The scope of the present research aims at demonstrating the 3D printing use in the manufacturing of microchannels for chemical process applications. A comparison among digital model processing applications for 3D print(slicers) and a print layer thickness analysis were performed. The 3D print fidelity was verified in several devices, including the microchannels’ printing with and without micromixer zones. In order to highlight the 3D print potential in chemical Engineering, the biodiesel synthesis was also carried out in a millireactor manufactured by 3D printing. The millireactor operated under laminar flow regime with a total flow rate of 75.25 ml·min^-1(increment of about 130 times over traditional microdevices used for biodiesel production).The printed millireactor provided a maximum yield of Ethyl Esters of 73.51% at 40 ℃, ethanol:oil molar ratio of7 and catalyst concentration of 1.25 wt% and residence time about 10 s. As a result of flow rate increment attained in the millireactor, the number of required units for scaling-up the chemical processes is reduced. Using the approach described in the present research, anyone could produce their own millireactor for chemical process in a simple way with the aid of a 3D printer.

The use of biochar can have several effects on plant germination,depending on raw material,preparation method and application ***,the molecular mechanisms that lead to those results have yet to be *** aim of this research was to improve the understanding of these mechanisms by characterizing the metabolic effects of sugarcane bagasse biochar on soybean *** types of biochars were prepared by pyrolysis at 300℃(ScB300),400℃(ScB400)and 600℃(ScB600).Then,each one was mixed into sand at 1%,3%,5%(w/w)dose,*** experiment was performed in 8 days of incubation,when the number of germinated seeds and the average radicle length were *** evaluate the metabolome,the dry biomass(DB)was subjected to extraction with a mixture of methanol-d4 and D2O(1:1 v/v).The extracts were submitted to metabolomics analysis by Proton Nuclear Magnetic *** Relative Germination,Relative Average Radicle Growth and Germination Index increased in all treatments compared to *** the other hand,the DB increased in all treatments,except for ScB300,at doses of 1%and 3%w/*** metabolites(alanine,asparagine,acetic acid,citric acid,glycerol,fatty acids and sucrose)were identified and quantified in DB extracts as the most influential finding for the separation of *** together,these results strongly suggested that biochars accelerated the catabolism of triacylglycerols to sucrose and induced a slight osmotic stress.

Tailoring the partitioning of proteins using ionic liquids as adjuvants in polymer-polymer aqueous biphasic systems

Aqueous biphasic systems(ABS)are promising for proteins purification;however,when dealing with samples comprising several proteins,the selectivity towards a target protein is difficult to *** this work,the addition of ionic liquids(ILs)as adjuvants(5 wt%and 10 wt%)in ABS composed of polyethylene glycol(PEG)and dextran was investigated to tailor proteins partitioning between the coexisting *** liquid-liquid phase diagrams were determined at 298 K,followed by partition studies of three proteins(bovine serum albumin(BSA),immunoglobulin G(IgG),and cytochrome c(cyt c)).Partition coefficients of IgG and BSA indicate the preference of both proteins to the dextran-rich phase,whereas cyt c has no preferential partitioning between the *** addition of chloride-based ILs as adjuvants allows to increase or decrease the partition coefficients,thus tailoring the proteins partitioning between the *** partitioning essentially depends on the IL content in each phase,whereas cyt c and IgG partitioning is ruled by the ILs chemical structure and established *** docking was carried out to address the ILs effect on the proteins partitioning,supporting experimental observations,while identifying the specific interactions *** partition of each protein in polymer-salt ABS with ILs as adjuvants was determined,demonstrating the higher tailoring ability of polymer-polymer ABS when adding ***,the partition of each protein in presence of the remaining ones was determined,as well as the selectivity of the studied systems to separate each pair of proteins,paving the way for their use in liquidliquid chromatography.

The aim of this study was to evaluate methods for breaking dormancy of seeds Neonotonia wightii (perennial soybean), Macrotiloma axilare (archer), Pueraria phaseoloides (tropical kudzu), calopogonium mucunoides (calopo), which were subjected to the following treatments for physical breaks and physiological dormancy: 1) control;2) scarification with sandpaper;3) immersion in H2SO4 98% for five minutes and subsequent washing in water;4) preheating at 60°c for 150 minutes in an air circulating oven;5) 0.2% KNO3;and 6) gibberellic acid (GA3 0.5%). The results showed that using H2SO4 to break seed dormancy archer and perennial soybean and calopo scarification with sandpaper were the most recommended treatments. Tropical Kudzu presented physiological response to treatments with the use of gibberellic acid and physical treatment using immersion H2SO4. Thus, it is necessary to use techniques to make the breaking dormancy of seeds of legumes, resulting in an increase in the rate of seed germination and rapid deployment of the legume.

