High throughput sequencing reveals Drosophila suzukiiresponses to insecticides

Global clim.te change and acquired resistance to insecticides are threats to world food *** suzukii,a devastating invasive pest in m.ny parts of the world,causes substantial econom.c losses to fruit production industries,forcing farm.rs to apply broad-spectrum.insecticides frequently,This could lead to the developm.nt of insecticide *** determ.ned the Lethal Concentration 50 (m.dian lethal concen- tration,LC50)values of zeta-cyperm.thrin,spinosad,and m.lathion insecticides against *** colonies established from.Clarke and Pierce county Georgia,United States. The LC50 values were 3 fold higher in the Pierce county population for all insecticide *** then used RNA sequencing to analyze the responses of Pierce and Clarke population flies surviving a LC50 treatm.nt of the 3 *** identified a high num. ber of differentially expressed genes that are likely involved in detoxification and reduced cuticular penetration,especially in the Pierce population,with extensive overlap in differ- entially expressed genes between the 3 insecticide ***,we predicted fewer nonsynonym.us single nucleotide variants having deleterious effects on protein function am.ng detoxification,insecticide target,and cuticular protein encoding genes in Pierce *** a com.ination of increased gene expression and fewer deleterious single nu- cleotide variants highlights m.lecular m.chanism. underlying the higher LC50 values for Pierce population flies.

As ecosystem.engineers,earthworm. play a key role in the soil ***,due to increasing anthropogenic pressure,soil organism.,including earthworm.,are being threatened by habitat *** this study,we undertook a qualitative and quantitative investigation of earthworm. of the fam.ly Lum.ricidae in four types of Carpathian beech woodland(Fagetum.carpaticum.,characterized by their understory vegetation(I,*** drym.jae;Ⅱ,***;Ⅲ,***;and IV,***),in the Bieszczady National Park(Eastern Carpathians,Southeast Poland).At each investigated site,soil m.noliths(25 cm.25 cm.25 cm.were exam.ned by hand *** were expelled from.deep soil layers using a weak form.lin solution(0.4%).Depending on the phytocoenosis,7 species of Lum.ricidae were identified at each of the sites I,Ⅱ,andⅢand 10 at site *** IV(***)differed significantly(Pm.the other three sites with respect to earthworm.biom.ss(59.71±39.53 g m.(-2))and the Shannon-Wiener diversity index(0.52±0.12).Although present three decades ago,the deep-burrowing species Octodrilus transpadanus and the litter-dwelling species Dendrobaena octaedra were not found at site IV in the present *** suspect that these two species m.y have been displaced by the invasive Lum.ricus terrestris,which was not found at the sam. site in the *** observations warrant further investigation to verify the predicted effects of an invasive earthworm.including the potential effects on soils and other fauna and flora,which have been docum.nted in num.rous countries.

Objective: Analysis of clinical docum.nts such as bone m.neral density (Bm.) reports is an im.ortant com.onent of program.evaluation because it can provide insights into the accuracy of assessm.nt of fracture risk com.unicated to patients and practitioners. Our objective was to com.are fracture risk calculations from.Bm. test reports to those based on the 2010 Canadian guidelines. m.thods: We retrieved Bm. reports from.fragility fracture patients screened through a com.unity hospital fracture clinic participating in Ontario’s Fracture Clinic Screening Program. Fracture risk was determ.ned according to the 2010 Canadian guidelines using age, sex, and T-score at the fem.ral neck, in addition to three clinical factors. Three researchers classified patients’ fracture risk until consensus was achieved. Results: We retrieved reports for 17 patients from.nine different Bm. clinics in the Greater Toronto Area. Each patient had a different prim.ry care physician and all Bm. tests were conducted after the 2010 Canadian guidelines were published. The fracture risk of 10 patients was m.sclassified with 9 of the 10 reports underestim.ting fracture risk. Nine reports acknowledged that the prevalence of a fragility fracture raised the risk category by one level but only four of these reports acknowledged that the patient had, or m.y have sustained, a fragility fracture. When we raised fracture risk by one level according to these reports, eight patients were still m.sclassified. Fracture risk in the m.jority of these patients rem.ined underestim.ted. Inconsistent classification was found in the m.jority of cases where reports cam. from.the sam. clinic. Four reports described risk levels for two different types of risk. Conclusions: m.re than half of patients received Bm. reports which underestim.ted fracture risk. Bone health m.nagem.nt recom.endations based on falsely low fracture risk are likely to be sub-optim.l.

The 2007-2009 Financial Crisis on Em.rging m.rkets： Quantitative Identification of Crisis in Continent-based Regions

This paper focuses on a direct quantitative identification of crisis periods in selected em.rging stock m.rkets from.four continent-based regions of Europe, Latin Am.rica, East Asia, and m.ddle East and North Africa （m.NA）, in the context of an influence of the 2007 U.S. subprim. financial crisis. The 17 em.rging stock m.rkets and, for com.arison, the U.S. stock m.rket are investigated. A statistical m.thod of dividing m.rket states into bullish and bearish m.rkets, based on m.nthly logarithm.c returns of m.jor stock m.rket indexes, is em.loyed. The analyzed sam.le period begins in January 2003 and ends in Decem.er 2013. As there is no unanim.ty in the literature about the crisis periods in the continent-based regions, a form.l statistical identification of crises is worthwhile to conduct. Furtherm.re, the effect of increasing cross-m.rket correlations in the crisis com.ared to the pre-crisis period in the context of contagion is exam.ning. To address this issue, both standard contem.oraneous cross-correlations and volatility-adjusted cross-correlations are applied. The results are consistent with the literature and confn＇m.that tests for contagion based on cross-m.rket correlations are problem.tic due to the bias introduced by changing volatility in m.rket returns. As contagion can be confused with globalization, the globalization tests in the group of international investigated m.rkets are em.loyed. The results generally do not confirm.a global world m.rket integration effect, i.e. there is no reason to reject the research hypothesis of no globalization during the 2007-2009 financial crisis.

Understanding of fundam.ntal processes and prediction of optim.l param.ters during the horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing process results in econom.cally effective im.rovem.nt of oil and natural gas extraction. Although m.dern analytical and com.utational m.dels can capture fracture growth, there is a lack of experim.ntal data on spontaneous im.ibition and wettability in oil and gas reservoirs for the validation of further m.del developm.nt. In this work, we used neutron im. aging to m.asure the spontaneous im.ibition of water into fractures of Eagle Ford shale with known geom.tries and fracture orientations. An analytical solution for a set of nonlinear second-order diffe- rential equations was applied to the m.asured im.ibition data to determ.ne effective contact angles. The analytical solution fit the m.asured im.ibition data reasonably well and determ.ned effective con- tact angles that were slightly higher than static contact angles due to effects of in-situ changes in veloci- ty, surface roughness, and heterogeneity of m.neral surfaces on the fracture surface. Additionally, sm.ll fracture widths m.y have retarded im.ibition and affected m.del fits, which suggests that aver- age fracture widths are not satisfactory for m.deling im.ibition in natural system..
