Zircons are abundant in the beach *** this study,surface microtexture,mineralogy,bulk sediment geochemistry,trace element composition and U−Pb isotopic geochronology of detrital zircons collected from the Riachuelos and Palma sola beach areas,southwestern Gulf of mexico were performed to infer the sediment provenance and *** zircon microtexture was categorized as mechanically-and/or chemically-induced *** weathering index values for the Riachuelos(~72−77)and Palma sola(~71−74)beach sediments indicated moderate weathering of both of the two source *** major and trace element data of bulk sediments suggested passive margin settings for the two *** trace elemental ratios and chondrite-normalized rare earth element(REE)patterns of bulk sediments revealed that the sediments were likely sourced by felsic and intermediate igneous *** the zircon Th/U ratios(mostly more than 0.2)and zircon REE patterns(with negative Eu and positive Ce anomalies)suggested a magmatic origin for both of the beach sediments from these two *** distinct zircon age peaks respectively belonging to the Paleozoic and the Cenozoic were identified both in the Riachuelos and Palma sola beach *** geochronology comparison research between the Riachuelos−Palma sola beach sediments and potential source areas in sW Gulf of mexico revealed that the source terrane supplied the Paleozoic zircons of this study was identified as the mesa Central Province(mCP),and the Cenozoic zircons were transported from the nearby Eastern Alkaline Province(EAP).moreover,although the Precambrian zircons were very few in the studied sediments,their geochronology and geochemistry results still could infer that they were contributed by the source terranes of Grenvillian igneous suites in the Oaxaca and the Chiapas massif Complexes.

We describe a new species of megophryid frog from Phu Yen Province in southern Vietnam. Leptolalax macrops sp. nov. is distinguished from its congeners by a combination of the following morphological attributes：（1） body size medium （sVL 28.0-29.3 mm in three adult males, 30.3 mm in single adult female）; （2） supra-axillary glands present, creamy white; ventrolateral glands indistinct; （3） tympanum externally distinct; （4） dorsal skin roughly granular with larger tubercles, dermal ridges on dorsum absent; （5） rudimentary webbing present between fingers I-II and I1-111; rudimentary webbing between all toes; fingers and toes without dermal fringes; （6） in life ventral surface greyish-violet with white speckling; （7） supratympanic fold distinct, dark brown in life; （8） iris bicolored, typically golden in upper half, fading to golden green in lower half; （9） tibia short （TbL/sVL 0.44-0.45 in males）; and （10） eyes large and protuberant （ED/sVL 0.15-0.16 in males） From all congeners for which comparable sequences are available, the new species differs markedly in the 16s rRNA mitochondrial gene sequence （P-distance〉5.7%）. The new species is currently known only from montane evergreen tropical forests of song Hinh District, Phu Yen Province, and m＇Drak District of Dak Lak Province at elevations of 470-630 m a.s.l.. We suggest the new species should be considered as Data Deficient following the IUCN＇s Red List categories. We also report a previously unknownLeptolalax mtDNA lineage from an evergreen tropica forest in the Hoa Thinh District of Phu Yen Province which may also represent an undescribed species.

A limestone mine in Ohio has had instability problems that have led to massive roof falls extending to the surface. This study focuses on the role that weak, moisture-sensitive floor has in the instability *** NIOsH research related to this subject did not include analysis for weak floor or weak bands and recommended that when such issues arise they should be investigated further using a more advanced analysis. Therefore, to further investigate the observed instability occurring on a large scale at the Ohio mine, FLAC3 D numerical models were employed to demonstrate the effect that a weak floor has on roof and pillar stability. This case study will provide important information to limestone mine operators regarding the impact of weak floor causing the potential for roof collapse, pillar failure, and subsequent subsidence of the ground surface.

Over the past half century,wildlife research has relied on technological advances to gain additional insight into the secretive lives of *** revolution started in the 1960s with the development of radio telemetry and continues today with the use of Global Positioning system(GPs)-based research *** the present paper we review the history of radio telemetry from its origins with grizzly bears in Yellowstone to its early applications in tiger research and conservation in *** address the different types of data that are available using radio telemetry as opposed to using other research techniques,such as behavioral observations,camera trapping,DNA analysis and scat *** the late 1990s,the rapid development of GPs collar technology revolutionized wildlife *** new technology has enabled researchers to dramatically improve their ability to gather data on animal movements and *** the ecological and conservation benefits of radio telemetry,there have been few telemetry studies of tigers in the wild,and most have been on the Bengal or Amur *** close with an assessment of the current tiger conservation efforts using GPs technology and discuss how this new information can help to preserve tigers for future generations.

