Goat whey is an industry-discarded dairy by-product that has interesting nutritional value and a nutrient composition with important functional potential,where proteins have a high biological value and play an important role in the organism’s ***,the aim of this study was to identify,quantify,concentrate and investigate the capacity of goat whey proteins to perform different biological activities and to evaluate their acute *** proteins were quantified and identified by Bradford,Kjehdal and SDS-PAGe *** activity was performed against Listeria monocytogenes,Salmonella spp.,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and escherichia coli microorganisms and showed MIC ranging from 15 to 120μg mL-1,with the highest inhibition for *** *** activity was performed against human malignant melanoma cells and their proliferation inhibition was up to 66.8%within 72 h of *** highest antioxidant capacity was obtained at concentration 2 mg that showed 29.69%of inhibition of DPPH radical *** acute toxicity test was performed using Artemia franciscana larvae in which whey proteins were able to preserve larval survival throughout ***,we can conclude that goat’s whey has proteins that can play a positive effect on health,with antimicrobial activity and without *** present study highlights the great potential of goat’s whey to be developed as a safe biopreservative or as a functional ingredient in the food industry.

Rainfall partitioning in young clonal plantations eucalyptus species in a subtropical environment,and implications for water and forest management

Different canopy characteristics of industrial eucalyptus may lead to differences in water evaporation and availability to *** study aims to understand rainfall partitioning in a young clonal plantation(age of 2-4.5 years)of three eucalyptus species by relating tree parameters:diameter at breast height,total height,and leaf area *** measured rainfall,throughfall,stemflow and litter interception,along with the tree *** eucalyptus trees had rainfall interception varying between 22 mm(for 178 mm of rainfall)and 42 mm(for 87 mm of te rainfall),throughfall between 106 mm(for 186 mm of rainfall)and 44 mm(for 74 mm of rainfall),and stemflow between 0.5 mm(for 92 mm of rainfall)and 1.4 mm(for 24 mm of rainfall).For the three species,rainfall interception varied between 12 and 48%,throughfall between 57 and 90%,and stemflow between 0.3 and 5.4%.The coefficient of determination between interception and rainfall was 0.76,indicating interception depends on other variables,possibly including antecedent rainfall,rainfall intensity,and *** decreased with a reduction in leaf area index caused by eucalyptus *** *** had 0.75 mm of throughfall per 1 mm of rainfall,whereas in *** and e saligna,these ratios were 0.71 and 0.68,*** in *** and *** had a higher positive relationship with the diameter at breast height of the trees,whereas in *** the highest relationship was with the *** results contribute to establishing management strategies,such as choosing suitable eucalyptus species to local climate,and to improve the synchronization of crop-demand versus soil-water-supply while maintaining streamflow to fulfill ecological and production needs.

entropy model to assess sediment resuspension probability and trap efficiency of small dams

In the Brazilian drylands, there are tens of thousands of small dams. Despite their paramount importance to the rural population, they are rarely monitored. Water demand increases with time while, simultaneously, siltation reduces reservoir water capacity and availability. Reservoir siltation models are, therefore, mandatory to manage the numerous ungauged small dams in these *** objective of the current study is to improve sediment trap efficiency(Te) modeling by including resuspension as a key probabilistic process. The Shannon entropy was used to estimate the sediment resuspension probability, which was merged with the Camp model and generated the ReTSeD entropy model. To validate the ReTSeD model, an experimental check dam(eCD, 300 m3), located in the Gilbu es desertification site, Brazil, was monitored hourly during one hydrological year(July 2018-July 2019). Measurements show that the annual volumetric decline of the check dam was 12%; and that the average trap efficiency equaled 86%. Only 9.5% of the hourly sediment concentration outflow exceeded the average plus one standard deviation, showing that the reservoir is well mixed; a fact which highlights the relevance of the resuspension process. Three empirical models failed to mimic the experimental results: Churchill(Te = 99%), Brune(Te = 75%), and Maryland(Te = 94%). According to the ReTSeD entropy model, the resuspension probability during the experiment was 10%and Te = 81%, a value only 6% below the measured one. The Camp model simulated Te = 89%, only 3%higher than the measured value, but confirmed the Camp model’s tendency to overestimate Te due to a disregard of resuspension. The deterministic model showed low sensitivity concerning the hydrodynamic effects, whereas the entropy formulation proved to be more consistent with physical behavior: the resuspension probability clearly increased and trap efficiency decreased with rising reservoir discharge.

Induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSC)technology has propelled the field of stem cells biology,providing new cells to explore the molecular mechanisms of pluripotency,cancer biology and aging.A major advantage of human iPSC,compared to the pluripotent embryonic stem cells,is that they can be generated from virtually any embryonic or adult somatic cell type without destruction of human *** addition,iPSC can be generated from somatic cells harvested from normal individuals or patients,and used as a cellular tool to unravel mechanisms of human development and to model diseases in a manner not possible *** these fundamental aspects of human biology and physiology that are revealed using iPSC or iPSC-derived cells,these cells hold an immense potential for cell-based therapies,and for the discovery of new or personalized pharmacological treatments for many ***,we review some of the current challenges and concerns about iPSC *** introduce the potential held by iPSC for research and development of novel health-related *** briefly present the efforts made by the scientific and clinical communities to create the necessary guidelines and regulations to achieve the highest quality standards in the procedures for iPSC generation,characterization and long-term ***,we present some of the audacious and pioneer clinical trials in progress with iPSC-derived cells.

