We review the recent progress that have led to the development of porous materials based on cellulose nanostructures found in plants and other resources. In light of the properties that emerge from the chemistry, shape and structural control, we discuss some of the most promising uses of a plant-based material, nanocellulose, in regenerative medicine. Following a brief discussion about the fundamental aspects of self-assembly of nanocellulose precursors, we review the key strategies needed for material synthesis and to adjust the architecture of the materials (using three-dimensional printing, freeze-casted porous materials, and electrospinning) according to their uses in tissue engineering, artificial organs, controlled drug delivery and wound healing systems, among others. For this purpose, we map the structure-property-function relationships of nanocellulose-based porous materials and examine the course of actions that are required to translate innovation from the laboratory to industry. Such efforts require attention to regulatory aspects and market pull. Finally, the key challenges and opportunities in this nascent field are critically reviewed.

Background: European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy( ESGE) recommends needle-knife fstulotomy(NKF) as the preferred precut technique in cases when standard cannulation techniques fail. Despite scarce scientifc evidence, flat and diverticular papillae are thought not to be ideal for NKF, as they are associated with poor outcomes. The present study aimed to determine the outcomes of the use of NKF in relation to flat and intradiverticular papillae. Methods: This prospective multicenter study enrolled consecutive patients, evidencing na?ve flat(group A, n = 49) or diverticular papilla(group B, n = 28), who underwent NKF after failure of standard cannulation techniques. Diverticular morphology was subdivided into intradiverticular(group B1, n = 14) and diverticular border papillae(group B2, n = 14), using a previously validated endoscopic classifcation of the major papilla. The success of biliary cannulation at initial endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP), overall biliary cannulation, overall cannulation time, and the rate of adverse events were assessed in the study. Results: The initial cannulation rates were 93.9%, 64.3% and 71.4% for group A, B1, and B2, respectively( P = 0.005);overall cannulation rates after a second ERCP were 98.0%, 92.9% and 85.7%, respectively( P = 0.134). Adverse events occurred in 11.7% of patients, with post-ERCP pancreatitis(PEP) being the most common adverse event(10.4%). Although there was a trend towards a higher incidence of PEP in flat papillae, univariate and multivariate analyses did not show any signifcant relationship between pancreatitis and trainee involvement, papillary morphology, nor overall cannulation time. Conclusions: Although flat papillae are associated with high success rates of biliary cannulation using NKF, the rate of PEP is not negligible. NKF is feasible in diverticular papillae, but it is associated with a modest success rate in the initial ERCP.

hyperonic neutron stars: reconciliation between nuclear properties and NICER and LIGO/VIRGO results

Using an extended version of quantum hadrodynamics,I propose a new microscopic equation of state(EoS)that is able to correctly reproduce the main properties of symmetric nuclear matter at the saturation density,as well as produce massive neutron stars and satisfactory results for the radius and the tidal parameter.I show that this EoS can reproduce at least a 2.00 solar mass neutron star,even when hyperons are *** constraints about the radius of a 2.00 M_(⊙) and the minimum mass that enables a direct Urea effect are also checked.

Entropy model to assess sediment resuspension probability and trap efficiency of small dams

In the Brazilian drylands, there are tens of thousands of small dams. Despite their paramount importance to the rural population, they are rarely monitored. Water demand increases with time while, simultaneously, siltation reduces reservoir water capacity and availability. Reservoir siltation models are, therefore, mandatory to manage the numerous ungauged small dams in these *** objective of the current study is to improve sediment trap efficiency(TE) modeling by including resuspension as a key probabilistic process. The Shannon entropy was used to estimate the sediment resuspension probability, which was merged with the Camp model and generated the RETSED entropy model. To validate the RETSED model, an experimental check dam(ECD, 300 m3), located in the Gilbu es desertification site, Brazil, was monitored hourly during one hydrological year(July 2018-July 2019). Measurements show that the annual volumetric decline of the check dam was 12%; and that the average trap efficiency equaled 86%. Only 9.5% of the hourly sediment concentration outflow exceeded the average plus one standard deviation, showing that the reservoir is well mixed; a fact which highlights the relevance of the resuspension process. Three empirical models failed to mimic the experimental results: Churchill(TE = 99%), Brune(TE = 75%), and Maryland(TE = 94%). According to the RETSED entropy model, the resuspension probability during the experiment was 10%and TE = 81%, a value only 6% below the measured one. The Camp model simulated TE = 89%, only 3%higher than the measured value, but confirmed the Camp model’s tendency to overestimate TE due to a disregard of resuspension. The deterministic model showed low sensitivity concerning the hydrodynamic effects, whereas the entropy formulation proved to be more consistent with physical behavior: the resuspension probability clearly increased and trap efficiency decreased with rising reservoir discharge.

