Effectiveness of Short m.ssage Service Support on Adherence to Chem.therapy Treatm.nt am.ng Patients Attending Cancer Treatm.nt Facilities in Kenya

Introduction: Cancer is a chronic debilitating disease that unnerves patients, com.unities, and nations. At som. point in cancer patient’s disease experience, chem.therapy is used, and the patient is expected to adhere to treatm.nt to im.rove survival and quality of life. m.thods: This m.ltisite Cluster Random.zed Trial (CRT) evaluated the effectiveness of m.bile phone Short m.ssage Service (Sm.) support on the adherence to treatm.nt schedules am.ng adult cancer patients in Kenya. Data was collected using questionnaires. Ethical approvals were obtained from.relevant Ethical Review Boards (ERBs). Results: The m.an adherence was 83%. There was a significant difference between treatm.nt arm. in relation to the adherence. The intervention arm.had a higher m.an adherence difference, m.= 3.913, 95% CI 2.632-5.193, t (402) = 6.006, p ≤ 0.001), with Cohen’s d = 0.60. Although not significant, (χ2dd = 0.151, df = 1, p = 2.064), m.re wom.n were perfect adheres than m.les. Perfect adherers were satisfied with Sm. support (χ2dd = 7.620, df = 1, p = 0.06), were in the intervention arm.(χ2dd = 22.942, df = 1, p ≤ 0.001), and had trust in the care provider (χ2dd = 10.591 p ≤ 0.001). Sm. support was not significant in the m.ltivariate analysis but had an estim.ted effect size of 0.958 (z = 1.424, p = 0.154, CI = 0.242-3.781), indicating that m.an adherence was slightly better in the presence of the intervention. Conclusions: Sm.-support intervention has dem.nstrated superiority in influencing adherence. Further, health system.related factors have a significant influence on the adherence to chem.therapy treatm.nt. Interventions to re-design health system. that are responsive to unm.t care needs of cancer patients m.st be explored. .

The diurnal activity patterns, trypanosom. infection rates and m.vem.nt of Glossinafuscipesfuscipes （Diptera： Glossinidae） were investigated in Buvum. Island, Lake Victoria, Uganda. Hourly trapping of tsetse flies was undertaken to determ.ne their activity rhythm.while a capture-m.rk-release-recapture m.thod was conducted to assess the m.vem.nt and dispersal of tsetse flies between lakeshore, hinterland and further inland sites along a transected area. Dissection of tsetse flies was also undertaken to determ.ne the trypanosom. infection rates in salivary glands, proboscis and m.d-gut. Results indicated a bim.dal diurnal activity profile for G. f fuscipes on the Island, both on the lakeshore and in the hinterland. m.vem.nt and dispersal of G. f fuscipes tsetse flies occurred between lakeshore, hinterland and further inland sites with a greater tendency of flies to m.ve to the lakeshore. Trypanosom. infection rates of 4.32% for Trypasom. vivax and 1.15% for 7. congolense were found in G. f. fuscipes.

We know that term.tes are m.sters of constructing ＇buildings＇ that m.et all nutrition, energy, waste disposal needs, shelter, and food sources for m.ny other anim.ls and insects. We need to em.late the sym.iotic abilities of term.tes to survive over tim., for we all live on this sym.iotic planet, and sym.iosis is natural and com.on.

Host-environm.nt m.sm.tches associated with subalpine fir decline in Colorado

Subalpine fir decline （SFD） has killed m.re trees in Colorado＇s high elevation forests than any other insect or disease problem. The widespread nature of this disorder suggests that the cause involves clim.tic factors. We exam.ned the influence of varying com.inations of average annual tem.erature and precipitation on the incidence and distribution of SFD. Clim.tic transition m.trices generated in this study indicate that m.st healthy trees are found in clim.tic zones with m.derate to low tem.eratures and high precipitation; whereas, SFD occurs m.stly in zones of m.derate tem.eratures and m.derate precipitation. The contrasting distributions define an environm.ntal m.sm.tch. Forests m.tched with favorable clim.tic conditions thrive; those that are m.sm.tched can becom. vulnerable to decline disease.

Exercise-dependent regulation of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor （GDNF） expression in skeletal m.scle and its im.ortance for the neurom.scular system

The focus of this review is to highlight the im.ortance of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor （GDNF） for the m.tor nervous system. GDNF is the m.st potent survival factor for m.tor neurons, where it enhances m.intenance and survival of both developing and m.ture m.tor neurons in vivo and in vitro. GDNF aids in neurom.scular junction form.tion, m.intenance, and plasticity, where skeletal m.scle-derived GDNF m.y be responsible for this phenom.non. Increased levels of physical activity can increase GDNF protein levels in skeletal m.scle, where alterations in acetylcholine and acetylcholine receptor activation m.y be involved in regulation of these changes observed. With inactivity and disuse, GDNF expression shows different patterns of regulation in the central and peripheral nervous system.. Due to its potent effects for m.tor neurons, GDNF is being extensively studied in neurom.scular diseases.

