Owing to the tremendous demands for high-resolution pixel-scale thin lenses in displays,we developed a graphenebased ultrathin square subpixel lens(USSL)capable of electrically tuneable focusing(ETF)with a performance competitive with that of a typical mechanical refractive *** fringe field due to a voltage bias in the graphene proves that our ETF-USSL can focus light onto a single point regardless of the wavelength of the visible light—by controlling the carriers at the Dirac point using radially patterned graphene layers,the focal length of the planar structure can be adjusted without changing the curvature or position of the lens.A high focusing efficiency of over 60% at a visible wavelength of 405 nm was achieved with a lens thickness of hange of 19.42% in the focal length with a 9% increase in transmission was exhibited under a driving *** design is first presented as an ETF-USSL that can be controlled in pixel units of flat panel displays for visible *** can be easily applied as an add-on to high resolution,slim displays and provides a new direction for the application of multifunctional autostereoscopic displays.

Optical shaping of the polarization anisotropy in a laterally coupled quantum dot dimer

We find that the emission from laterally coupled quantum dots is strongly polarized along the coupled direction[110],and its polarization anisotropy can be shaped by changing the orientation of the polarized *** the nonresonant excitation is linearly polarized perpendicular to the coupled direction[110],excitons(X_(1) and X_(2))and local biexcitons(X_(1)X_(1) and X_(2)X_(2))from the two separate quantum dots(QD_(1) and QD_(2))show emission anisotropy with a small degree of polarization(10%).On the other hand,when the excitation polarization is parallel to the coupled direction [110],the polarization anisotropy of excitons,local biexcitons,and coupled biexcitons(X_(1)X_(2))is enhanced with a degree of polarization of 74%.We also observed a consistent anisotropy in the time-resolved *** decay rate of the polarized photoluminescence intensity along the coupled direction is relatively high,but the anisotropic decay rate can be modified by changing the orientation of the polarized *** energy difference is also observed between the polarized emission spectra parallel and perpendicular to the coupled direction,and it increases by up to three times by changing the excitation polarization orientation from [110] to [110].These results suggest that the dipole-dipole interaction across the two separate quantum dots is mediated and that the anisotropic wavefunctions of the excitons and biexcitons are shaped by the excitation polarization.

The application of Li metal anodes in rechargeable batteries is impeded by safety issues arising from the severe volume changes and formation of dendritic Li ***‐dimensional hollow carbon is receiving increasing attention as a host material capable of accommodating Li metal inside its cavity;however,uncontrollable and nonuniform deposition of Li remains a *** this study,we synthesize metal–organic framework‐derived carbon microcapsules with heteroatom clusters(Zn and Ag)on the capsule walls and it is demonstrated that Ag‐assisted nucleation of Li metal alters the outward‐to‐inward growth in the microcapsule ***‐incorporated microcapsules are prepared via chemical etching of zeolitic imidazole framework‐8 polyhedra and are subsequently decorated with Ag by a galvanic displacement reaction between Ag^(+) and metallic *** introduced Ag significantly reduces the energy barrier and increases the reaction rate for Li nucleation in the microcapsule host upon Li *** combined electrochemical,microstructural,and computational studies,we verify the beneficial role of Ag‐assisted Li nucleation in facilitating inward growth inside the cavity of the microcapsule host and,in turn,enhancing electrochemical *** study provides new insights into the design of reversible host materials for practical Li metal batteries.

Effect of esterification reaction of citric acid and ethylene glycol on the formation of multi-shelled cobalt oxide powders with superior electrochemical properties

In this study, for the first time, polymeric precursors have been used in the preparation of yolk-shell powders using a large-scale spray drying process. An esterification reaction between the carboxyl group of citric acid and the hydroxyl group of ethylene glycol inside the droplet produced organic polymers during the drying process of the droplet. During the spray drying process, the polymeric precursors enabled the formation of multi-shell cobalt oxide yolk- shell powders with superior electrochemical properties. The maximum number of shells of the particles in the yolk-shell powders post-treated at 300, 400, and 500 ℃ were six, five, and four, respectively. The initial discharge capacities of the cobalt oxide yolk-shell powders post-treated at 300, 400, and 500 ℃ were 1,188, 1,331, and 1,110 mAh·g^-1, and their initial charge capacities were 868, 1,005, and 798 mAh·g^-1, respectively. The discharge capacities of the powders post- treated at 300, 400, and 500 ℃ after 100 cycles were 815, 958, and 670 mAh·g^-1, respectively and their corresponding capacity retentions measured after the first cycles were 92%, 93%, and 82%, respectively. The pure phase Co3O4 yolk-shell powders post-treated at 400 ℃ had low charge transfer resistance and high lithium-ion diffusion rate.

We report on a simple and efficient method for the selective positioning of Au/DNA hybrid nanocircuits using a sequential combination of electron-beam lithography(EBL),plasma ashing,and a molecular patterning *** nanostructures produced by the EBL and ashing process could be uniformly formed over a 12.6 in 2 substrate with sub-10 nm patterning with good pattern *** addition,DNA molecules were immobilized on the selectively nanopatterned regions by alternating surface coating procedures of 3-(aminopropyl)triethoxysilane(APS)and diamond like carbon(DLC),followed by deposition of DNA molecules into a well-defined single DNA *** single DNA nanowires were used not only for fabricating Au/DNA hybrid nanowires by the conjugation of Au nanoparticles with DNA,but also for the formation of Au/DNA hybrid *** nanocircuits prepared from Au/DNA hybrid nanowires demonstrate conductivities of up to 4.3×10^(5) S/m in stable electrical *** selective and precise positioning method capable of controlling the size of nanostructures may find application in making sub-10 nm DNA wires and metal/DNA hybrid nanocircuits.

