carbon fixation is the main route of inorganic carbon in the form of cO2 into the *** nature,RuBiscO is the most abundant protein that photosynthetic organisms use to fix cO2 from the atmosphere through the calvin-Benson-Bassham(cBB)***,the cBB cycle is limited by its low catalytic rate and low energy *** this work,we attempt to integrate the reductive tricarboxylic acid and cBB cycles in silico to further improve carbon fixation *** heterologous enzymes,mostly carboxylating enzymes,are inserted into the Esherichia coli core metabolic network to assimilate cO2 into biomass using hydrogen as energy ***,such a strain shows enhanced growth yield with simultaneous running of dual carbon fixation *** key results include the following.(i)We identified two main growth states:carbon-limited and hydrogenlimited;(ii)we identified a hierarchy of carbon fixation usage when hydrogen supply is limited;and(iii)we identified the alternative sub-optimal growth mode while performing genetic *** results and modeling approach can guide bioengineering projects toward optimal production using such a strain as a microbial cell factory.

Treatment Interventions of Type 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Review

Objective: This study looks to review different methods of lifestyle changing interventions, examine and compare them to determine usefulness, efficiency, and outcome in regard to future ventures to help control the rise of this type 2 diabetes. Methods: Three systematic reviews were found and compared based on efficacy and key differences in their approach to the ever-growing problem of type 2 diabetes. Outcomes and intervention styles of the studies were noted and critiqued based on their statistical significance. conclusion: The first study revealed that multiple behavior change techniques (BcTs) correlate with a reduction in weight and HbA1c, especially when they work synergistically alongside one another. The second study spoke of how community intervention had an inclusive quality about it, which allowed for population variability to not affect implementation. It also showed that small incremental changes were best when trying to establish a change long-term across a large population. Finally, the third study revealed that, as the participant got closer to maintaining a good physical activity regiment, their self-efficacy also increased. The attributes of these studies give evidence that interventions that use multiple approaches are most effective when looking to improve physical activity and diet in Type 2 diabetics.

In this paper,we present both electrical and optical simulations of silicon guided-wave electro-optic modulators. The simulation starts with design of modulators using a two-dimensional(2D) semiconductor process simulator. The electrical properties of the modulators are analyzed by a 2D device ***,the simulated electrical parameters are converted into optical parameters by proper electro-optic *** optical simulations are performed with both finite-difference-time-domain(FDTD) and mode-propagation-by-Fourier-expansion(MPFE) *** advantages of combining and using these two algorithms together are better accuracy and capability of analyzing arbitrarily shaped and optically large structures. The technique is illustrated by simulation and analysis of a series of silicon guided-wave electro-optic modulators.

A combinatorial approach of developing alloy thin films using co-sputtering technique for displays

In this study we have used a combinatorial approach for producing binary and ternary alloy thin film libraries using a lab-scale RF co-sputtering system. Initially we used two elemental sputtering targets, i.e. aluminum (Al) target and neodymium (Nd) target, to produce a film library of varying composition and successfully identified a suitable composition range (1.95–2.38 at% Nd) in which resistance to hillock formation and resistivity of the film spots were found to be satisfactory in annealed state (350°c, 30 min). In another case, in order to form ternary alloy composition library we have used two sputtering targets, i.e. an Al-0.5 at% Nd alloy target and an elemental Ni target. Though, co-sputtered Al-0.6 at% Nd-0.9 at% Ni alloy films showed satisfactory resistance to hillock formation and low resistivity after annealing, film deposited from a ternary alloy target with the same composition failed to show satisfactory resistance to hillock formation during annealing. In case of Al-0.6 at% Nd-0.9 at% Ni alloy target, 250 nm thick film showed poor resistance to hillock formation than the 500 nm thick film. This clearly showed thickness-dependent hillock performance of Al-0.6 at% Nd-0.9 at% Ni alloy. In this study it was found that, in addition to the process variables, metallurgical microstructure of the alloy sputtering targets had significant effect on the film properties which was not obvious from the results of films deposited using co-sputtering of the individual elemental targets.

Epac2-deficiency leads to more severe retinal swelling, glial reactivity and oxidative stress in transient middle cerebral artery occlusion induced ischemic retinopathy

Ischemia occurs in diabetic retinopathy with neuronal loss, edema, glial cell reactivity and oxidative stress. Epacs, consisting of Epac 1 and Epac2, are cAMP mediators playing important roles in maintenance of endothelial barrier and neuronal functions To investigate the roles of Epacs in the pathogenesis of ischemic retinopathy, transient middle cerebral artery occlusion （tMcAO） was performed on Epacl-deficient （Epacl-/- ） mice, Epac2-deficient （Epac2-/-） mice, and their wild type counter-parts （Epacl＋/＋ and Epac2＋/＋）. Two-hour occlusion and 22-hour reperfusion were conducted to induce ischemia/reperfusion injury to the retina. After tMcAO, the contralateral retinae displayed similar morphology between different genotypes. Neu-ronal loss, retinal edema and increase in immunoreactivity for aquaporin 4 （AQP4）, glial fibrillary acidic protein （GFAP）, peroxiredoxin 6 （Prx6） were observed in ipsilateral retinae. Epac2 / ipsilateral retinae showed more neuronal loss in retinal ganglion cell layer, increased retinal thickness and stronger immunostaining of AQP4, GFAP, and Prx6 than those of Epac2＋/＋. However, Epacl-/- ipsilateral retinae displayed similar pathology as those in Epacl＋/＋ mice. Our observations suggest that Epac2-deficiency led to more severe ischemic retinopathy after retinal ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Tensin-1(TNS1)is a 220 kD focal adhesion protein that binds to actin filaments,integrin receptors,small GTPases,tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins,and lipids.1 These binding activities enable TNS1 to link the actin cytoskeleton to integrins and transduce outside-in and inside-out signals at focal adhesion sites,thereby regulating cell attachment,migration,proliferation,and mechanical sensing.1 Lack of TNS1 in kidney epithelial cells results in multiple lumen,instead of single lumen,phenotypes in the three-dimensional(3D)culture.