Quantitative Study on Nonmetallic Inclusion Particles in Steels by Automatic Image Analysis With extreme Values Method

The presence of nonmetallic inclusion particles which appear during steelmaking process is harmful to the properties of steels, which is mainly as a function of some aspects such as size, volume fraction, shape, and distribution of these particles. The automatic image analysis technique is one of the most important tools for the quantitative determination of these parameters. The classical Student approach and the extreme Values Method （eVM） were used for the inclusion size and shape determination and the evaluation of distance between the inclusion particles. The results thus obtained indicated that there were significant differences in the characteristics of the inclusion particles in the analyzed products. Both methods achieved results with some differences, indicating that eVM could be used as a faster and more reliable statistical methodology.

Hyperonic neutron stars: reconciliation between nuclear properties and NICeR and LIGO/VIRGO results

Using an extended version of quantum hadrodynamics,I propose a new microscopic equation of state(eoS)that is able to correctly reproduce the main properties of symmetric nuclear matter at the saturation density,as well as produce massive neutron stars and satisfactory results for the radius and the tidal parameter.I show that this eoS can reproduce at least a 2.00 solar mass neutron star,even when hyperons are *** constraints about the radius of a 2.00 M_(⊙) and the minimum mass that enables a direct Urea effect are also checked.

Chinese Medicine Pattern Differentiation and Its Implications for Clinical Practice

Chinese medicine practitioners apply the differentiation reasoning for decision-making. The wide scope of Chinese medicine intervention provides coverage of methods and techniques with applications to primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention. The rapid evolution of mathematical and computational techniques allowed the implementation of several models for pattern differentiation that were tested for several physiologic systems. Concurrently, it is argued that pattern differentiation might improve the efficacy of either traditional or conventional medical interventions. This article reviewed the influence of pattern differentiation into clinical practice organized by medical field： general pattern differentiation; genitourinary （recurrent cystitis）; cardiovascular （coronary heart disease; arterial hypertension; angina pectoris）; neurology （stroke）; surgery; metabolic （diabetes mellitus）; hepatic （cirrhosis）; gastrointestinal （chronic superficial gastritis）; orthopedic （low back pain; rheumatoid arthritis; cervical spondylosis; elbow arthritis）; oncology （gastric mucosal dysplasia; lung cancer）; gynecologic and obstetric manifestations （nausea and vomiting）. The reviewed studies presented achievements that have contributed to the integration of Chinese medicine and evidence-based medicine in the treatment of many mild and severe diseases. Target diseases considered as major public health problems were also investigated and the results are promising regarding the possibility to treat guided by pattern differentiation.

A Differential evolution Approach for Protein Folding Using a Lattice Model

Protein folding is a relevant computational problem in Bioinformatics, for which many heuristic algorithms have been proposed. This work presents a methodology for the application of differential evolution （De） to the problem of protein folding, using the bi-dimensional hydrophobic-polar model. De is a relatively recent evolutionary algorithm, and has been used successfully in several engineering optimization problems, usually with continuous variables. We introduce the concept of genotype-phenotype mapping in De in order to provide a mapping between the real-valued vector and an actual folding. The methodology is detailed and several experiments with benchmarks are done. We compared the results with other similar implementations. The proposed De has shown to be competitive, statistically consistent and very promising.

Ischaemic heart disease(IHD)is a major cause of morbidity and mortality *** there have been major advances in this field,these patients are still a higher risk *** such,strategies to mitigate risk and tailor secondary prevention measures are of the utmost *** rehabilitation(CR),encompassing several domains including exercise training,cardiovascular risk factor optimization,nutritional and psychological assessments,as well as other ancillary interventions has shown to be one of the pillars in the contemporary management of patients with ***,CR is associated with several benefits in this population,ranging from functional capacity to improvements in *** this,there are still several issues concerning the optimal application of CR which are still not fully ascertained,such as lack of referral and completion,as well as questions related to programme design(particularly among patients with multiple comorbidities).In this review,we aim at presenting a pragmatic overview on the current role of CR in the management of individuals with IHD,while also discussing some of the caveats in the current data,as well as future concepts which could help improve the uptake and personalization of this pivotal time-tested intervention.

Cyst fluid glucose: An alternative to carcinoembryonic antigen for pancreatic mucinous cysts

Pancreatic cystic lesions(PCLs) have been increasingly recognized in clinical practice. Although inflammatory cysts(pseudocysts) are the most common PCLs detected by cross-sectional imaging modalities in symptomatic patients in a setting of acute or chronic pancreatitis, incidental pancreatic cysts with no symptoms or history of pancreatitis are usually neoplastic cysts. For these lesions,it is imperative to identify mucinous cysts(intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms and mucinous cystic neoplasms) due to the risk of their progression to malignancy. However, no single imaging modality alone is sufficient for a definitive diagnosis of all PCLs. The cyst fluid obtained by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration provides additional information for the differential diagnosis of PCLs. Current recommendations suggest sending cyst fluid for cytology evaluation and measurement of carcinoembryonic antigen(CeA) levels. Unfortunately, the sensitivity of cytology is greatly limited, and cyst fluid CeA has demonstrated insufficient accuracy as a predictor of mucinous cysts. More recently, cyst fluid glucose has emerged as an alternative to CeA for distinguishing between mucinous and nonmucinous lesions. Herein, the clinical utility of cyst fluid glucose and CeA for the differential diagnosis of PCLs was evaluated.
