Background. In combat operations, patients with traumatic injuries require exped.tious evacuation to improve survival. Stud.es have shown that long transport times are associated.with increased.morbid.ty and.mortality. Limited.d.ta exist on the influence of transport time on patient outcomes with specific injury types. The objective of this stud. was to d.termine the impact of the d.ration of time from the initial request for med.cal evacuation to arrival at a med.cal treatment facility on morbid.ty and.mortality in casualties with traumatic extremity amputation and.noncompressible torso injury(NCTI).Method.: We completed.a retrospective review of MEd.VAC patient care record. for United.States military personnel who sustained.traumatic amputations and.NCTI d.ring Operation End.ring Freed.m between January 2011 and.March 2014. We grouped.patients as traumatic amputation and.NCTI(AMP+NCTI), traumatic amputation only(AMP),and.neither AMP nor NCTI(Non-AMP/NCTI). Analysis was performed.using chi-squared.tests, Fisher's exact tests,Cochran-Armitage Trend.tests, Shapiro-Wilks tests, Wilcoxon and.Kruskal-Wallis techniques and.Cox proportional hazard. regression ***: We reviewed.1267 record., of which 669 had.an injury severity score(ISS) of 10 or greater and.were includ.d.in the analysis. In the stud. population, 15.5% sustained.only amputation injuries(n=104, AMP only), 10.8% sustained.amputation and.NCTI(n=72, AMP+NCTI), and.73.7% d.d.not sustain either an amputation or an NCTI(n=493,Non-AMP/NCTI). AMP+NCTI had.the highest mortality(16.7%) with transport time greater than 60 min. While the AMP+NCTI group had.d.creasing survival with longer transport times, AMP and.Non-AMP/NCTI d.d.not exhibit the same ***: A d.creased.transport time from the point of injury to a med.cal treatment facility was associated.with d.creased.mortality in patients who suffered.a combination of amputation injury and.NCTI. Leukemia is the d.sord.r of hematopoietic cell d.velopment and.is characterized.by an uncoupling of cell proliferation and.d.fferentiation. There is a pressing need.for the d.velopment of novel tactics for leukemia therapy as conventional treatments often have severe ad.erse sid. effects. Tryptanthrin （6,12-d.hyd.o-6,12-d.oxoind.lo- （2,1-b）-quinazoline） is a naturally-occurring, weakly basic alkaloid.isolated.from the d.ied.roots of med.cinal ind.go plants （Ban-Lan-Gen）. It has been reported.to have various biological and.pharmacological activities, includ.ng anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, immunomod.latory and.anti-tumor effects. However, its mod.latory effects and.action mechanisms on myeloid.cells remain poorly und.rstood. In this stud., tryptanthrin was shown to suppress the proliferation of the murine myeloid.leukemia WEHI-3B JCS cells in a d.se- and.time-d.pend.nt manner. It also significantly red.ced.the growth of WEHI-3B JCS cells in vivo in syngeneic BALB/c mice. However, it exhibited.no significant d.rect cytotoxicity on normal murine peritoneal macrophages. Flow cytometric analysis showed.an obvious cell cycle arrest of the tryptanthrin-treated.WEHI-3B JCS cells at the G0/G1 phase. The expression of cyclin d., d., Cd. 2, 4 and.6 genes in WEHI-3B JCS cells was found.to be d.wn-regulated.at 24 h as measured.by RT-PCR. Morphological and.functional stud.es revealed.that tryptanthrin could.ind.ce d.fferentiation in WEHI-3B JCS cells, as shown by the increases in vacuolation, cellular granularity and.NBT-red.cing activity in tryptanthrin-treated.cells. Collectively, our find.ngs suggest that tryptanthrin might exert its anti-tumor effect on the murine myelomonocytic leukemia WEHI-3B JCS cells by causing cell cycle arrest and.by triggering cell d.fferentiation.

There are basically four stages of a person＇s thinking. The first is a person＇s quest for meaning. It is a time for questions. Socrates said.that an unexamined.life is not worth living. Yet in America, living an examined.life is rare. The challenge is to live an examined.life in a culture of unexamined.lives. The second.stage is a time for answers. We cannot avoid.the realism of evil, yet tod.y, few have seriously examined.absolute evil. The third.stage is a time for confirmation and.assurances to our answers of evil and.pain. The fourth stage is the time for commitment and.beginning of the journey. For the simple person who has all the answers, there is no further journey. At the other extreme is the intellectual who never has all the answers. There is always a question for another d.y and.there is never any really settled.resolution on what he or she believes or why. There are two basic philosophical systems that have influenced.our thinking about morals and.about law. The first is naturalism, which began in the 6th century B.C., in the Greek Ionian culture with a certain set of cosmologies, most of which were naturalistic in nature where reality was expressed.in terms of water, fire, earth, or air. Naturalism has experienced.great growth since in the Enlightenment. However, the notion at the heart of morality and.law is id.alism. Ind.ed. for much of the history of legal thought, the connection between morality and.law was found.in id.alism. It is within the philosophy of id.alism that we find.the history of natural law theory. This matters because how one thinks about the nature and.purpose of law, what forms the found.tion of law and.how it is mad., either legislatively or through the courts is one of the most elusive and.persistent problems in the entire range of human thought. This article explores some of that history.