Genom.-Wide Association Study and Genom.c Selection for Plant Growth Habit in Peanuts Using the USDA Public Data

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) production is valued at $1.28 billion annually in the USA. Plant growth habit can be used to determ.ne plant population density and cultivation practices a given farm.r uses. Erect plants are generally m.re com.act and can be m.re densely planted unlike plants with m.re prostrate growth. The objectives of this study were to analyze publicly available datasets to identify single-nucleotide polym.rphism.(SNP) m.rkers associated with plant growth habit in peanuts and to conduct genom.c selection. A genom.-wide association study (GWAS) was used to identify SNPs for growth habit type am.ng 775 USDA peanut accessions. A total of 13,306 SNPs were used to conduct GWAS using five statistical m.dels. The m.dels used were single-m.rker regression, generalized linear m.del (PCA), generalized linear m.del (Q), m.xed linear m.del (PCA), and m.xed linear m.del (Q) and a total of 181, 1, 108, 1, and 10 SNPs were found associated with growth habit respectively. Based on this dataset, results showed that genom.c selection can achieve up to 61% accuracy, depending on the training population size being used for the prediction. SNP AX-176821681 was found in all m.dels. Gene ontology for this location shows an annotated gene, Araip.0F3Ym. found 2485 bp upstream.of this SNP and encodes for a peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isom.rase. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report identifying m.lecular m.rkers linked to plant growth habit type in peanuts. This finding suggests that a m.lecular m.rker can be developed to identify specific plant growth habits in peanuts, enabling early generation selection by peanut breeders.

The volcanic rocks of the Xiong’er Group are situated in the southern m.rgin of the North China Craton(NCC).Research on the Xiong er Group is im.ortant to understand the tectonic evolution of the NCC and the Colum.ia supercontinent during the *** this study,to constrain the age of the Xiong’er volcanic rocks and identify its tectonic environm.nt,we report zircon LA-ICP-m. data with Hf isotope,whole-rock m.jor and trace elem.nt com.ositions and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopes of the volcanic rocks of the Xiong’er *** Xiong’er volcanic rocks m.inly consist of basaltic andesite,*** and rhyolite,with m.nor *** new sets of data com.ined with those from.previous studies indicate that Xiong’er volcanism.should have lasted from.1827 m. to 1746 m. as the m.jor phase of the *** volcanics have extrem.ly low *** and Ni contents,are enriched in LREEs and LILEs but depleted in HFSEs(Nb,Ta,and Ti),sim.lar to arc-related volcanic *** are characterized by negative zirconεHft values of-17.4 to 8.8,whole-rock initial 87Sr/86Sr values of 0.7023 to 0.7177 andεNd(t)values of-10.9 to *** Pb isotopes(206Pb/204Pb=14.366-16.431,207Pb/204Pb=15.106-15.371,208Pb/204Pb=32.455-37.422).The available elem.ntal and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotope data suggest that the Xiong’er volcanic rocks were sourced from.a m.ntle contam.nated by continental *** volcanic rocks of the Xiong’er Group m.ght have been generated by high-degree partial m.lting of a lithospheric m.ntle that was originally m.dified by oceanic subduction in the ***,we suggest that the subduction-m.dified lithospheric m.ntle occurred in an extensional setting during the breakup of the Colum.ia supercontinent in the Late Paleoproterozoic,rather than in an arc setting.

Geochem.cal and m.neralogical studies were perform.d in the La Pesca(LP)and Tesoro Altam.ra(TA)beach sedim.nts,located in the Tam.ulipas state,northern Gulf of *** m.in aim.of this study is to infer the weathering history and provenance and to discrim.nate the tectonic environm.nt of the beach *** sedim.nts are com.osed of quartz with sm.ll am.unts of accessory m.nerals such as plagioclase,calcite,orthoclase,m.crocline,and *** beach sedim.nts are classified as fine-grained and very well sorted,however LP has coarse skewed and leptokurtic sedim.nts,whereas TA has fine-skewed and very leptokurtic *** chem.cal index of weathering(CIW’)indicates intense weathering in the source *** quartz grain m.crotextures in the LP and TA are classified into m.chanical,chem.cal,and m.chanical/chem.cal *** features such as fractures,pits,percussion m.rks,abrasion fatigue,and V-shaped m.rks favor high-energy littoral,fluvial,subaqueous-m.rine,and aeolian *** chem.cal features indicate solution pits and crystalline overgrowth,which suggests a silica saturated m.rine *** m.chanical/chem.cal features display adhering particles and elongated depressions suggest form.tion in a sub-aqueous nearshore m.rine *** and trace elem.nts-based provenance discrim.nation diagram. indicate a felsic source derived from.the m.sa Central(m.),Sierra m.dre Oriental(Sm.r)and Oaxaquia *** m.jor and trace elem.nt concentrations im.ly a passive m.rgin setting for the northern Gulf of m.xico,which is consistent with the general geology.
