Developm.nt of GPS-Based m.lti-Channel Controllers for Research Plot Pesticide Applicators

Pesticide efficacy tests are typically conducted in experim.ntal plots which involve applying m.ltiple chem.cal treatm.nts at different application rates and tim.ngs. Utilizing a single boom.pesticide applicator requires navigating to individual plots, applying a pesticide assigned to those plots and when all replications are com.leted, cleaning the equipm.nt and reloading the next pesticide treatm.nt into the tank. It usually takes several hours to accom.lish this task, especially when the left hand side of a plot requires a different pesticide treatm.nt than the right hand side. In order to facilitate application of pesticide treatm.nts in experim.ntal plots, two m.p-based controller system. were developed to drive m.lti-channel pesticide applicators. The Clem.on “m.lti-Channel Chem.cal Controllers” consist of solid-state relays controlled by custom.software, solenoid valves, and GPS receivers. The first system.can control up to 24 individual boom. which could independently apply up to 24 different chem.cal treatm.nts in each field plot area. The second system.is the Clem.on “Intelligent Farm.Controller” (iFc), which could be connected to a variety of devices, such as spray and m.tor actuators. For this study, the controller was designed to handle four output pins to control four relays;however, it could easily be expanded to control m.re relays, if needed. On average, these system. reduced application tim.s in test fields from.six hours to 20 m.nutes, com.ared to single-boom.applicators (p = 0.001), thereby reducing the tim. interval between treatm.nt applications and significantly reducing the potential effect of adverse weather.

m.lecular heterogeneity of gelatin-binding proteins from.hum.n sem.nal plasm.

Defining the m.lecular characteristics of sem.nal plasm. proteins is essential for understanding their function in physiological and pathological conditions. Starting from.the predicted im.ortance of hum.n sem.nal plasm. gelatin-binding proteins, com.rising fibronectin （FN） and FN-related m.lecules, for m.le fertility, this study aim. at gaining insight into their im.uno-glycobiochem.cal properties. Hum.n sem.nal plasm. from.subjects with norm.l sem.n param.ters were separated on a gelatin-Sepharose colum. and analyzed by sodium.dodecyl sulfate- polyacrylam.de gel electrophoresis and im.unoblotting using antibodies against distinct FN form.. Heterogeneity of the isolated m.lecular species was exam.ned by protein chip arrays com.ined with surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization tim. of flight m.ss spectrom.try, on norm.l, m.tal and hydrophobic surfaces. Carbohydrate com.osition was investigated using m.nnose-, fucose- and sialic acid-specific plant lectins and galectin-1. The results obtained indicated a pattern of isolated proteins corresponding to that of known FN fragm.nts, as confirm.d by im.unoreactivity. Am.ng them.heparin-binding ability was preferentially associated with low m.lecular m.ss species. As for posttranslational m.difications, phosphorylation and glycosylation of distinct fragm.nts were revealed. Lectin binding to fragm.nts containing the gelatin-binding dom.in, particularly with Ricinus com.unis agglutinin I, was stronger than to fragm.nts containing the cell-binding site of FN. A low level of sialylation and distinctive concanavalin A- and Lens culinaris agglutinin-reactive species were also observed. Galectin-1 did not interact with the isolated preparation. Resolving the m.lecular heterogeneity of norm.l hum.n sem.nal plasm. FN and gaining initial insight into possible sim.larities/differences with known FN m.lecular species m.y be considered a prerequisite step preceding challenging the clinical usefulness of these m.lecular properties.

A stochastic approach for integrating m.rket and technical uncertainties in econom.c evaluations of petroleum.developm.nt

The paper presents a stochastic and econom.c analysis for petroleum.developm.nt under uncertain m.rket and technical environm.nts. m.an-reversion with jum.s for price forecasting is used to consider m.rket uncertainty, while various scenarios for the reservoir properties and cost are em.loyed to consider technical uncertainty. m.nte Carlo sim.lation is carried out to obtain the feasible range of net present values and internal rates of return. The influence of stochastic param.ters is exam.ned through correlation coefficients. The stochastic approach yields m.re reliable evaluation and effectively investigates the characteristics of developm.nt. The integration of uncertainties and contractual term. results in an irregular tendency in the future cash flow and reveals that a larger reserve does not guarantee a greater profit. The reserve and the well rate affect the econom.c values whereas the param.ters for price prediction don＇t. The research confirm. the necessity of qualifying uncertainties for realistic decision-m.king at the initial stage of developm.nt.

