The present study was to evaluate the effect of trace minerals(Zn,mn,and Cu)from complexed amino acid minerals(ZmCAA)and bis-glycinate chelated minerals(ZmCGly)in laying hen diets on performance,internal and external egg quality,yolk mineral deposition,intestinal morphometry,and bone *** 78 to 98 weeks of age,400 White LSL-Lite strain laying hens were distributed in a randomized design with 4 treatments with 10 replicates per *** were distributed in a 2×2 factorial arrangement using either Zn,mn,and Cu of ZmCAA or ZmCGly source at 2 levels:low(20,20,and 3.5 mg/kg of Zn,mn,and Cu,respectively)or high(40,40,and 7 mg/kg of Zn,mn,and Cu,respectively).The analysis of variance was performed,and in cases where differences were observed,the means were compared using Tukey?s test(Pource and level of trace mineral supplementation had a significant impact on the performance of laying *** fed ZmCAA had higher egg production(P=0.01),egg weight(P=0.02),egg mass(P=0.01),and lower feed conversion ratio(P=0.05)compared to those fed *** ZmCAA supplementation showed higher albumen height(P=0.01),albumen weight(P=0.01),and eggshell thickness(Position of Zn(Pmn(Polk was greater for hens received *** weight(P=0.04)and bone densitometry(PmCAA *** the small intestine,ZmCAA resulted in longer villi(P=0.02)and shorter crypt depth(P=0.01)in the *** and ileum measurements were influenced by the level and source of trace minerals(PmCAA exhibited superior performance,egg quality,deposition of trace minerals in the egg yolk,and bone density compared to hens fed *** this study,older laying hens supplemented with ZmCAA at lower levels demonstrated adequate levels of supplementation.

The roots of the vegetal Curcuma due to its high content of polyphenols,has been used successfully in several clinical *** review assessed the effect of curcumin/Curcuma longa on symptoms and metabolic changes in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).A systematic review of animal models and randomized clinical trials(RCTs)was conducted by searching the following electronic databases:Pubmed,CENTRAL,LILACS,Science Direct,and *** 997 found records,62 were *** than 90%of the animal studies reported an improvement in macroscopic,histologic and/or functional activity;80%identified decreased oxidative and/or inflammatory biomarkers in animals treated with *** the RCTs,intention-to-treat analysis showed that oral curcumin was effective in inducing clinical remission(n=281,RR:3.15 CI 95%[1.22–8.10]p=0.0017;i2=72.2%,p=0.006)and clinical response(n=259,RR:1.60 CI 95%[1.09–2.35]p=0.0017;i2=59.7%,p=0.042)but not endoscopic remission(n=161,RR:2.91 CI 95%[0.58–14.58]p=0.195;i2=72.7%,p=0.026).These results confirm that oral supplementation with curcumin/Curcuma longa has beneficial actions in animal colitis and,when associated with drug therapy,is effective in the treatment of patients with IBD.

AIm To evaluate the relation between 12 polymorphisms and the development of gastric cancer(GC) and colorectal cancer(CRC).mETHoDS In this study,we included 125 individuals with GC diagnosis,66 individuals with CRC diagnosis and 475 cancer-free individuals. All participants resided in the North region of Brazil and authorized the use of their samples. The 12 polymorphisms(in CASP8,CYP2 E1,CYP19 A1,IL1 A,IL4,mDm2,NFKB1,PAR1,TP53,TYmS,UGT1 A1 and XRCC1 genes) were genotyped in a single PCR for each individual,followed by fragment analysis. To avoid misinterpretation due to population substructure,we applied a previously developed set of 61 ancestryinformative markers that can also be genotyped by multiplex PCR. The statistical analyses were performed in Structure v.2.3.4,R environment and SPSS *** After statistical analyses with the control of confounding factors,such as genetic ancestry,three markers(rs79071878 in IL4,rs3730485 in mDm2 and rs28362491 in NFKB1) were positively associated with the development of GC. one of these markers(rs28362491) and the marker in the UGT1 A1 gene(rs8175347) were positively associated with the development of CRC. Therefore,we investigated whether the joint presence of the deleterious alleles of each marker could affect the development of cancer and we obtained positive results in all analyses. Carriers of the combination of alleles RP1 + DEL(rs79071878 and rs28361491,respectively) are at 10-times greater risk of developing GC than carriers of other combinations. Similarly,carriers of the combination of DEL + RARE(rs283628 and rs8175347) are at about 12-times greater risk of developing CRC than carriers of other *** These findings are important for the comprehension of gastric and CRC development,particularly in highly admixed populations,such as the Brazilian population.

