The tephra.la.ers in multiple sediment cores from the offshore region of the Ma.a.a.i ba.in in the northern Ba. of Benga. were investiga.ed for possible volca.ic sources. The gla.s sha.ds from those tephra.la.ers were studied for size distribution, texture, a.d elementa. geochemistry to esta.lish chronostra.igra.hic ma.kers for regiona. a.d globa. Qua.erna.y correla.ion. The textura. fea.ures of fine-gra.ned(silty) volca.ic gla.ses suggest the dista. source of these tephra.deposits. Ma.or element composition with eleva.ed SiO_(2) contents ra.ging between75%–76% a.d domina.ce of K_(2)O(> 4.5%) over Ca.(a.hes ha.e origina.ed from siliceous rhyolitic melts, simila. to the petrogra.hic composition of tephra.from the Toba.volca.o. The bulk tra.e element compositions of the sa.e gla.s sha.ds were compa.a.le with those reported in the youngest Toba.tephra.reported elsewhere. Likewise, the LREE-domina.ed chondrite norma.ized REE profiles of tephra.from the Ma.a.a.i ba.in closely resemble the cha.a.teristic REE pa.terns in Toba.a.h from other pa.ts of the India. Ocea. a.d thus confirmed the contribution of the youngest Toba.super-eruption for this a.h la.ers.

The objective of this work is to develop a. a.toma.ion system for qua.ity control (QC) in the production of Iodine-125 sea.ed sources, a.ter undergoing the process of la.er bea. welding (LBW). These sources, a.so known a. Iodine-125 seeds a.e used, successfully, in the trea.ment of ca.cer by bra.hythera.y, with low-dose ra.es. Ea.h sma.l seed is composed of a.welded tita.ium ca.sule with 0.8 mm dia.eter a.d 4.5 mm in length, conta.ning Iodine-125 a.sorbed on a. interna. silver wire. The seeds a.e impla.ted in the huma. prosta.e to irra.ia.e the tumor a.d trea. the ca.cerous cells. The technology to a.toma.e the qua.ity control system in the ma.ufa.ture of Iodine-125 seeds consists in developing a.d a.socia.e mecha.ica. pa.ts, electronic components a.d pneuma.ic circuits to control ma.hines a.d processes. The a.toma.ion technology for Iodine-125 seed production developed in this work employs progra.ma.le logic controller (PLC), step motors, drivers of control, electrica.-electronic interfa.es, photoelectric sensors, interfa.es of communica.ion a.d softwa.e development. Industria. a.toma.ion pla.s a. importa.t role in the production of Iodine-125 seeds, with higher productivity a.d high sta.da.d of qua.ity, fa.ilita.ing the implementa.ion a.d opera.ion of processes with good ma.ufa.turing pra.tices (GMP). Nowa.a.s, the Ra.ia.ion Technology Centre a. IPEN-CNEN/SP imports a.d distributes 36,000 Iodine-125 seeds per yea. for clinics a.d hospita.s in the whole country. However, the Bra.ilia. potentia. ma.ket is of 8,000 Iodine-125 seeds per month. Therefore, the loca. production of these ra.ioa.tive seeds ha. become a.priority for the Institute, a.ming to reduce the price a.d increa.e the supply to the popula.ion in Bra.il.
