The consumption of marine macroalgae has been linked with health benefits,albeit some actions,including genoprotection,remain ***,we evaluated the genoprotective potential of a mixture of Ulva rigida,Fucus vesiculosus and Gracilaria gracilis,through direct consumption or via indirect intake using fish(Sparus aurata)as a vector of algal ***(Mus musculus)were subjected to a 1-month dietary supplementation with 5%of macroalgae mix or 10%of fillet of fish previously fed with an algae-supplemented aquafeed(for comparison purposes,10%supplementation with fillet of fish standardly fed was also considered).Thereafter,mice were challenged by the genotoxicant methyl methanesulfonate(MMS),and the genetic damage was evaluated through the micronuclei ***,a wider evaluation was carried out encompassing the assessment of energy metabolism,haematological and histological parameters,as well as growth *** unequivocally protected against MMS-induced *** activity profile of hepatic lactate and isocitrate dehydrogenases promoted by the supplemented diets reflected an improved energy *** properties were not transferred via fish fed with the algae-supplemented aquafeed,though the transference of phytocomponents with beneficial properties(*** balance improvement)should not be ***,these findings highlighted the genoprotection afforded by marine macroalgae,likely promoted by desmutagenic factors,reinforcing their definition as functional *** possibility of using fish as an indirect source of algae-borne phytocomponents proved to be plausible and worthy of further investigations.

Many studies have been dedicated to the development of scaffolds for improving post-traumatic nerve regeneration. The goal of this study was to assess the effect on nerve regeneration, associating a hybrid chitosan membrane with non-differentiated human mesenchymal stem cells isolated from Wharton＇s jelly of umbilical cord, in peripheral nerve reconstruction after crush injury. Chromosome analysis on human mesenchymal stem cell line from Wharton＇s jelly was carried out and no structural alterations were found in metaphase. Chitosan membranes were previously tested in vitro, to assess their ability in supporting human mesenchymal stem cell survival, expansion, and differentiation. For the in vivo testing, Sasco Sprague adult rats were divided in 4 groups of 6 or 7 animals each： Group 1, sciatic axonotmesis injury without any other intervention （Group 1-Crush）; Group 2, the axonotmesis lesion of 3 mm was infiltrated with a suspension of 1 250 -1 500 human mesenchymal stem cells （total volume of 50 pL）（Group 2-CrushCell）; Group 3, axonotmesis lesion of 3 mm was enwrapped with a chitosan type Ill membrane covered with a monolayer of non-differentiated human mesenchymal stem cells （Group 3-CrushChitlllCell） and Group 4, axonotmesis lesion of 3 mm was enwrapped with a chitosan type III membrane （Group 4-CrushChiUll）. Motor and sensory functional recovery was evaluated throughout a healing period of 12 weeks using sciatic functional index, static sciatic index, extensor postural thrust, and withdrawal reflex latency. Stereological analysis was carded out on regenerated nerve fibers. Results showed that infiltration of human mesenchymal stem cells, or the combination of chitosan membrane enwrapment and human mesenchymal stem cell enrichment after nerve crush injury provide a slight advantage to post-traumatic nerve regeneration. Type 1 gastric neuroendocrine tumors （gNETs） are usually small lesions, restricted to mucosal and sub-mucosal layers of corpus and fundus, with low aggressive behavior, for the majority of cases. Nevertheless, some cases present aggressive behavior. The increasing incidence of gNETs brings together a new relevant problem： how to identify potentially aggressive type I gNETs. The challenging problem seems to be finding out signs or features able to predict potentially aggressive cases, allowing a tailored approach, since the involved societies dedicated to provide guidelines for management of these neoplasms apparently failed in producing staging systems able to accurately predict prognosis of these tumors. Additionally, it is also important to try to find out explanations for increasing incidence, as well as to identify potential targets aiming to reach better control of this neoplasia. Here, we discuss potential pathways implicated in aggressive behavior, as well as new strategies to improve clinical management of these tumors.

In this study,the characteristics of environmental factors associated with typhoon Kongrey were examined using radiosonde,wind-profiler,radar,and Automated Surface observing System(ASos)data in Uljin,which is located the eastern coast of *** radiosonde data were obtained from intensive observation between 1500 LST 5 to 0000 LST 7 october *** factors such as Total Precipitable Water(TPW)and Strom Relative Environmental Helicity(SREH)were selected to examine their relations to typhoon-accompanied *** TPW peak with 60.54 mm appeared at 1200 LST 6 october,which is 6 h after the peak of typhoon *** was found that the TPW variation is largely associated with the effect of water vapor supply from the typhoon with nearest proximity to Uljin at 1500 LST 6 *** SREH,which indicates mechanical instability,was 761 m2 s-2 during the period in which typhoon precipitation *** environments would provide a good condition for the development of super-cell storms,causing heavy precipitation associated with *** addition,it was found that the correlation coefficient between SREH and typhoon rainfall is 0.8(p-value=0.02).

