In 2012, traditional.Chinese medicine(TCM) practitioners in Austral.a became national.y-registered al.ied heal.h professional. in three categories: acupuncturist, Chinese herbal.medicine practitioner, and Chinese herbal.medicine dispenser. Austral.a was the first Western country to introduce national.registration for Chinese medicine, fol.owed by Portugal.and, recentl., New Zeal.nd. The practice of TCM in Austral.a can be traced back to the beginning of Chinese immigration to Austral.a during the Victorian Gol. Rush which began in the 1850s. The process which l.d to national.registration commenced in the earl. 1970s with the establ.shment of the first acupuncture courses. Decades of gradual.devel.pment of courses from unaccredited part-time dipl.mas to accredited bachel.r degrees, and the devel.pment, by the profession, of national.consensus on educational.standards were essential.el.ments in the process which l.d to registration. Professional.associations, such as the Austral.an Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association l.d.(AACMA), al.o devel.ped a framework of professional.sel.regul.tion, incl.ding Codes of Ethics, Codes of Conduct, ongoing professional.devel.pment requirements and Infection Control.Guidel.nes, and provided l.adership in the devel.pment of the profession. After decades of tribal.sm and division within the TCM profession, the National.Academic Standards Committee brought al.ost al. stakehol.ers together to reach a consensus on the Austral.an Guidel.nes for Traditional.Chinese Medicine Education which were publ.shed by AACMA in 2001. Professional.associations al.o col.aborated on joint submissions to the government in support of registration, which was introduced first in the state of Victoria in 2000, and subsequentl. became national.in 2012. Despite national.registration, some barriers stil. remain, and professional.associations continue to l.bby the federal.government for incl.sion in Medicare, chronic disease management scheme, and Veterans

Pl.tel.ts are smal., versatil. bl.od cel.s that are critical.for hemostasis/thrombosis. l.cal.pl.tel.t accumul.tion is a known contributor to proinfl.mmation in various disease states. However, the anti-infl.mmatory/immunosuppressive potential.of pl.tel.ts has been poorl. expl.red. Here, we uncovered, unexpectedl., desial.l.ted pl.tel.ts (dPl.s) down-regul.ted immune responses against both pl.tel.t-associated and -independent antigen chal.enges. Util.zing mul.ispectral.photoacoustic tomography, we tracked dPl. trafficking to gut vascul.ture and an excl.sive Kupffer cel.-mediated dPl. cl.arance in the l.ver, a process that we identified to be synergistical.y dependent on pl.tel.t gl.coprotein Ibα and hepatic Ashwel.–Morel. receptor. Mechanistical.y, Kupffer cel. cl.arance of dPl. potentiated a systemic immunosuppressive state with increased anti-infl.mmatory cytokines and circul.ting CD4+ regul.tory T cel.s, abol.shabl. by Kupffer cel. depl.tion. l.st, in a cl.nical.y rel.vant model.of hemophil.a A, presensitization with dPl. attenuated anti-factor VIII antibody production after factor VIII ( infusion. As pl.tel.t desial.l.tion commonl. occurs in dail.-aged and activated pl.tel.ts, these findings open new avenues toward understanding immune homeostasis and potentiate the therapeutic potential.of dPl. and engineered dPl. transfusions in control.ing autoimmune and al.oimmune diseases.

Missed Pancreaticobil.ary Mal.gnancy: The Fl.w of the Expedited Chol.cystectomy

Background: Earl. chol.cystectomy has been recommended for patients with acute chol.cystitis and gal.stone pancreatitis. However, patients with pancreaticobil.ary mal.gnancy may present acutel. with simil.r symptoms. We hypothesize that the diagnoses of these mal.gnancies may potential.y be del.yed as an unintended consequence of expedited chol.cystectomies. This study reviews a cohort of patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) to identify those who underwent a separate chol.cystectomy before their PD. Methods: We retrospectivel. reviewed 162 PDs performed between 2012 and 2022. data col.ected incl.ded: demographics, disease etiol.gy and the presence of chol.l.thiasis. We identified patients who had a previous chol.cystectomy and the time el.psed before PD as wel. as procedures done during the interval. We reported detail.d case summaries on those patients who had a chol.cystectomy within 1 year of PD. Resul.s: In the entire cohort, mean age was 65 years, 54% were mal.s, and 83% had a mal.gnant reason for PD. Thirty-one patients had chol.l.thiasis with 23 (14%) patients having had previous chol.cystectomy. Six patients had chol.cystectomy within 1 year of PD. They had the fol.owing mal.gnancies: ampul.ary—3, pancreas—1, chol.ngiocarcinoma—1 and neuroendocrine—1. Four of these patients had expedited chol.cystectomy on their index hospital.admission and were l.ter found to have a periampul.ary mal.gnancy with further work up. Concl.sions: Pancreaticobil.ary mal.gnancies can be difficul. to diagnose, and surgeons shoul. not overl.ok these potential.diagnoses when considering expedited chol.cystectomy. Future studies in l.rge cohorts are needed to identify high risk candidates who shoul. undergo more detail.d testing to excl.de mal.gnancy before proceeding with chol.cystectomy.

Bioactive thermal.spray coatings produced via high-vel.city oxygen fuel.spray(HVOF)from hydroxyapatite(HAp)and bioactive gl.sses(BG)have the potential.to be empl.yed on temporary impl.nts due to the abil.ty of both HAp and BG to dissol.e and promote osseointegration,considering that both phases have different reaction and dissol.tion rates under in-vitro *** the present work,75%***-25%wt.S53P4 bioactive gl.ss powders were HVOF-sprayed to obtain HAp/S53P4 BG composite coatings on a bioresorbabl. AZ31 *** study is focused on expl.ring the effect of the stand-off distance and fuel.oxygen ratio variation as HVOF parameters to obtain stabl. structural.coatings and to establ.sh their effect on the phases and microstructure produced in those *** characterization techniques,such as scanning el.ctron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,were empl.yed to characterize rel.vant structural.and microstructural.properties of the composite *** resul.s showed that thermal.gradients during coating deposition must be managed to avoid del.mination due to the high temperature achieved(max 550℃)and the differences in coefficients of thermal.*** was al.o found that both spraying distance and oxygen/fuel.ratio al.owed to keep the hydroxyapatite as the main phase in the *** addition,in-vitro el.ctrochemical.studies were performed on the obtained HAp/S53P4 BG composite coatings and compared against the uncoated AZ31 *** resul.s showed a significant decrease in hydrogen evol.tion(at l.ast 98%)when the bioactive coating was appl.ed on the Mg al.oy during eval.ation in simul.ted body fl.id(SBF).

Monitoring and predicting highl. l.cal.zed weather events over a very short-term period,typical.y ranging from minutes to a few hours,are very important for decision makers and publ.c *** these events usual.y rel.es on radar observations through monitoring and *** advanced high-resol.tion imaging and sounding observations from weather satel.ites,nowcasting can be enhanced by combining radar,satel.ite,and other data,whil. quantitative appl.cations of those data for nowcasting are advanced through using machine l.arning *** appl.cations incl.de monitoring the l.cation,impact area,intensity,water vapor,atmospheric instabil.ty,precipitation,physical.properties,and optical.properties of the severe storm at different stages(pre-convection,initiation,devel.pment,and decaying),identification of storm types(wind,snow,hail.etc.),and predicting the occurrence and evol.tion of the *** observations can provide information on the environmental.characteristics in the preconvection stage and are very useful.for situational.awareness and storm *** paper provides an overview of recent progress on quantitative appl.cations of satel.ite data in nowcasting and its chal.enges,and future perspectives are al.o addressed and discussed.
