AIM:To provide a comprehensive and more representative national data on the disease,especially on treatment options and outcomes,and to determine access of retinoblastoma patients from Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao to eye care,and determine if access is associated with delay in consultation,staging and ***:Cohort study of retinoblastoma patients seen in eleven institutions located in the three major areas of the Philippines namely Luzon,Vizayas and Mindanao from ***:Totally 636 patients,involving 821 eyes,were ***(57%)were from Luzon and were seen in institutions in Luzon(72%).Annually,58±10 new cases were seen with 71%having unilateral *** delay of consultation remained long at 9(3,17)mo,longest in patients with unilateral disease(Phose from the Visayas(Phe International Retinoblastoma Staging System,only 35%of patients had Stage 1 while 47%already had extraocular *** was the most common treatment received by 484 patients while intravenous chemotherapy was received by *** were 250(39%)patients alive,195(31%)dead,85(13%)abandoned,17(3%)refused and 89(14%)with no ***:This study presents the largest cohort of retinoblastoma patients in the Philippines in terms of patients’and participating institutions’number and geographical location and type of institution(private and public).It also presents more comprehensive data on the treatments used and outcomes(survival,globe salvage,and vision retention rates).Delay in consultation was still long among patients leading to advanced disease stage and lower survival *** increasing capacity to diagnose and manage retinoblastoma in the country,the delay of consultation remains long primarily due to accessibility issues to eye care institutions especially in the Visayas and financial *** delay was still significant that overall survival rate remain low.

A 2D elastodynamic boundary element method (BEM) is used to solve multiple scattering of elastic waves. The method is based on the integral representation of an elastic wave-field by assuming a fictitious source distribution on the scattering objects or inclusions, i.e. a mathematical description of huygens’ principle, and the fictitious source distribution can be found by matching appropriate boundary conditions at the boundary of the inclusions. Numerical studies show that in the presence of cracks, spatial and scale-length distributions are important and different spatial arrangements of the same scatters lead to profound differences in scattering characteristics, in particular the frequency contents of the transmitted wave-fields. The frequency characteristics, such as the frequency of peak attenuation , can be related to spatial size parameters of the model.

A revised empirical model has been developed for predicting liquefaction-induced lateral spreading displacement （LD） as a function of both response spectral acceleration derived from strong-motion attenuation models and geotechnical parameters from Youd＇s LD data set （Youd website）. This revised model is different from the model of Zhang and Zhao, which overcame some drawbacks of earlier models for predicting lateral spreading and was primarily used in Japan and the western U.S. The revised model can potentially be applied anywhere if ground shaking （in terms of 5% damped acceleration or displacement response spectra） can be estimated using local strong-motion attenuation relationships. The revised model is examined using data from Japan and the western U.S. and applied to Turkey and New Zealand, where the ground shaking is estimated using appropriate strong-motion attenuation relationships for each region. The accuracy of the revised model is evaluated by comparing its predicted lateral displacements with those measured in actual earthquakes. The results show that the revised model can account for the effects of local seismicity on lateral spreading displacements and is comparable with existing prediction models.

The development of an active, durable, and metal-free carbocatalyst that is able to replace metal-based catalysts is of increasing scientific and technological importance. The use of such a catalyst would avoid problems caused by metal- containing catalysts, for example, environmental pollution by heavy metals and depletion of rare metal resources. herein, an active and durable graphene carbocatalyst is presented for the carbocatalytic conversion of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol at ambient temperature. The carbocatalyst was prepared via a mild, water-based reaction between L-ascorbic acid （AA） and graphene oxide （GO） and did not involve any other reactants. During the structure and catalytic property optimization, a series of carbocatalysts were fabricated at various reaction temperatures and AA/GO ratios. Using several characterization techniques, detailed structural features of these carbocatalysts were identified. Possible active species and sites on the carbocatalysts were also identified such as certain oxygen-containing groups, the ~x-conjugated system, and graphene sheet edges. In addition, the synergistic effect between these active species and sites on the resulting catalytic activity is highlighted. Furthermore, we clarified the origin of the high stability and durability of the optimized carbocatalyst. The work presented here aids the design of high-performance carbocatalysts for hydrogenation reactions, and increases understanding of the structural and mechanistic aspects at the molecular level that lead to high catalyst activity and durability.