Goat whey is an industry-discarded dairy by-product that has interesting nutritional value and a nutrient composition with important functional potential,where proteins have a high biological value and play an important role in the organism’s ***,the aim of this study was to identify,quantify,concentrate and investigate the capacity of goat whey proteins to perform different biological activities and to evaluate their acute *** proteins were quantified and identified by Bradford,Kjehdal and SDS-PAGE *** activity was performed against Listeria monocytogenes,Salmonella spp.,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli microorganisms and showed MIC ranging from 15 to 120μg mL-1,with the highest inhibition for *** *** activity was performed against human malignant melanoma cells and their proliferation inhibition was up to 66.8%within 72 h of *** highest antioxidant capacity was obtained at concentration 2 mg that showed 29.69%of inhibition of DPPH radical *** acute toxicity test was performed using Artemia franciscana larvae in which whey proteins were able to preserve larval survival throughout ***,we can conclude that goat’s whey has proteins that can play a positive effect on health,with antimicrobial activity and without *** present study highlights the great potential of goat’s whey to be developed as a safe biopreservative or as a functional ingredient in the food industry.

Noble strain of Sparassis latifolia produces high content of β-glucan

objective: To classify four new Sparassis strains(CLM1, CKM1, CKM2, and KjM1) using the internal transcribed spacer sequence and to elucidate their β-glucan content and mycelial ***: Two different microbiological media were used to determine growth rate. The β-glucan contents were analyzed using the Megazyme Mushroom and Yeast Beta-Glucan kit. To determine the genetic relationships, phylogenetic trees were constructed using ClustalX. Multiple sequence alignments were printed and shaded with the BoXSHADE 3.21 program. Results: In this study, four new Sparassis strains were isolated from the southern region of the Korea Peninsula. They were all classified into the Sparassis latifolia clade as a monophyletic group based on the internal transcribed spacer sequence. Mycelial growth rate of the CLM1 strain was highest in potato dextrose agar and potato dextrose agar larch. The β-glucan content of the CLM1 strain was highest at 29.5%(w/w). A high degree of sequence divergence was detected in the RNA polymerase second largest subunit II gene(RPB2) within Sparassis spp. tested. The putative amino acid sequences of the RPB2 had a distinct sequence. The nucleotide sequences of the RPB2's intron were also divergent among Sparassis spp., even though their nucleotide length was well conserved within Sparassis latifolia. Conclusions: These results indicate that the nucleotide sequences and the amino acid sequences of RPB2 can be used to identify individual Sparassis sp. The Sparassis strain CLM1 may be best for developing a remedy to prevent or treat cancer and other chronic diseases.

Clinical and radiographic Evaluation of Cattle Tail before and after the <i>Vaquejada</i>race

The vaquejada race is a sport with animals which has the greatest socio-economic impact in Brazil and is responsible for generating an intense cultural and economic movement. However, this activity has been the subject of questions about well-being involving the environmental and mental comfort conditions offered to equine and cattle interactions. It is necessary to perform technical evaluations of the cattle involved on the basis of scientific study to better understand the processes of sport and, with this, promote their evolution on good welfare practices in the 21st century. Therefore, to test the hypothesis that the use of the official rules of the vaquejada where cattle use a protective harness on the tail protects the cattle’s tail from injuries in this region that compromise health. Before, during and after races, a study was developed that aimed to perform a general and radiological clinical evaluation in the proximal coccygeal region in cattle that ran in a modern cattle stall. Forty male bovines were evaluated (average: 2 year-old and 420 kg). oxen were subjected to clinical and radiological examination before and after racing with official rules. Results of the clinical and radiological evaluations performed by veterinarians, did not observe clinical occurrences before and after the races in the 40 cattle evaluated. The increase in heart and respiratory rates was a reflection of temporary management stressors, as the animals returned to the feeding/rumination/interaction pattern after running in the rest pen. The radiographic findings in the tail, represented by the reduction of the intervertebral space and areas of subcutaneous radiolucency, suggest technical artifacts derived from

Synchronization of ovulation in goats using prostaglandin F2α based protocols during the breeding season