The thin layer activation technique(TLA)is very effective in wear analysis for tribological systems where disassembly is costly or *** its development in the 1970s,TLA has been applied through direct irradiation of solid targets using ionizing particle beams to obtain an activation with a specific *** profile is then used to measure wear in a variety of *** experiments rely heavily on how deep the normalized activation *** of 30μm to 50μm are obtained for constant activation by the standard method,which for many experiments is ***,many others would benefit greatly from a 300μm constant activation layer,such as high-performance engines,softer alloys(brakes),and oil transport *** this aim was the goal of this ***,we needed to find an adequate irradiation line for the TLA ***,another technique/system was developed(the Attenuation Wheel),which would bring the depth of constant activation from 50μm to 300μm.

Vertically aligned p-silicon nanowire （SiNW） arrays have been extensively investigated in recent years as promising photocathodes for solar-driven hydrogen evolution. However, the fabrication of SiNW photocathodes with both high photoelectrocatalytic activity and long-term operational stability using a simple and affordable approach is a challenging task. Herein, we report conformal and continuous deposition of a di-cobalt phosphide （c02P） layer on lithography- patterned highly ordered SiNW arrays via a cost-effective drop-casting method followed by a low-temperature phosphorization treatment. The as-deposited c02P layer consists of crystalline nanoparticles and has an intimate contact with SiNWs, forming a well-defined SiNW@co2P core/shell nanostructure. The conformal and continuous co2P layer functions as a highly efficient catalyst capable of substantially improving the photoelectrocatalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction （HER） and effectively passivates the SiNWs to protect them from photo-oxidation, thus prolonging the lifetime of the electrode. As a consequence, the SiNW@co2P photocathode with an optimized c02P layer thickness exhibits a high photocurrent density of -21.9 mA·cm^-2 at 0 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode and excellent operational stability up to 20 h for solar-driven hydrogen evolution, outperforming many nanostructured silicon photocathodes reported in the literature. The combination of passivation and catalytic functions in a single continuous layer represents a promising strategy for designing high-performance semiconductor photoelectrodes for use in solar-driven water splitting, which may simplify fabrication procedures and potentially reduce production costs.

Impact of laparoscopic surgery training laboratory on surgeon's performance

Minimally invasive surgery has been replacing the open standard technique in several procedures. Similar or even better postoperative outcomes have been described in laparoscopic or robot-assisted procedures when compared to open surgery. Moreover, minimally invasive surgery has been providing less postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization, and thus a faster return to daily activities. However, the learning curve required to obtain laparoscopic expertise has been a barrier in laparoscopic spreading. Laparoscopic surgery training laboratory has been developed to aid surgeons to overcome the challenging learning curve. It may include tutorials, inanimate model skills training(box models and virtual reality simulators), animal laboratory, and operating room observation. Several different laparoscopic courses are available with specific characteristics and goals. Herein, we aim to describe the activities performed in a dry and animal-model training laboratory and to evaluate the impact of different kinds of laparoscopic surgery training courses on surgeon's performance. Several tasks are performed in dry and animal laboratory to reproduce a real surgery. A short period of training can improve laparoscopic surgical skills, although most of times it is not enough to confer laparoscopic expertise for participants. Nevertheless, this short period of training is able to increase the laparoscopic practice of surgeons in their communities. full laparoscopic training in medical residence or fellowship programs is the best way of stimulating laparoscopic dissemination.

Distinct and combined impacts of climate and land use scenarios on water availability and sediment loads for a water supply reservoir in northern Morocco

The objective of this study was to examine the impacts of climate and land use changes on wateravailability and sediment loads for a water supply reservoir in northern Morocco using data-intensive simulation models in a data-scarce region. Impacts were assessed by comparing the simulated water and sediment entering the reservoir between the future period 2031-2050 and the 1983-2010 reference period. Three scenarios of land use change and two scenarios of climate change were developed in the Tleta watershed. Simulations under current and future conditions were performed using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model. The simulations showed that climate change will lead to a sig-nificant decrease in the annual water supply to the reservoir (-16.9% and -27.5%) and in the annual volume of sediment entering the reservoir (-7.4% and -12.6%), depending on the climate change sce-narios tested. The three scenarios of land use change will lead to a moderate change in annual water inflow into the reservoir (between-6.7% and +6.2%), while causing a significant decrease in sediment entering the reservoir (-37%to-24%). The combined impacts of climate and land use changes will cause a reduction in annual water availability (-9.9%to-33.3%) and sediment supplies (-28.7%to-45.8%). As a result, the lifetime of the reservoir will be extended, but at the same time, the risk of water shortages will increase, especially from July to March. Therefore, alternative water resources must be considered.
