Surface-functionalized design of blood-contacting biomaterials for preventing coagulation and promoting hemostasis

The anticoagulation and hemostatic properties of blood-contacting materials are opposite lines of research, but their realization mechanisms are inspired by each other. Contact between blood and implantable biomaterials is a classic problem in tribological research, as both antithrombotic and hemostatic materials are closely associated with this problem. Thrombus formation on the surfaces of blood-contacting biomedical devices can detrimentally affect their performance and patient life, so specific surface functionalization is required. Currently, intensive research has focused on the development of super-lubricated or super-hydrophobic coatings, as well as coatings that deliver antithrombotic drugs. In addition, hemostatic biomaterials with porous structures, biochemical substances, and strongly adhesive hydrogels can be used to achieve rapid and effective hemostasis via physical or biochemical mechanisms. This article reviews methods of preparing anticoagulant coatings on material surfaces and the current status of rapid hemostatic materials. It also summarizes fundamental concepts for the design and synthesis of anticoagulant and hemostatic materials by discussing thrombosis and hemostasis mechanisms in biomedical devices and normal organisms. Because there are relatively few reports reviewing the progress in surface-functionalized design for anticoagulation and hemostasis, it is anticipated that this review can provide a useful summary of the applications of both bio-adhesion and bio-lubrication techniques in the field of biomedical engineering.

Noble-metal free plasmonic nanomaterials for enhanced photocatalytic applications—A review

Plasmonic nanomaterial catalysis is currently at the frontier of photocatalysis,overcoming the limitations of wide bandgap semiconductors for light absorption.Its localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR)properties allow broad ultraviolet-visible-near infrared ray(UV-vis-NIR)absorption,making it an ideal material for solar energy conversion.Most plasmonic nanostructures rely on precious metals.Although noble metal plasmonic nanomaterials have proven to be one of the strategies for enhancing photocatalytic activity,their expensive cost and limitations in light absorption range have hindered their practical application.As a result,noble-metal free plasmonic nanomaterials have risen to the top of the research priority list.Therefore,this paper reviews the fundamental principles and classification of the LSPR effect of noble-metal free plasmonic nanomaterials in photocatalytic and their recent applications in hydrogen generation,carbon dioxide reduction,and pollutant degradation.Specific cases elucidate the possible working mechanism of enhanced photocatalysis by noble-metal free plasmonic nanomaterials.Finally,the challenges and future opportunities for noble-metal free plasmonic nanomaterials in energy conversion and storage are discussed and envisioned.

Topology tracking of dynamic UAV wireless networks

Wireless network is the communication foundation that supports the intelligentization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) swarm. The topology of UAV communication network is the key to understanding and analyzing the behavior of UAV swarm, thus supporting the further prediction of UAV operations. However, the UAV swarm network topology varies over time due to the high mobility and diversified mission requirements of UAVs. Therefore, it is important but challenging to research dynamic topology inference for tracking the topology changes of the UAV network,especially in non-cooperative manner. In this paper, we study the problem of inferring UAV swarm network topology based on external observations, and propose a dynamic topology inference method. First, we establish a sensing framework for acquiring the communication behavior of the target network over time. Then, we expand the multi-dimensional dynamic Hawkes process to model the communication event sequence in a dynamic wireless network. Finally, combining the sliding time window mechanism, the maximum weighted likelihood estimation is applied to inferring the network topology. Extensive simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Classification and Location Scheme Selection of Coupling Components in Integrated Electrical and Heating Systems with Renewable Energy

Integrated energy systems(IES)are under development to accommodate the widespread penetration of renewable energy into power systems.The universal utilization of coupling components makes the connection between power grids and heat grids even closer.This paper applies energy flow calculations to planning problems and explores a method for selecting coupling components in the integrated electrical and heating systems.This process is based on the analysis of energy flow distribution and the comprehensive indexes,which include operation cost and the penalty cost of wind curtailment and solar energy curtailment.Besides,a selection method of coupling components installation locations based on energy flow calculations is provided.At last,an IES with 5 electrical buses and 5 heating nodes,and a 9-bus electrical power system with a 31-node heating transmission system are chosen to study the specific application problems in detail as well as to elucidate the effectiveness of the proposed method.It turned out that the relevant coupling components and their positions can be selected according to the indexes obtained by integrated electrical-hydraulic-thermal calculation.This proposed method is conducive to the planning of integrated energy systems.

