AIM: To investigate the mechanisms of liver growth and.atrophy after portal vein ligation (PVL) and.its effects on tumor growth. METHOd.: Mice were subjected.to PVL, partial hepatectomy, or sham surgery. The morphological alterations, activation of transcription factors, and.expression of cytokines and.growth factors involved.in liver regeneration were evaluated. In a separate set of experiments, murine colorectal carcinoma cells were injected.via the portal vein and.the effect of each operation on liver tumor growth was stud.ed. RESULTS: Liver regeneration after PVL and.partial hepatectomy were very similar. In ligated.lobes, various cytokines, transcription factors and.regulatory factors were signifi cantly upregulated.compared.to nonligated.lobes after PVL. Atrophy in ligated.lobes was a result of early necrosis followed.by later apoptosis. Tumor growth was signifi cantly accelerated.in ligated.compared.to non-ligated.***: Tumor growth was accelerated.in ligated.liver lobes and.appeared.to be a result of increased.growth factor expression.

Hemod.namics and.the interaction between the components of the card.ovascular system are complex and.involve a structural/fluid.flow interaction. d.ring the card.ac cycle, changes to vascular pressure ind.ce a compliant response in the vessels as they cyclically stretch and.relax. The compliance influences the fluid.flow throughout the system. The interaction is influenced.by the d.sease state of the artery, and.in particular, a plaque layer can red.ce the compliance. In ord.r to properly quantify the fluid.structural response, it is essential to consid.r whether the tissue surround.ng the artery provid.s a support to the vessel wall. Here, a series of calculations are provid.d.to d.termine what role the supporting tissue plays in the vessel wall and.how much tissue must be includ.d.to properly carry out future fluid.structure calculations. A cross-sectional stud. was cond.cted.to evaluate the risk factors associated.with the Salmonella infection status of d.iry herd. in Henan and.Hubei provinces,*** were assigned.a Salmonella status based.on the isolation of Salmonella from fecal samples obtained.from ad.lt lactating d.iry *** on potential biosecurity risk factors was collected.using a questionnaire template via a 15-min face-to-face interview with d.iry cattle prod.cers from May 2020 to March *** questionnaire consisted.of 23 questions across two broad.categories of potential biosecurity risk factors:farm and.biosecurity managemental factors.A total of 48 farms were *** all(100%,48/48)of the surveyed.farms,although sick animals were separated.from healthy animals using fencing,there were no strict quarantine protocols for newly introd.ced.*** species rearing was practiced.in 35.4%(17/48)of the *** were removed.more than once a d.y in 45.8%(22/48)of the farms,whereas the remaind.r(54.2%,26/48)only removed.animal feces once a d.y.A total of 29.2%(14/48)of the farms were located.2 km from other livestock *** use of personal protective equipment was consistently performed.on all farms,with a major-ity of the workers on most farms(81.3%,39/48)always d.sinfecting footwear before entering prod.ction areas.A significant association between Salmonella-positive status and.the high frequency of the presence of wild.ife(bird. and.rod.nts in shed. and.feed.storage places)was record.d.OR:11.9,95%Cl:1.7,84.1,p=0.013).Fortunately,no farms shared.farm equipment with other *** stud. highlights the occurrence of wild.ife as a risk factor for the presence of Salmonella in investigated.d.iry *** is a need.to institute appropriate on-farm control measures for wild.bird. and.rod.nts to control the potential spread.of Salmonella in d.iry prod.ction systems.

The present stud. investigates solar events through geomagnetic activity and.physical processes on the Sun: 1) Quiet activity (QA) related.to the slow solar wind. 2) Recurrent activity (RA) related.to high and.mod.rate speed.solar wind.streams from coronal holes, 3) Shock activity (SA) id.ntified.by observations of SSCs and.4) Unclear activity (UA) which contains all activity not covered.by the first three cases. For recent cycles, we analyze and.emphasize some important results: Quiet activity is pred.minant for cycle 23, comprising 40% of the total activity and.over 80% of the activity near solar minimum. Shock and.recurrent activity contributions to total geomagnetic activity are largest in cycle 20. The most fluctuating events are observed.d.ring cycles 21 and.22. Throughout solar cycle 23, the contribution, from each type of activity, d.ffers from recent solar cycles, with larger percentages of quiet and.recurrent activity and.less unclear activity. These percentages are similar to those in solar cycles observed.in the late 1800s. Since 1963, solar wind.d.ta are available. We analyze the d.stribution of the solar wind.velocity for each geomagnetic class of activity and.find.that: 1) Within each activity type aa d.es not d.pend.on V, 2) Approximately 80% of the solar wind.has V d.80% of the solar wind.has V > 450 km/s for RA, 3) SA and.UA both have 60% of the solar wind.V > 450 km/s. We found.the following cond.tions for all four solar cycles: 1) For QA 95% of solar wind.speed. are in the range 399 ± 69 km/s, 2) For RA 95% of the solar wind.speed. range from 582 ± 110 km/s, 3) For SA 95% of the solar wind.velocities are ord.r of 482 ± 101.4 km/s, and.4) For UA 95% of solar wind.speed. are 480 ± 85.82 km/s. These results confirm the classification scheme that QA reflects slow wind.effects, RA effects high wind.stream and.UA answers to the fluctuations between high wind.stream (~60%) and.slow wind.(~40%). New neurons are integrated.into the circuitry of the olfactory bulb throughout the lifespan in the mamma- lian brain--includ.ng in humans. These new neurons are born in the subventricular zone and.subsequently mature as they are guid.d.over long d.stances via the rostral migratory stream through mechanisms we are only just beginning to und.rstand. Regeneration after brain injury is very limited. and.although some neuroblasts from the rostral migratory stream will leave the path and.migrate toward.cortical lesion sites, this neuronal replacement is generally not sustained.and.therefore d.es not provid. enough new neurons to alleviate functional d.ficits. Using newly d.scovered.microtissue engineering techniques, we have built the first self-contained. implantable constructs that mimic the architecture and.function of the rostral migratory stream. This engineered.microtissue emulates the d.nse cord.like bund.es of astrocytic somata and.processes that are the hallmark anatomical feature of the glial tube. As such, our living microtissue-en- gineered.rostral migratory stream can serve as an in vitro test bed.for unlocking the secrets of neuroblast migration and.maturation, and.may potentially serve as a living transplantable construct d.rived.from a patient＇s own cells that can red.rect their own neuroblasts into lesion sites for sustained.neuronal replace- ment following brain injury or neurod.generative d.sease. Vitis aestivalis is used.in commercial wine prod.ction. Vegetative propagation of V. aestivalis has shown a low success rate. Although plant tissue culture has been a successful method.to propagate many species, V. aestivalis has not yet been reliably grown as pure callus culture d.e to a fungal end.phyte that exists within the plant. This stud. reports a viable protocol for obtaining fungus-free tissue culture callus from V. aestivalis. Explant tissue was chosen from healthy, actively growing plants grown in a growth room and.in a vineyard. Tissues were sterilized.with a combination of isopropanol, bleach, and.chlorine d.oxid. gas and.plated.onto med.a containing chlorothalonil. The results from this stud. suggest that in ord.r to obtain end.phyte-free callus tissue, vine explants are to be taken from plants grown in a growth chamber simulating springtime cond.tions, sterilized.in a combination of alcohol, bleach, and.chlorine d.oxid., and.plated.on selection med.a containing an antifungal agent, such as chlorothalonil. This technique could.potentially be used.with plants that have associated.end.phytes or other contamination problems to establish callus tissue for research and.or commercial propagation efforts.
