Although many material designs or strategic methods have been proposed for treating oil spills and oily wastewater,the complex oily state,dealing with the harsh operating conditions of oil–water separation(such as the recovery of viscous spilled crude oil,bacteria-containing oily wastewater,and removal of spilled oil under fire),and the autorecycling of oil and absorption materials remain a great *** work proposed an ingenious design strategy of“several birds with one stone”to prepare p H/thermoresponsive flame-retardant/photothermal bactericidal P-Fe_(3)O_(4)-polydopamine(PDA)@melamine–formaldehyde(MF)*** design makes the foams remarkably effective in the recovery of spilled viscous crude oil as well as in the separation of bacteria-containing oily emulsions,particularly for instant fire extinguishing by magnetically controlled oil absorption as well as for fire *** photothermal effect and p H response induce a change in the surface wettability of the foams,facilitating excellent autoadsorption/desorption of the spilled *** photothermal bactericidal activity and fouling resistance of the foam are beneficial to the separation of bacteria-containing oily *** flame-retardant properties and maneuverable magnetic control enable the foam to rapidly recover the spilled oil in a large range of fires,extinguish fires instantly,and facilitate early fire *** proposed strategy is expected to inspire further research on treating oil spills under complex conditions.

Microstructural Evolution and Performance of In-situ Ag-Ni Composite after Solidification under Electromagnetic Stirring and Deformation

The effect of electromagnetic stirring（EMS）on microstructure and performance of Ag-8 mass%Ni composite was investigated under both solidified and deformed *** EMS,the Ag matrix formed short,thick dendrites in the ingot;whereas with EMS,dendrites were long and *** phase mainly formed particles or ribbons,distributed along boundaries between dendrite *** drawing of the solidified Ag-Ni ingots,both with and without EMS,produced high strength in-situ metal-matrix composite（MMC）consisting of Ag matrix reinforced by Ni *** improved the ductility of the composite,consequently enhancing its drawability and *** also increased the electrical conductivity in both solidified ingots and deformed in-situ composite *** both cases,hardness and tensile strength remained high.A model based on a combination of the modified linear rule of mixtures and the Hall-Petch relationship was used to rationalize the tensile strength and hardness with respect to its fabrication parameters and the microstructure of Ag-Ni in-situ composite.

Classification of wintertime large-scale tilted ridges over the Eurasian continent and their influences on surface air temperature

This study investigates the major patterns of large-scale tilted ridges(LSTRS)over the Eurasian continent and their connections with large-scale surface air temperature during boreal winter.A total number of 134 LSTR events with zonal extent exceeding 90°of longitude on the peak day are *** self-organizing map(SOM),the LSTRs are classified into five clusters that are characterized by different spatial distributions and *** leading two clusters are closely associated with extensive and persistent cold events over different *** the first cluster,LSTRs extend from the Ural Mountains to Northeast Asia and are favorable for the amplification and southeastward extension of the Siberian ***,this cluster is closely associated with the occurrence of extensive and persistent cold events in *** comparison with the first cluster,the LSTRs of second group are situated to the west,with starting points from the Kola Peninsula,and cause extensive and persistent cold events over Eastern Europe,central Asia,and central *** results suggest that the vertical coupling between LSTRs and the corresponding anomalous sea level pressure is crucial for the persistent cold temperature events associated with the leading two SOM clusters.

Reinforcing effect of graphene on the mechanical properties of Al2O3/TiC ceramics

Multilayer graphene(MLG)-reinforced Al_2O_3/TiC ceramics were fabricated through hot pressing sintering, and the reinforcing effect of MLG on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites was investigated by experiment and simulation. The simulation of dynamic crack initiation and propagation was investigated based on the cohesive zone method. The results show that the composite added with 0.2 wt% MLG has excellent flexural strength and high fracture toughness. The major reinforcing mechanisms are the synergistic effect by strong and weak bonding interfaces, MLG pull-out, and grain refinement resulting from the addition of MLG. In addition, the aggravating of crack deflection, branching, blunting, and bridging have indispensable contribution to the improvement of the as-designed materials.