Passive Localization of Multiple Sources Using Joint RSS and AOA Measurements in Spectrum Sharing System

In spectrum sharing systems,locating mul-tiple radiation sources can efficiently find out the in-truders,which protects the shared spectrum from ma-licious jamming or other unauthorized ***-pared to single-source localization,simultaneously lo-cating multiple sources is more challenging in prac-tice since the association between measurement pa-rameters and source nodes are not known.More-over,the number of possible measurements-source as-sociations increases exponentially with the number of sensor nodes.It is crucial to discriminate which measurements correspond to the same source before localization.In this work,we propose a central-ized localization scheme to estimate the positions of multiple sources.Firstly,we develop two computa-tionally light methods to handle the unknown RSS-AOA measurements-source association problem.One method utilizes linear coordinate conversion to com-pute the minimum spatial Euclidean distance sum-mation of measurements.Another method exploits the long-short-term memory(LSTM)network to clas-sify the measurement sequences.Then,we propose a weighted least squares(WLS)approach to obtain the closed-form estimation of the positions by linearizing the non-convex localization problem.Numerical re-sults demonstrate that the proposed scheme could gain sufficient localization accuracy under adversarial sce-narios where the sources are in close proximity and the measurement noise is strong.

Jeu de mots paronomasia:a StackOverflow‑driven bug discovery approach

Locating bug code snippets(short for BugCode)has been a complex problem throughout the history of software security,mainly because the constraints that define BugCode are obscure and hard to summarize.Previously,security analysts attempted to define such constraints manually(e.g.,limiting buffer size to detect overflow),but were limited to the types of BugCode.Recent researchers address this problem by extracting constraints from program documentation,which shows the potential for API misuse.But for bugs beyond the scope of API misuse,such an approach becomes less effective since the corresponding constraints are not defined in documents,not to mention the programs without documentation In this paper,inspired by the fact that expert programmers often correct the BugCode on open forums such as StackOverflow,we design an approach to automatically extract knowledge from StackOverflow and leverage it to detect BugCode.As we all know,the contexts in StackOverflow come from ordinary developers.Their writing tends to be loosely organized and in various styles,which are more challenging to analyze than program documentation.To address the challenges,we design a custom tokenization approach to segment sentences and employ sentiment analysis to find the Controversial Sentences(CSs)that typically contain the constraints we need for code analysis.Then we use constituency parsing to extract knowledge from CSs,which helps locate Bug-Code.We evaluated our system on 41,144 comments from the questions tagged with Java and Android.The results show that our approach achieves 95.5%precision in discovering CSs.We have discovered 276 pieces of BugCode proved to be true through manual validation including an assigned CVE.89.3%of the discovered bugs remained in the current version of answers,which are unknown to users.

Boosting photocatalytic hydrogen production via interfacial engineering over a Z-scheme core/shell heterojunction

Designing high efficacy photocatalysts is a promising way to improve solar fuel production efficiency.In this work,we prepared a core/shell composite of loose ZnCr layered double hydroxide nanosheets modified CdS nanorods for efficient visible light driven photocatalytic hydrogen production.The highest hydrogen production rate achieved 425.8μmol·h^(−1) without adding any noble metal cocatalyst under the visible light stimulus,which is 22.4 times that of 1 wt.%Pt-modified CdS.The corresponding apparent quantum yield is 13.9%at 420 nm.It is revealed that the synergistic actions of the interfacial redox shuttle of Cr^(3+)/Cr^(δ+)and the interfacial electric field enable the efficient separation of photoinduced charge carriers between two components via a Z-scheme energy band configuration.Meanwhile,with the hydrogen evolution contribution of Zn^(2+),a remarkable improvement in photocatalytic performance was achieved in contrast to bare CdS.This work provides an effective methodology to construct highly efficient and economically viable photocatalysts for solar H_(2)production and mechanistic study.