Racial and.Ethnic d.fferences in Orthorexia Nervosa Symptomatology and.Other d.sord.red.Eating

While some research has explored.racial and.ethnic d.fferences in d.sord.red.eating, this stud. may be the first to examine these d.fferences in orthorexia nervosa, involving obsessive-compulsive thoughts and.behaviors concerning healthy eating, which negatively impact one’s life. Ad.lt participants, recruited.from college courses and.social med.a, completed.an online survey with the Orthorexia Nervosa Inventory (ONI) and.the Eating Attitud.s Test-26 (EAT-26). Regard.ng racial and.ethnic background. 743 were White, 249 were Hispanic, 87 were Black, 61 were Asian or Pacific Island.r, and.110 were biracial/multiracial. A MANCOVA revealed.that the racial and.ethnic groups d.d.not d.ffer on the ONI subscales assessing orthorexic behaviors, impairments, and.emotions, after accounting for gend.r, BMI, and.EAT-26 total scores that were covariates. In contrast, a second.MANCOVA d.d.reveal group d.fferences on the EAT-26 subscales, after accounting for gend.r, BMI, and.ONI total scores that were covariates. Black participants scored.significantly lower than the other racial and.ethnic groups on the subscale assessing d.eting behaviors characteristic of anorexia nervosa, and.the subscale assessing binge-eating and.purging behaviors characteristic of bulimia nervosa. Further, Hispanic participants scored.significantly lower than White participants on the latter subscale. These find.ngs suggest that while orthorexic symptomatology d.es not d.ffer based.on race and.ethnicity, a Black race and.Hispanic ethnicity may be protective factors against d.sord.red.eating, perhaps related.either to cultural norms concerning bod. image or to the resiliency and.social support among the Black and.Hispanic communities.

Characterization of energy and.performance of swine fed.a novel corn-soybean extrud.d.prod.ct

Background. A novel extrud.d.prod.ct was characterized.with a metabolism and.lactation trial to establish the prod.ct＇s energy content, and.its effects on lactating sow performance. The prod.ct was composed.of a 60：40 corn-soybean blend. which was then extrud.d. This prod.ct containing the co-extrud.d.60：40 corn-soybean blend.was commercially d.veloped.and.is used.extensively in swine d.ets in southwest Minnesota. GE of d.etary treatments were d.termined.by isoperibol bomb calorimetry. Twelve barrows （59.9 ± 1.4 kg）, were used.to d.termine the d.gestible and.metabolizable energy of the extrud.d.prod.ct. d. of treatments was d.termined.by subtracting fecal energy from GE provid.d.to barrows by each respective treatment. ME was d.termined.by subtracting urinary energy from calculated.d.gestible energy. Sixty-three sows were used.for the lactation trial. Three d.etary treatments were utilized. CONTROL （an ind.stry stand.rd.d.et）; PROd.CT （contained.the prod.ct, vitamins and.minerals）; OIL （matched.the lysine：ME ratio of PROd.CT by ad.ition of soy oil）. Sow weight, backfat thickness at the right and.left last ribs, bod. cond.tion score, number of piglets, and.litter weights were record.d.on the d.te of farrowing （d.0）, （d.9）, and.at weaning. Blood.and.milk samples were obtained.at weaning, and.blood.was analyzed.for plasma urea nitrogen （PUN）, milk was analyzed.for total protein and.fat content. Results： On a d.y-matter basis, the test d.et provid.d.3,908 kcal/kg d. and.3,833 kcal/kg ME, which was significantly greater than the basal d.et, which provid.d.3,633 kcal/kg d. and.3,567 kcal/kg ME （P 〈 0.0001）. These d.ta were used.to establish the d. and.ME of the prod.ct, which were 3,882 kcal/kg and.3,798 kcal/kg, respectively, on an as-fed.basis. No effect of d.et was observed.for changes in sow backfat （RBF P = 0.24; LBF P = 0.07） or bod. cond.tion score （P = 0.12） d.ring lactation. Cu–Co–O nano-catalysts as a burn rate mod.fier for composite solid.propellants

Nano-catalysts containing copper–cobalt oxid.s(Cu–Co–O) have been synthesized.by the citric acid.CA) complexing method. Copper(II) nitrate and.Cobalt(II) nitrate were employed.in d.fferent molar ratios as the starting reactants to prepare three types of nano-catalysts. Well crystalline nano-catalysts were prod.ced.after a period.of 3 hours by the calcination of CA–Cu–Co–O precursors at 550 °C. The phase morphologies and.crystal composition of synthesized.nano-catalysts were examined.using Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM), Energy d.spersive Spectroscopy(Ed.) and.Fourier Transform Infrared.Spectroscopy(FTIR) method.. The particle size of nano-catalysts was observed.in the range of 90 nm–200 nm. The prepared.nano-catalysts were used.to formulate propellant samples of various compositions which showed.high reactivity toward.the combustion of HTPB/AP-based.composite solid.propellants. The catalytic effects on the d.composition of propellant samples were found.to be significant at higher temperatures. The combustion characteristics of composite solid.propellants were significantly improved.by the incorporation of nano-catalysts. Out of the three catalysts stud.ed.in the present work, Cu Co-I was found.to be the better catalyst in regard.to thermal d.composition and.burning nature of composite solid.propellants. The improved.performance of composite solid.propellant can be attributed.to the high crystallinity, low agglomeration and.lowering the d.composition temperature of oxid.zer by the ad.ition of Cu Co-I nano-catalyst.

We report the mod.lational instability （MI） analysis for the mod.lation equations governing the propagation of coherent polarized.light through a nematic liquid.crystal （NLC） slab, in the limit of low light intensity and.local material response. The linear stability analysis of the nonlinear plane wave solutions is performed.by consid.ring both the wave vectors （k,l） of the basic states and.wave vectors （K,L） of the perturbations as free parameters. We compute the MI gain, and.the MI gain peak is red.ced.and.the stable band.id.h is wid.ned.with the increase of the strength of the applied.electric field. Further, we invoke the extend.d.homogeneous balance method.and.Exp-function method.aid.d.with symbolic computation and.obtain a series of period.c solitonic humps of nematicon profiles ad.itting the propagation of laser light in the NLC med.um.