To the Editor:Innate lymphoid cells(ILCs)are a heterogeneous population of lymphocytes that lack specific antigen receptors and yet produce effective cytokines to match the T helper cell subsets.[1]For the past decade,the discovery of these cells and research on this topic have revealed that ILCs are tissue resident cells that have multiple immune roles,such as regulating tissue inflammation,tissue remodeling and metabolic homeostasis,by the effector functions of their subsets and are involved in diseases such as asthma,allergic rhinitis,inflammatory bowel disease,and cancer.

Hot Deformation Behaviors in Ti-6Al-4V/(TiB+TiC)Composites

Thermal compression testing was investigated using the Gleeble 3800 thermal simulator,and thermal deformation behavior of particle-reinforced titanium matrix composites(TMCs)was studied under deformation temperatures of 750-900°C,strain rates of 0.001-1 s^(-1),and experimental deformation of 60%.According to obtained flow stress curves,the hot deformation characteristics were *** on the Arrhenius hyperbolic sinusoidal model,the constitutive equation at high temperature was *** on the theory of dynamic material models,a hot processing map of TMCs at high temperature was established,and the peak region of power dissipation rate and the instability region in the hot processing map were both *** the same time,the corresponding microstructures in the peak power dissipation rate and rheological instability regions were *** results showed that flow stress decreased with increasing deformation temperature and increased with increasing strain *** thermal deformation activation energy of titanium matrix composites was 301.8 kJ/*** Ti-6Al-4V/(TiB+TiC)composites possessed only one instability zone under high-temperature compression at a strain of 0.5,with corresponding temperatures at 750-840°C and strain rates at 0.1-1 s^(-1).The optimal thermal deformation parameters included corresponding temperatures of 830-880°C and strain rates of 0.001-0.05 s^(-1).The microstructures corresponding to optimal hot working parameters in processing maps were more homogeneous than the microstructures in the instability zone,including the distribution uniformity of reinforcement and the degree of dynamic recrystallization,and no instability phenomena including abnormal grain growth,microcracks or intensive fracture of reinforcements were found,indicating that the hot processing map had a positive guiding effect on the option of desirable material thermal-working parameters.

Electrochemical co-reduction of Y(Ⅲ)and Al(Ⅲ)in a fluoride molten salt system and electrolytic preparation of Y-Al intermediate alloys

In this study,a molten salt co-reduction method was proposed for preparing Y-Al intermediate alloys and the electrochemical co-reduction behaviors of Y(Ⅲ)and Al(Ⅲ)and the reaction mechanism of intermetallic compound formation were investigated by transient electrochemical *** results show that the reduction of Y(Ⅲ)at the Mo electrode is a reversible electrochemical process with a single-step transfer of three electrons,which is controlled by the mass transfer *** diffusion coefficient of Y(Ⅲ)in the fluoride salt at a temperature of 1323 K is 5.0238×10^(-3)cm^(2)/***,the thermodynamic properties associated with the formation of Y-Al intermetallic compounds were estimated using a steady-state electrochemical method.Y-Al intermediate alloy containing 92 wt%yttrium was prepared by constant current electrolysis at 1323 K in the LiF-YF_(3)-AIF_(3)-Y_(2)O_(3)(6 wt%)-Al_(2)O_(3)(1 wt%)system at a cathodic current density of 8 A/cm^(2)for 2 *** Y-Al intermediate alloy is mainly composed ofα-Y2Al and Y *** development and application of this innovative technology have solved major technical problems,such as a long production process,high energy consumption,and serious segregation of alloy elements at this stage.

Traumatic injuries in the central nervous system,such as traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury,are associated with tissue inflammation and the infiltration of immune cells,which simultaneously affect the self-renewal and differentiation of neural stem *** r,the tissue repair process instigated by endogenous neural stem cells is incapable of restoring central nervous system injuries without external ***,resident/peripheral immune cells have been demonstrated to exert significant effects on neural stem ***,the resto ration of traumatic injuries in the central nervous system by the immune intervention in neural stem cells represents a potential therapeutic *** this review,we discuss the roles and possible mechanisms of immune cells on the selfrenewal and differentiation of neural stem cells along with the prognosis of central nervous system injuries based on immune ***,we discuss remaining research challenges that need to be considered in the *** elucidation of these challenges will fa cilitate the successful application of neural stem cells in central nervous system injuries.
