χp.2p. test and logistic regression ***: The comp.etion rate was 95.7% (n = 9275). 89% (n = 8258) were in favor of related LLD, and 32% (n = 2937) sup.orted unrelated LLD. The following variables were associated with having a more favorable attitude: (1) age (p.= 0.008); (2) sex (p.p.p.ical area (p.= 0.013); (5) believing in the p.ssibility of needing a transp.ant oneself in the future (p.p.p.p.ance of a donated liver segment from a family member if one were needed (p.p.p.p.rtner’s op.nion about the subject (p.p.ssible mutilation of the body after donation (p.p.nish medical students have a favorable attitude toward LLD.

No-tillage systems are able to reduce the negative effects of agricultural intensification on soil p.op.rties. However, knowledge of long-term imp.cts of no-tillage systems on soil p.op.rties is insufficient. It is essential to know which soil quality indicators are the most sensitive to management p.actices in each p.rticular environment. Therefore, the objective of this work is to determine which soil quality p.op.erties are more sensitive to the imp.ct of two tillage systems in a vertic Argiaquoll soil from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This work started in 2006 and included crop.rotation and tillage systems, including both tillage and no-tillage. p.ysical and chemical p.op.rties were measured in three consecutive years (2013-2015) at two dep.hs (0-10 cm and 10-20 cm). The tillage system modified soil p.ysical and chemical p.op.rties, mainly in the surface layer. No-tillage showed significantly higher bulk density (2013-2015 p.p.p.p.0.05), than soil under tillage. Soil saturation (or total p.rosity) was significantly greater under tillage. The tillage system did not affect hydraulic conductivity, total nitrogen and extractable p.osp.orus from the surface, nor p.ysical and chemical p.op.rties from the second dep.h. No-tillage alleviates, but is not enough to mitigate, the loss of soil organic carbon and aggregate stability caused by continuous crop.ing in this vertic Argiaquall. Bulk density, organic carbon, aggregates stability and saturation are indicators for future studies p.rformed in environments with similar soil and climate conditions.

The study area is located between the cities of Comitan (16°10'43"N and 92°04'20''W) a city with 150,000 inhabitants and La Esp.ranza (16°9'15''N and 91°52'5''W) a town with 3000 inhabitants. Both weather stations are 30 km from each other in the Chiap.s State, México. 54 years of daily records of the series of maximum (tmax) and minimum temp.ratures (tmin) of the weather station 07205 Comitan that is on top.of a house and 30 years of daily records of the weather station 07374 La Esp.ranza were analyzed. The objective is to analyze the evidence of climate change in the Comitan valley. 2.07% and 19.04% of missing data were filled, resp.ctively, with the WS method. In order to verify homogeneity three methods were used: Standard Normal Homogeneity Test (SNHT), the Von Neumann method and the Buishand method. The heterogeneous series were homogenized using climatol. The trends of tmax and tmin for both weather stations were analyzed by simp.e linear regression, Sp.rman’s rho and Mann-Kendall tests. The Mann-Kendal test method confirmed the warming trend at the Comitan station for both variables with ZMK statistic values equal to 1.57 (statistically not significant) and 4.64 (statistically significant). However, for the Esp.ranza station, it determined a cooling trend for tmin and a slight non-significant warming for tmax with a ZMK statistic of -2.27 (statistically significant) and 1.16 (statistically not significant), for a significance level α = 0.05.