Species of Staphylococcus are common in hospital infection (HI). methicillin resistant S. aureus (mRSA) has also become a serious problem in Brazilian HI. The aim of this study was to characterize the pathogenicity of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (mRSA) and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (mSSA) isolated in public hospitals. The clinical isolates were obtained from intensive care unit. The mRSA and mSSA strains were genotyped by PCR for detection genes related to virulence factors. moreover, the strains were tested for biofilm formation and cytokine induction in macrophages. Three strains of mRSA (9.68%) expressed the Sea gene, one (3.23%) Seb, 17 (54.84%) Spa and seven (22.58%) had PVL. Two mSSA strains (2.98%) expressed the Sea gene, three (4.48%) Seb, 18 (26.87%) Spa and 11 (16.42%) showed positive results for the PVL gene. There was no expression of Sec and CflA between mRSA and mSSA strains. Among mRSA and mSSA isolates, none statistical differences were observed in biofilm production. The analysis of cytokine induction in the inflammatory response of J774 macrophages by mRSA and mSSA isolates did not show statistical difference. Understanding the mechanisms of pathogenesis of S. aureus could provide important clues for both preventing and treating infection caused by these organisms.

Background:In Cerrado humid areas,veredas are considered as hygrophilous communities,marked by the presence of the mauritia flexuosa palm tree emerging in the wetter *** in veredas ecosystems due to drought and changes in the water table,which represent important areas for biodiversity maintenance in the Brazilian cerrado,can lead to the emergence of new landscapes and *** that the veredas are changed in species composition due to anthropogenic factors,in this study,we evaluated the flora composition and described the current vegetation profile of two veredas under different disturbances levels that are located in the north of minas Gerais State,***:Altogether,2,268 individuals of 91 species belonging to 36 families were *** results demonstrated that the studied veredas were floristically different in terms of the arboreous-shrubby species composition,richness,and *** the hygrophilous forest formations and open areas in the two veredas present typical species from these environments(same species with high importance values),the drought in the water table caused an expansion of Cerrado species in the open areas and in the hygrophilous ***,in the hygrophilous forest there was an increase in the abundance of species that occur in less saturated ***:our results demonstrate that the studied veredas are changing in species composition due to anthropogenic factors which leads to the drought of these formations(water balance effect).These anthropogenic effects cause a modification with the expansion and increase in the abundance of typical species of other areas of Cerrado and resistant to less saturated soils,leading to the veredas ***,future studies should investigate other veredas on a broader scale to detect changes in the water table that lead to a consequent change in vegetation *** this way,we will have support for the conscientious management and conservatio

Acute sensorineural hearing loss associated with peginterferon and ribavirin combination therapy during hepatitis C treatment: outcome after resumption of therapy

Peginterferon and ribavirin combination therapy for the treatment of hepatitis C virus （HCV） is well known to be associated with significant adverse effects. Sensorineural hearing loss, that in most cases is unilateral, has been reported as a consequence of therapy with both non-pegylabed and pegylated interferon （pegIFN） but is not a well-known adverse effect. We report a 45-year-old Caucasian woman who developed acute sensorineural hearing loss 2 mo after starting therapy with pegIFN-α 2b and ribavirin for the treatment of chronic HCV, genotype la. She did not report the hearing loss to the hepatitis clinic until 1 mo, later whereupon therapy was promptly discontinued. Although her serum alanine aminotransferase （ALT） normalized and her HCV-RNA became undetectable after 12 wk of pegIFN and dbavirin therapy, after discontinuation, her HCV-RNA became detectable with significant elevations of serum ALT. Four months after initial discontinuation, the patient re-commenced pegIFN and ribavirin combination therapy. After 44 of 48 wk of therapy, the patient＇s liver biochemistry has normalized and the HCV-RNA is undetectable. She has not developed worsening of her hearing loss and hearing on the left-side is unaffected. Both patients and physicians should be aware that sensorineural hearing loss may occur with pegIFN therapy. our experience suggests that re-institution of therapy is not always associated with further hearing impairment.
