Up to 15%of male in fertility has an immuno logical origi n,either due to repetitive infections or to autoimmune resp on ses mainly affecting the epididymis,prostate,and *** observations and epidemiological data clearly contradict the idea that the testis confers immune protection to the whole male genital *** a consequenee,the epididymis,in which posttesticular spermatozoa mature and are stored,has raised some in terest in recent years when it comes to its immune mecha *** deed,sperm cells are produced at puberty,long after the establishment of self-toleranee,and they possess unique surface proteins that cannot be recognized as *** are potential targets of the immune system,with the risk of inducing autoantibodies and consequently male *** immunity is based on a finely tuned equilibrium between efficient immune responses to pathogens and strong tolerance to sperm *** processes rely on incompletely described molecules and cell *** review compiles recent studies focusing on the immune cell types populating the epididymis,and proposes hypothetical models of the organization of epididymal immunity with a special emphasis on the immune response,while also discussing important aspects of the epididymal immune regulation such as tolerance and tumour control.

Cholesterol is a key molecule in the mammalian physiology of especial particular importance for the reproductive system as it is the common precursor for steroid hormone synthesis. Cholesterol is also a recognized modulator of sperm functions, not only at the level of gametogenesis. Cholesterol homeostasis regulation is crucial for posttesticular sperm maturation, and imbalanced cholesterol levels may particularly affect these posttesticular events. Metabolic lipid disorders （dyslipidemia） affect male fertility but are most of the time studied from the angle of endocrine/testicular consequences. This review will focus on the deleterious effects of a particular dyslipidemia, Le., hypercholesterolemia, on posttesticular maturation of mammalian spermatozoa.

The Fourth Epididymis （Epid Ⅳ） Workshop was held between December 4th and 7th 2006 in Chatel-Guyon, France. This was the first European venue for these workshops following Epid Ⅲ held in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA in 2002, Epid Ⅱ held in Newcastle, Australia in 1998 and a one-day meeting （later named Epid Ⅰ） in Hong Kong, China in 1992. The 2006 meeting was organised by Drs Joeol r. drevet （Aubi6re, France） and Trevor G. Cooper （Muenster, Germany） and was a satellite meeting of the Fourth European Congress of Andrology （ECA2006） which followed in Toulouse （France） from December 8th to 10th.

The mammalian epididymis not only plays a fun dame ntal role in the maturati on of spermatozoa,but also provides protecti on agai nst various *** foremost among these is the threat posed by oxidative stress,which arises from an imbalance in reactive oxygen species and can elicit damage to cellular lipids,proteins,and nucleic *** mice,the risk of oxidative damage to spermatozoa is mitigated through the expression and secretion of glutathione peroxidase 5(GPX5)as a major luminal scavenger in the proximal caput epididymidal ***,the loss of GPX5^-/-mediated protection leads to impaired DNA integrity in the spermatozoa of aged Gpx57 *** explore the underlying mechanism,we have conducted transcriptomic analysis of caput epididymidal epithelial cells from aged(13 months old)Gpx5^-/-m *** analysis revealed the dysregulation of several thousand epididymal mrNA transcripts,in eluding the downregulation of a subgroup of pirNA pathway gen es,in aged Gpx5^-/-*** agreeme nt with these fin dings,we also observed the loss of pirNAs,which potentially bind to the P-element-induced wimpy testis(PlWI)-like proteins PIWIL1 and *** absence of these pirNAs was correlated with the elevated mrNA levels of their putative gene targets in the caput epididymidis of Gpx5^-/-***,the oxidative stress response genes tend to have more targeting pirNAs,and many of them were among the top increased genes upon the loss of GPX5^-/-.Taken together,our findings suggest the existence of a previously uncharacterized somatic pirNA pathway in the mammalian epididymis and its possible invoIvement in the aging and oxidative stress-mediated responses.

Intraductal endoscopy describes the use of an endoscope to directly visualize the biliary and pancreatic ducts. For many years, technological challenges have made performing these procedures difficult. The "mother-baby" system and other various miniscopes have been developed, but routine use has been hampered due to complex setup, scope fragility and the time consuming, technically demanding nature of the procedure. recently, the SpyGlass peroral cholangiopancreatoscopy system has shown early success at providing diagnostic information and therapeutic options. The clinical utility of intraductal endoscopy is broad. It allows better differentiation between benign and malignant processes by allowing direct visualization and targeted sampling of tissue. Therapeutic interventions, such as electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL), laser lithotripsy, photodynamic therapy, and argon plasma coagulation (APC), may also be performed as part of intraductal endoscopy. Intraductal endoscopy significantly increases the diagnostic and therapeutic yield of standard endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ErCP), and as technology progresses, it is likely that its utilization will only increase. In this review of intraductal endoscopy, we describe in detail the various endoscopic platforms and their diagnostic and clinical applications.

Benign biliary strictures are being increasingly treated with endoscopic techniques. The benign nature of the stricture should be first confirmed in order to ensure appropriate therapy. Surgery has been the traditional treatment, but there is increasing desire for minimally invasive endoscopic therapy. At present, endoscopy has become the first line approach for the therapy of post- liver transplant anastomotic strictures and distal （Bismuth ! and I） post-operative strictures. Strictures related to chronic pancreatitis have proven more difficult to treat, and endoscopic therapy is reserved for patients who are not surgical candidates. The preferred endoscopic approach is aggressive treatment with gradual dilation of the stricture and insertion of multiple plastic stents. The use of uncovered self expandable metal stents should be discouraged due to poor long-term results. Treatment with covered metal stents or bioabsorbable stents warrants further evaluation. This area of therapeutic endoscopy provides an ongoing opportunity for fresh research and innovation.

Dear Editor, The growing understanding concerning the definition, classification, and function of small non-coding rNAs （sncrNAs） has led to the discovery of new sncrNA spe- cies of various sizes. recent studies high- lighted a group of tsrNAs derived from the 5＇ end of trNAs （Peng et al., 2012; Zhang et al., 2014; Chen et al., 2016; Sharma et al., 2016）, which raises the question whether there are similar small rNAs derived from other housekeeping rNAs, such as rrNAs.