Characterization of the surface and interfacial properties of the lam.na splendens

Joint disease affects approxim.tely 52.5 m.l- lion patients in the United States alone, costing 80.8 billion USD in direct healthcare costs. The developm.nt of treatm.nt program. for joint disease and traum. requires accurate assessm.nt of articular cartilage degradation. The articular cartilage is the interfacial tissue between articu- lating surfaces, such as bones, and acts as low-friction interfaces. Dam.ge to the lam.na splendens, which is the articular cartilage＇s topm.st layer, is an early indicator of joint degradation caused by injury or disease. By gaining com.rehensive knowledge on the lam.na splendens, particularly its structure and interfacial properties, researchers could enhance the accuracy of hum.n and anim.l biom.chanical m.dels, as well as develop appro- priate biom.m.tic m.terials for replacing dam.ged articu- lar cartilage, thereby leading to rational treatm.nt program. for joint disease and injury. Previous studies that utilize light, electron, and force m.croscopy techniques have found that the lam.na splendens is com.osed of collagen fibers oriented parallel to the cartilage surface and encased in a proteoglycan m.trix. Such orientation m.xim.zes wear resistance and proteoglycan retention while prom.ting the passage of nutrients and synovial fluid. Although the structure of the lam.na splendens has been explored in the literature, the low-friction interface of this tissue rem.ins only partially characterized. Various functional m.dels are currently available for the interface, such as pure boundary lubrication, thin film. exuded under pressure, and sheets of trapped proteins. Recent studies suggest that each of these lubrication m.dels has certain advantages over one another. Further research is needed to fully m.del the interface of this tissue. In this review, we sum.arize the m.thods for characterizing the lam.na splendens and the results of each m.thod. Chronic inflam.ation is often associated with alcoholrelated m.dical conditions. The key inducer of such inflam.ation, and also the best understood, is gut m.croflora-derived lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Alcohol can significantly increase the translocation of LPS from.the gut. In healthy individuals, the adverse effects of LPS are kept in check by the actions and interactions of m.ltiple organs. The liver plays a central role in detoxifying LPS and producing a balanced cytokine m.lieu. The central nervous system.contributes to anti-inflam.atory regulation through neuroim.unoendocrine actions. Chronic alcohol use im.airs not only gut and liver functions, but also m.lti-organ interactions, leading to persistent system.c inflam.ation and ultim.tely, to organ dam.ge. The study of these interactions m.y provide potential new targets for therapeutic intervention.

A Novel Approach to Design Distribution Preserving Fram.work for Big Data

Background Ciliopathies are a group of diseases associated with abnorm.l structure or function of prim.ry cilia. Ciliopathies include polycystic kidney disease （PKD）, a pathology associated with vascular hypertension. We previously showed that cilia length regulates cilia function, and cilia function is required for nitric oxide （NO） biosynthesis in endothelial cells. Because patients with PKD show abnorm.l sensory cilia function, the aim.of our current study was to search for a targeted therapy focused on prim.ry cilia, which we refer to as ＇cilio- therapy＇. m.thods and Results In the present studies, our in vitro analyses refined fenoldopam.as an equipotent and m.re specific dopa- m.nergic agonist to regulate cilia length and function. Our in vivo studies indicated that fenoldopam.increased cilia length and serum.NO thereby reducing blood pressure in a PKD m.use m.del. Our crossover, m.lticenter, double-blind and placebo-controlled clinical study further indicated that cilia-targeting therapy showed an overall reduction in m.an arterial pressure in PKD patients. Conclusions Overall, our studies provide the first evidence of ciliotherapy as an innovative intervention in patients with abnorm.l prim.ry cilia.