Comparison of anterior segment optical coherence tomography findings in acanthamoeba keratitis and herpetic epithelial keratitis

This study is to investigate the characteristic features of Acanthamoeba keratitis（AK） that differentiating it from herpetic epithelial keratitis（hEK） using anterior segment optical coherence tomography（AS-OCT）. Medical records of three eyes of each AK and herpetic keratitis who had AS-OCT examination were reviewed in this study. Slitlamp biomicroscopy and AS-OCT was performed on the initial visit and on every follow-up visits in all patients. In all three AK cases, reflective bands in the corneal stroma that correspond to the area of radial keratoneuritis were observed. The depth of the reflective bands varied in each case. After AK treatment, slit-lamp biomicroscopy confirmed that radial keratoneuritis had resolved and AS-OCT confirmed that reflective bands in the corneal stroma had also disappeared in all patients. Unlike the AS-OCT results found in AK, highly reflective hEK lesions were observed only in the subepithelial area, not in the stroma. AS-OCT seems to be helpful analyzing the specific depth of the lesion which enables to distinguish AK from hEK.

Effect of characteristics and distribution of Mg_(17)Al_(12)precipitates on tensile and bending properties of high-Al-containing Mg alloys

This study investigates the effect of characteristics and distribution of Mg_(17)Al_(12)precipitates on the uniaxial tensile and three-point bending properties of extruded Mg alloys containing high Al *** extruded Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.3Mn(AZ91)alloy contains lamellar-structured Mg_(17)Al_(12)discontinuous precipitates along the grain boundaries,which are formed via static precipitation during natural air *** extruded Mg–11Al–1Zn–0.3Mn(AZ111)alloy contains spherical Mg_(17)Al_(12)precipitates at the grain boundaries and inside the grains,which are formed via dynamic precipitation during *** to inhomogeneous distribution of precipitates,the AZ111 alloy consists of two different precipitate regions:precipitate-rich region with numerous precipitates and finer grains and precipitate-scarce region with a few precipitates and coarser *** AZ111 alloy exhibits a higher tensile strength than the AZ91 alloy because its smaller grain size and more abundant precipitates result in stronger grain-boundary hardening and precipitation hardening effects,***,the tensile elongation of the AZ111 alloy is lower than that of the AZ91 alloy because the weak cohesion between the dynamic precipitates and the matrix facilitates the crack initiation and *** bending,a macrocrack initiates on the outer surface of bending specimen in both *** AZ111 alloy exhibits higher bending yield strength and lower failure bending strain than the AZ91 *** bending specimens of the AZ91 alloy have similar bending formability,whereas those of the AZ111 alloy exhibit considerable differences in bending formability and crack propagation behavior,depending on the distribution and number density of precipitates in the *** bending specimens of the AZ111 alloy,it is found that the failure bending strain(ε_(f,bending))is inversely proportional to the area fraction of precipitates in the outer zone of bending specimen(A_(ppt)),with a relation

Numerical simulation for thermal response test performance in closed-loop vertical ground heat exchanger

In this study, a series of numerical analyses was performed in order to evaluate the performance of full-scale closed-loop vertical ground heat exchangers constructed in Wonju, South Korea. The circulating hDPE pipe, borehole and surrounding ground formation were modeled using FLUENT, a finite-volume method (FVM) program, for analyzing the heat transfer process of the ground heat exchanger system. Two user-defined functions (UDFs) accounting for the difference in the temperature of the circulating inflow and outflow fluid and the variation of ground temperature with depth were adopted in the FLUENT modeling. The thermal conductivities of grouts (cement vs. bentonite) measured in laboratory were used as input values in the numerical analyses to compare the thermal efficiency of the cement and bentonite grouts used for installing the closed-loop vertical ground heat exchanger. A series of numerical analyses was carried out to simulate in-situ thermal response tests performed in the construction site. From the comparison between the in-situ thermal response test results and numerical simulations, the average thermal conductivity of the ground formation in the construction site is back-calculated as approximately 4 W/mK. This value can be used in evaluating the long-term performance of the closed-loop vertical ground heat ex changer.

Electrical Stimulation of Auricular Acupressure for Dry Eye:A Randomized Controlled-Clinical Trial

Objective： To evaluate the clinical efficacy of electrical stimulation（ES） of auricular acupressure on reducing the ocular symptoms and signs before and after treatment for dry eye. Methods： The inclusion criteria were the tear film break-up time（TFBUT） below 5 s and a Schirmer test-Ⅰ below 5 mm in dry eyes with ocular symptoms for at least 6 months. Subjects were randomized into a treatment group（50 cases） with continuous low frequency ES under auricular acupressure at acupoints and a no ES under auricular acupressure（no-ES, control group, 50 cases） on the same acupoints. Auricular acupressure were stimulated with ES at 4 master points of both ears, which were performed twice a week for 4 weeks at each point for 30 s. The ocular symptoms, the TFBUT, and Schirmer test-Ⅰ were evaluated before and after this procedure. Results： There were significantly better scores in TFBUT（P=0.032）, the Schirmer test-Ⅰ（P=0.044） and ocular symptoms（P=0.029） at 3 months post-treatment in the treatment group than in the control group. The total effective rate in the treatment group was accomplished in 41（82%） of the 50 cases of dry eye. Conclusions： Auricular acupressure with ES at auricular acupoint improves ocular symptoms and signs of dry eye for a period of at least 3 months.
