This article makes a reinterpretation of Lu Xun's acclaimed prose poetry collection Yecao (Wild grass), written between 1924-27, by reading it in conjunct!on with a rediscovered prototype consisting of seven pieces published in Guomin gongbao (The citizen's gazette) between August and September 1919 under the title Ziyan ziyu (Talking to oneself). Lu Xunl baihua prose style had advanced considerably in the interim, but the author discerns a degree of thematic overlap between the two collections, on the basis of which he proposes answers to key questions that have been asked about Yecao since its first publication, concluding that it is still as fresh and avant-garde a collection to readers today as it was nearly one hundred years ago.

This article begins by articulating a new perspective on the translation of Chinese poetry, arguing that the most important of the three well-known ＂difficulties＂ in the translation of Chinese poetry outlined by Yan Fu 严复（1854-1921）--namely, faithfulness （xin 信）, conveyance （da 达）, and elegance （ya 雅）--should in fact be the one that is least often discussed, da. The author principally interprets da as ＂conveying＂ the mood and then the meaning of the original work into the target language. This position is then illustrated by specific examples from Lu Xun＇s （1881-1936） emotive and highly allusive classical-style poetry, engaging issues regarding its annotation, exegesis, and translation which have arisen in Chinese literary and scholarly circles. The author suggests that since the deployment of affective images has often been designated as an essential and distinguishing characteristic of Chinese poetry, the translation of Chinese poetry into Western languages must make an effort to engage with the original images--not simply resorting to paraphrases or substitutions--and concludes that poetry in translation can and does have important and lasting effects on the literature of the target language.

Hox and ParaHox genes constitute two families of developmental regulators that pattern the Anterior-Posterior body axis in all bilaterians. The members of these two groups of genes are usually arranged in genomic clusters and work in a coordinated fashion, both in space and in time. While the mechanistic aspects of their action are relatively well known, it is still unclear how these systems evolved. For instance, we still need a proper model of how the Hox and ParaHox clusters were assembled over time. This problem is due to the shortage of information on gene complements for many taxa （mainly basal metazoans） and the lack of a consensus phylogenetic model of animal relationships to which we can relate our new findings. Recently, several studies have shown that the Acoelomorpha most probably represent the first offshoot of the Bilateria. This finding has prompted us, and others, to study the Hox and ParaHox complements in these animals, as well as their activity during development. In this review, we analyze how the current knowledge of Hox and ParaHox genes in the Acoelomorpha is shaping our view of bilaterian evolution.

Primary splenic lesions are rare entities among which littoral cell angioma(LCA) is a recently described, uncommon vascular lesion that is unique to the spleen. It has heretofore been described primarily in pathologic series and has been found mostly to behave as a benign entity. A few reports of malignant variants have been reported. We present a case report of a solitary LCA discovered after splenectomy for an incidentally discovered splenic lesion, along with a literature review.

Chaotic genetic patchiness （CGP） refers to surprising patterns of spatial and temporal genetic structure observed in some marine species at a scale where genetic variation should be efficiently homogenized by gene flow via larval dispersal. Here we review and discuss 4 mechanisms that could generate such unexpected patterns： selection, sweepstakes reproductive success, collective dispersal, and temporal shifts in local population dynamics. First, we review examples where genetic differentiation at specific loci was driven by diversifying selection, which was historically the first process invoked to explain CGP. Second, we turn to neutral demographic processes that may drive genome-wide effects, and whose effects on CGP may be enhanced when they act together. We discuss how sweepstakes reproductive success accelerates genetic drift and can thus generate genetic structure, provided that gene flow is not too strong. Collective dispersal is another mechanism whereby genetic structure can be maintained regardless of dispersal intensity, because it may prevent larval cohorts from becoming entirely mixed. Theoretical analyses of both the sweepstakes and the collective dispersal ideas are presented. Finally, we discuss an idea that has received less attention than the other ones just mentioned, namely temporal shifts in local population dynamics.

As secondary complications remain a significant cause of morbidity and mortality amongst hospitalised trauma patients,the need to develop novel approaches by which to identify patients at risk of adverse outcome is becoming increasingly *** on the idea that patients who experience"poor"outcome post trauma elicit a response to injury that is distinct from those who experience"good"outcome,tailored therapeutics is an emerging concept aimed at improving current treatment regimens by promoting patient-specific *** use of recent advancements in the fields of genomics,proteomics and metabolomics,numerous groups have undertaken a systems-based approach to analysing the acute immune and inflammatory response to major traumatic and thermal injury in an attempt to uncover a single or combination of biomarkers that can identify patients at risk of adverse *** results are encouraging,with all three approaches capable of discriminating patients with"good"outcome from those who develop nosocomial infections,sepsis and multiple organ failure,with differences apparent in blood samples acquired as early as 2 h post *** particular,genomic data is proving to be highly informative,identifying patients at risk of"poor"outcome with a higher degree of sensitivity and specificity than statistical models built upon data obtained from existing anatomical and physiological scoring ***,focussing predominantly upon human-based research,we provide an overview of the findings of studies that have investigated the immune and inflammatory response to major traumatic and thermal injury at the genomic,protein and metabolite level,and consider both the diagnostic and prognostic potential of these approaches.

Sediment fingerprinting in fluvial systems:review of tracers,sediment sources and mixing models

Suspended sediments in fluvial systems originate from a myriad of diffuse and point sources,with the relative contribution from each source varying over time and *** process of sediment fingerprinting focuses on developing methods that enable discrete sediment sources to be identified from a composite sample of suspended *** review identifies existing methodological steps for sediment fingerprinting including fluvial and source sampling,and critically compares biogeochcmical and physical tracers used in fingerprinting *** of applying different mixing models to the same source data are explored using data from 41 catchments across Europe,Africa,Australia,Asia,and North and South *** application of seven commonly used mixing models to two case studies from the US(North Fork Broad River watershed) and France(BIcone watershed) with local and global(genetic algorithm) optimization methods identified all outputs remained in the acceptable range of error defined by the original *** propose future sediment fingerprinting studies use models that combine the best explanatory parameters provided by the modified Collins(using correction factors) and Hughes(relying on iterations involving all data,and not only their mean values) models with optimization using genetic algorithms to best predict the relative contribution of sediment sources to fluvial systems.

In this paper,an efficient,convenient and explicit method based on the Haar wavelet discretization ap-proach for analyzing the free vibration of the coupled laminated composite elliptical-cylindrical-elliptical shells(ECESs)with elastic boundary conditions is *** elliptical double curved shells are cou-pled on both end of cylindrical *** on the first-order shear deformation theory the equations of motion for ECES are derived by means of Hamilton’s *** separation of variables is first per-formed;*** components and rotations of any point of the ECES are expanded to the Haar wavelet series in the meridian direction and Fourier series in circumferential *** constants appearing from the integrating process are determined by boundary conditions,and thus the partial dif-ferential equations are transformed into algebraic *** solving the characteristic equation,the natural frequencies and mode shapes of coupled laminated composite ECES are *** present re-sults have been compared with those of the published *** comparison results show that this method has high accuracy,high reliability and also a higher convergence rate in attaining the frequencies of the coupled laminated composite ***,the effects of the main parameters such as material properties,geometrical parameters,and various boundary conditions,on the vibrational behavior of the coupled ECESs,are ***,new free vibration analysis results of the coupled laminated com-posited ECES,which can be used as benchmark data for researchers in this field,are reported through the parameter study.