Herbal compatibility of Traditional Chinese Medical formulas for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome

OBJECTIVE:Because herbal compatibility is one of the most important reasons why Traditional Chinese Medcine(TCM) formulas are effective for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS),our study aimed to determine the compatibility of herbs based on published AIDS clinical research in Chinese periodicals.To achieve this aim,we designed a new data-mining algorithm according to TCM data characteristics.METHODS:We found 25 clinical AIDS studies,all using Chinese herbs for treatment,in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Database System,and information on diagnosis and treatment was extracted.To find out herbal compatibility,especially the formulae for herbal combinations,we proposed an improved association rule algorithm based on the frequency of combinations.In this algorithm,all the compatibility relationships were displayed in a tree structure,by which the relationship between formulas and their derivation could be clearly inferred.RESULTS:Data analysis showed that approximately 100 herbs have been used for treating AIDS.Based on the whole herb compatibility tree,we calculated a basic formula for AIDS:Huang Qi combined with Ren Shen,Fu ling,Bai Zhu,Bai Zhu,Dang Gui,and Bai Shao.This formula,deriving from most of clinical prescriptions,and was chosed by most of clinicians for AIDS treatment.From data mining we found that Qi replenishment and detoxification were the main treatment principles,which coincided with the AIDS pathological mechanism in which immune function is destroyed by human immunodeficiency virus(HIV).CONCLUSIONS:Our data-mining results suggest that the core TCM treatment of AIDS is replenishing Qi and detoxification,by which AIDS patients' immune system may be enhanced.Compatibility of Huang Qi with some frequently-used herbs have shown real efficacy in clinical practice,which warrants pharmacological research in the future.

通过不同的化学方法对农业副产物麦壳进行改性,以制得廉价的生物吸附剂,并分别研究了它们对孔雀绿的吸附性能。结果表明,天然麦壳对孔雀绿有一定的吸附量,经化学修饰后对孔雀绿的吸附量有不同程度的提高,其中,经硝酸酸化后的麦壳对孔雀绿的吸附效果最好。通过研究硝酸改性麦壳吸附孔雀绿条件的影响发现,吸附40min达到平衡;随初始浓度增加,吸附量增大;溶液在中性或碱性范围内,吸附量较高;吸附符合Langmuir和Freundlich等温模型,吸附动力学过程可以用准二级动力学方程来较好地拟合。因此,硝酸改性麦壳可以用于有效去除水体中的孔雀绿。

The inconsistency of documentation:a study of online C standard library documents

The C standard libraries are basic function libraries standardized by the C language.Programmers usually refer to their APl documentation provided by third-party websites.Unfortunately,these documents are not necessarily complete or accurate,especially for constraint sentences of APl usage,which are called Security Specifications(SSs).SS issues can prevent programmers from following obligatory constraints,which results in APl misuse vulnerabilities.Previous work studying SS issues could only find certain types of inaccurate SSs through checking the compliance between APl usage and existing SSs.Therefore,we propose a novel approach SSeeker for quickly discovering missing and inaccurate SSs through the inconsistency of semantically similar SSs.More specifically,SSeeker first completes broken sentences and discovers SSs from them by judging their constraint sentiment.Then SSeeker puts semantically similar SSs from different sources into a group,which can be used to discover missing or inaccurate SSs.With the help of SSeeker,we investigated 4 popular online third-party C standard library documents,studied their conformity with the C99 standard,analyzed their APls and SSs,and discovered 92 prototype issues,15 web page issues,and 96 SS issues.