Immunohistochemical study of the digestive tract of Oligosarcus hepsetus

AIM: To describe the histology of the digestive tract and to investigate the occurrence of endocrine cells in Oligosarcus hepsetus (O. hepsetus ). METhODS: The digestive tract (DT) of O. hepsetus was divided into esophagus, two stomach regions (glandular and non-glandular) and two intestinal regions (anterior and posterior). These specimens were processed by routine histological techniques and stained with hematoxylin-eosin, Gomori's trichrome, periodic acid Schiff (PAS) and Alcian blue (AB). An immunohistochemical method using avidin-biotin-peroxidase was ***: The esophagus is lined with a non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium that is reactive to PAS and AB. The stomach has a mucosa lined with a simple columnar epithelium with mucus-secreting cells that are reactive only to PAS. The intestine has a simple columnar epithelium with a brush border and goblet cells that are reactive to PAS and AB. Somatostatin, serotonin and cholecystokinin immunoreactive cells were identified throughout the ***: This study revealed adaptations for the species' diet and showed that the distribution and relative frequency of immunoreactive cells are similar to those of other fish.

A Differential Evolution Approach for Protein Folding Using a Lattice Model

Protein folding is a relevant computational problem in Bioinformatics, for which many heuristic algorithms have been proposed. This work presents a methodology for the application of differential evolution （DE） to the problem of protein folding, using the bi-dimensional hydrophobic-polar model. DE is a relatively recent evolutionary algorithm, and has been used successfully in several engineering optimization problems, usually with continuous variables. We introduce the concept of genotype-phenotype mapping in DE in order to provide a mapping between the real-valued vector and an actual folding. The methodology is detailed and several experiments with benchmarks are done. We compared the results with other similar implementations. The proposed DE has shown to be competitive, statistically consistent and very promising.

No evidence of hPV DNA in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in a population of Southern Brazil

AIM:To investigate the association between human papillomavirus(hPV)and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)in southern ***:We studied 189 esophageal samples from125 patients from three different groups:(1)102 biopsies from 51 patients with ESCC,with one sample from the tumor and another from normal esophageal mucosa distant from the tumor;(2)50 esophageal biopsies from 37 patients with a previous diagnosis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(hNSCC);and(3)37 biopsies from esophageal mucosa with normal appearance from 37 dyspeptic patients,not exposed to smoking or alcohol ***-polymerase chain reaction(PCR)with the MY09/11 and GP5/6 L1primers was used to detect hPV L1 in samples fixed in formalin and stored in paraffin *** PCR reactions were performed with a positive control(cervicovaginal samples),with a negative control(human Genomic DNA)and with a blank reaction containing all reagents except *** took extreme care to prevent DNA contamination in sample collection,processing,and ***:The histological biopsies confirmed the diagnosis of ESCC in 52 samples(51 from ESCC group and 1 from the hNSCC group)and classified as well differentiated(12/52,23.1%),moderately differentiated(27/52,51.9%)or poorly differentiated(7/52,13.5%).One hundred twenty-eight esophageal biopsies were considered normal(51 from the ESCC group,42 from the hNSCC group and 35 from dyspeptic patients).Nine had esophagitis(7 from the hNSCC and 2 from dyspeptic patients).Of a total of 189 samples,only 6 samples had insufficient material for PCR analysis:1 from mucosa distant from the tumor in a patient with ESCC,3from patients with hNSCC and 2 from patients without *** 183 samples(96.8%)GAPDh,G3PDh and/orβ-globin were amplified,thus indicating the adequacy of the DNA in those *** DNA was negative in all the 183 samples tested:52 with ESCC,9 with esophagitis and 122 with normal esophageal ***:There was no evidence of hP