Hereditary tyrosinemia type 1(HT-1) is a metabolic disorder caused by a defect in tyrosine degradation. Without treatment, symptoms of hepatomegaly, renal tubular dysfunction, growth failure, neurologic crises resembling porphyrias, rickets and possible hepatocellular carcinoma can develop. The use of 2-(2-nitro-4-trifluoromethylbenzoyl)-1,3-cyclohexanedione and early diagnosis through newborn screening initiatives have resulted in a sharp decline in morbidity and mortality associated with this disease. We present a case report of a 7-year-old patient with HT-1 who was born prior to the addition of tyrosinemia to the newborn screening in her birth area. At her time of diagnosis, the patient had developed many of the symptoms associated with her disease, including chronic kidney disease, rickets, and myopathy that left her non-ambulatory. During her initial evaluation, she was also noted to have hepatocellular carcinoma. With cadaveric liver transplantation and nutritional support, her symptoms all either resolved or stabilized. Her case il ustrates the severity of the disease if left untreated, the need for vigilance in populations who do not routinely receive newborn screens, and the markedly improved outcomes in patients following transplant.

Poaching as well as loss of habitat and prey are identified as causes of tiger population *** some studies have examined habitat requirements and prey availability,few studies have quantified cause-specific mortality of *** used cumulative incidence functions(CIFs)to quantify cause-specific mortality rates of tigers,expanding and refining earlier studies to assess the potential impact of a newly emerging *** quantify changes in tiger mortality over time,we re-examined data first collected by Goodrich et al.(2008;study period 1:1992–2004)as well as new telemetry data collected since January 2005(study period 2:2005–2012)using a total of 57 tigers(27 males and 30 females)monitored for an average of 747 days(range 26–4718 days).Across the entire study period(1992 to 2012)we found an estimated average annual survival rate of 0.75 for all tigers *** was the primary cause of mortality during both study periods,followed by suspected poaching,distemper and natural/unknown *** 2005,poaching mortality has remained relatively constant and,if combined with suspected poaching,may account for a loss of 17–19%of the population each *** distemper virus(CDV)may be an additive form of mortality to the population,currently accounting for an additional 5%.Despite this relatively new source of mortality,poaching remains the main threat to Amur tiger survival and,therefore,population growth.

Autoimmune hepatitis

Autoimmune hepatitis is a chronic liver disease putatively caused by loss of tolerance to hepatocyte- specific autoantigens. It is characterized by female predilection, elevated aminotransferase levels, autoantibodies, increased y-globulin or IgG levels and biopsy evidence of interface hepatitis. It is currently divided into types 1 and 2, based on expression of autoantibodies. Autoantigenic epitopes have been identified only for the less frequent type 2. Although autoimmune hepatitis occurs in childhood, this review focuses on disease in adults. In the absence of pathognomonic biomarkers, diagnosis requires consideration of clinical, biochemical, serological and histological features, which have been codified into validated diagnostic scoring systems. since many features also occur in other chronic liver diseases, these scoring systems aid evaluation of the differential diagnosis. New practice guidelines have redefined criteria for remission to include complete biochemical and histological normalization on immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppression is most often successful using prednisone or prednisolone and azathioprine; however, the combination of budesonide and azathioprine for non-cirrhotic patients offers distinct advantages. Patients failing standard immunosuppression are candidates for alternative immunosuppressive regimens, yet none of the options has been studied in a randomized, controlled trial. Overlap syndromes with either primary sclerosing cholangitis or primary biliary cirrhosis occur in a minority. Liver transplantation represents a life-saving option for patients presenting with acute liver failure, severely decompensated cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. Transplant recipients are at risk for recurrent autoimmune hepatitis in the allograft, and de novo disease may occur in patients transplanted for other indications. Childhood priapism is a rare entity and there is currently no consensus regarding its contemporary *** use of perioperative anticoagulation and open distal corporaglandular shunt procedure in the management of childhood priapism has not been reported in the *** present a stuttering case of a 13-year-old boy who presented with idiopathic ischaemic priapism lasting 13 h in duration,which recurred despite corporal aspiration and alpha-adrenergic agonist injections,percutaneous distal shunt surgery,and revision of percutaneous distal shunt *** was eventually successfully managed with perioperative subcutaneous enoxaparin,oral aspirin and clopidogrel in conjunction with an Al-Ghorab shunt,which led to sustained detumescence but with spontaneous morning *** paediatric patients with sustained childhood priaprism failing stepwise treatments,an Al-Ghorab shunt with perioperative anticoagulation is a viable option.