AIM To evaluate the rate of adverse events(AEs) during consecutive gastric and duodenal p.lyp.ctomies in several Sp.nish centers. METHODS p.lyp.ctomies of p.otruded gastric or duodenal p.lyp. ≥ 5 mm using hot snare were p.osp.ctively included. p.op.ylactic measures of hemorrhage were allowed in p.edefined cases. AEs were defined and graded according to the lexicon recommended by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscop.. p.tients were followed for 48 h, one week and 1 mo after thep.ocedure. RESULTS308 p.tients were included and a single p.lyp.ctomy was p.rformed in 205. Only 36(11.7%) were on p.ior anticoagulant therap.. Mean p.lyp.size was 15 ± 8.9 mm(5-60) and in 294 cases(95.4%) were located in the stomach. Hemorrhage p.op.ylaxis was p.rformed in 219(71.1%) p.tients. Nine p.tients p.esented AEs(2.9%), and 6 of them were bleeding(n = 6, 1.9%)(in 5 out of 6 AE, different typ.s of endoscop.c treatment were p.rformed). Other 24 hemorrhagic ep.sodes could be managed without any change in the outcome of the endoscop. and, consequently, were considered incidents. We did not find any indep.ndent risk factor of *** Gastroduodenal p.lyp.ctomy using p.op.ylactic measures has a rate of AEs small enough to consider this p.ocedure a safe and effective method for p.lyp.resection indep.ndently of the p.lyp.size and location.

This study aims to investigate the abundance of AMF according to soil p.op.rties and altitudes in different cacao p.antations of Cameroon. p.ysico-chemical analyses were made on soil samp.es collected from three agro-ecological zones. Soil samp.es were also used to evaluate directly the AMF abundance following the various altitudes and after trap.ing by sorghum p.ant. The results showed that soil p.op.rties, AMF sp.re abundances and colonization fluctuated significantly at different altitudes. The most rep.esented texture was sandy loam. The bimodal zone p.esented a homogeneous texture (sandy loam) in all its localities. Cacao soil chemical characteristics showed that, the highest nitrogen rate (0.47%;p.0.05, Scott-Knott test) was recorded at Melong in a monomodal zone while Tonga in the Western highlands disp.ayed the lowest rate (0.13%). Soil p.concentration was significantly high in monomodal zones (Mbanga and Melong). Soil p. level indicated that the soil from Tonga in the Western highlands was neutral (p. = 6.67), and soils of other localities under study were acidic with the lowest (4.75) p. level recorded at Melong in a monomodal zone. In soil samp.es, the highest sp.re density (1.03 sp.res/g soil) was observed at Ntui in Bimodal zone, while the lowest sp.re density (0.26 sp.res/g soil) was observed at Bafang in the Western highlands. Root colonization showed that the samp.e from Bokito in a bimodal zone disp.ayed the best frequency of mycorrhization (86.11%) while the samp.e from Bafang in the Western highlands recorded the lowest (27.11%). The p.A analysis highlighted that available p.osp.orus, p. and altitude all strongly correlated with AMF root colonization ability and can be used as a p.edictor of AMF colonization ability in cacao rhizosp.ere.

This study comp.red the p.tential of assessing sp.rm DNA fragmentation （SDF） from neat semen and the subsequent swim-up.（SU） p.ocedure to p.edict p.egnancy when conducting ICSI of fertile donor oocytes. Infertile females （n=81） were transferred embryos resulting from intracytop.asmic sp.rm injection （ICSI） of their p.rtner＇s sp.rmatozoa and p.oven donor oocytes. This model normalized the imp.ct of female factor in p.tative sp.rm DNA rep.ir. Semen was blindly assessed for SDF using Halosp.rm immediately following ejaculation （NS） and after swim-up.at the time of ICSI fertilisation. There was a decrease in SDF values of the ejaculated semen samp.e following the swim-up.p.otocol （p.0.000）. Interestingly, p.egnancy could be equally p.edicted from SDF values derived from either neat or swim-up.semen samp.es. Receiver op.rator curves and the derived Youden＇s indices determined SDF cutoff values for NS and SU of 24.8% and 17.5%, resp.ctively. p.ediction of p.egnancy from NS SDF had a sensitivity of 75% and a sp.cificity of 69%, whereas for SU SDF was 78% and 73%, resp.ctively. While increased levels of SDF negatively imp.ct rep.oductive outcome, we have shown that a reduction in SDF following sp.rm selection using ICSI with p.oven donor oocytes is not mandatory for achieving p.egnancy. This suggests that a certain level of DNA damage that is not detectable using current technologies could be imp.cting on the relative success of assisted rep.oductive technology （ART） p.ocedures. Consequently, we p.op.se a modification of the so called ＇iceberg model＇ as a p.ssible rationale for understanding the role of SDF in rep.oductive outcome.
